Is there any obvious defect or issue with this diamond based on the specs?

Just work with him and not ask PS-ers?
That is not a nice thing to say after all the time people put in for free.

The estimated gia cut grade for your old stone is vg.
Using the PS search engine it looks like prices are all over the place and has zombie listings.
I would estimate the internet retail value if everything is as graded at around 8k.
A 6k offer is not horrible in my opinion.

Dear Freddyboston, I did not accurately represent what happened with the CVD diamond. I found that diamond. I don’t remember from where, but I found it, and I sent the specs to Dan, who said it looked good. I cannot remember if I sent him an image though. I then asked you wonderful folks about it and you all told me it wasn’t good, and I let him know that, so that was the end of that. I subsequently moved out the other diamond that I ended up with, which arrived to Dan before the CVD one, which was stuck in customs, according to Dan. I’m REALLY eager to hear about selling my 1.5 carat for $6000 possibly, but I don’t know how to get the proportion diagram. Can anybody help me? Thank you!!

Dear Karl K, I hoped I’d been very clear about how much I appreciate everybody’s help in this process. If I’ve somehow not expressed my gratitude adequately, please accept my apologies. I simply meant that since Dan did help me so much and really came through for me, maybe this is something simple that he could just handle for me and I don’t have to pester the Pricescope community. Maybe I don’t have to look at diamond after diamond after diamond. I simply met that. Maybe the best course of action here is for me to just tell Dan that I’d like a nice 1-carat diamond and see what he comes back with.

If GIA isn't showing the proportions diagram and/or the clarity plot on the web version, then there's nothing that we can do - you'll need to contact GIA and inquire if they still have an archive version of your diamond's grading report that shows the graphicals that you're interested in obtaining.
To get an accurate handle on trade-in pricing for your diamond, I suggest taking it to at least three separate jewelers and getting written offers...or take it to a GIA graduate appraiser.

PS - I've already found MANY great 1.00-1.1x carat options for $350 and less...

Thank you, DejaWiz! It’s good to know that there are a lot of great 1-carat options for less than $350.

My pleasure - whenever you're ready to move forward with your mom's 1 carat, just holler and I'll post them so that you can ask CD about them.

Thank you so much! And I won’t run the risk of the prices going up like it did with my 2 carat?

Unknown...it's the end of year holiday buying rush, so prices are all over the place from day to day.
Probably best to give the whole list of grading reports and pricing to your jeweler so he has a much better chance of securing one ASAP at the best possible price.

Or just buy one that is posted right away… this could be very simple.

Exactly. Tag folks and say you're 0nline and ready to buy and you'll get options. Buy one immediately

Do you think it would be a wise move to sell my 1.5 carat for $6000? I’m of the opinion that “standard” engagement ring-sized natural diamonds will fall drastically in price, and I don’t want to wait too long on this offer, assuming it works out. As you’ve been so helpful, Karl K, I appreciate and value your input. Thank you.

Your guess is as good as mine as to what mined prices are going to do.
There are so many variables its impossible for me to make a prediction I am comfortable with making.

I apologize already because I know I’m not posting my questions as I’m supposed to, but I’m just ignorant of this process, so please excuse me. I am so in love with my 2.13 carat D-color VVS 2 GIA EX/EX, AGA triple-0 diamond that I’m already thinking about the next one! And though I won’t necessarily want this next diamond to be as perfect as the one you wonderful Pricescopers helped me find, especially DejaWiz, I do want to choose a nice, attractive diamond I think I have a better idea of what to look for. In the attached photo, one of of the arrows on the left side appears to be blue. Would this be striation?I’d like to better understand what to look for as far as negative qualities so that I don’t have to pester all if you wonderful people every time I stumble across a diamond. Thank you so much!IMG_0075.jpeg

No blue color is just reflections. Striations show up in the facets that are not reflecting light back to the eye. Like very fine stripes. I don't see any in this image but maybe others do.

Except in very bad cases a spin video is needed not static images to judge crystal quality.

I can see some CVD graining in the zoomed image...please either have a highly experienced jeweler assess this diamond or pass on it and keep looking for one that leaves less doubt about the diamond crystal quality. :)

Are you seeing it around 6 o'clock right of the arrow head?

Mostly, yes, but there are many areas that I can see it.

I’m not sure how some of those marks are distinguishable from pixilation of a low quality image though. Or dust. Or grease. I suppose that’s why moving images are important.

Agreed - and I'm about 85% sure that the 360 rotational will show moderate CVD graining.
