Is there still supposed to be a ban on gems from Burma (Myanmar)

Just curios. Seems there are still plenty of stones around from there. But I remember a couple years ago hearing about a ban by the us government.

There is a US ban on importing stones from Burma (Myanmar). But most stones of Burmese origin find their way to Thailand. There''s no ban on stones imported from Thailand.

The ban on Burmese gems was modified slightly a while ago. Now anything substantially processed outside Burma (such as cutting, treatment, etc.) is a permitted import. For more on the Burmese embargo pro and con, see:
