Is This A Men’s Ring?

Struggling to find a deco or edwardian ring for a man. I’ve never seen a ring like this. All sapphires are synthetic, 18k white gold. I would replace the center sapphire with a transition cut diamond if possible, or OEC/OMC

When do you think this was made?

Is it hideous or kinda awesome?IMG_9772.jpegIMG_9775.jpegIMG_9774.jpegIMG_9778.jpegIMG_9773.jpeg

Well, I do like the bones of the ring -- I definitely think it could be termed a man's ring or a unisex ring - I do not care for the yellow stone which is the only hideous part as far as I'm concerned :)

However, it looks like they just chopped off the original prongs when they stuck the yellow stone in :(

So, when you switch out the center stone you'll have to decide if you want vintage-style replacement prongs built up -- not sure how tricky or expensive it may be, do you have an experienced bench person? -- or I guess you can stick with a bezel (?) like it seems to be now (?) but maybe have your bench person do a better job rehabbing the area.

Is there a return period? Can you buy it and show it to your bench person for their input?

I don't have anyone I'm working with yet. This is just an idea in my head at this point. My bigger concern is date of origin. My wife's wedding ring is early 20th century. I just have no idea when this was made. It has deco elements, but that doesn't mean much with all the reproductions out there.

I don't know a lot about mounting, but I like how the yellow stone is set... flush? So I'd stick with a bezel?

Thank you so much for your feedback!

i like it
i would wear it

The yellow stone is bead set into the recess.

In addition to "when was it made" another good question: would you put a 1.8ish carat diamond in this setting?

The ring has a masculine look IMHO, and I would consider it as a gentleman's ring

DK :))

I like it! Unisex style for sure

That looks like it's from the same era as your wife's ring. It looks like a man's ring, a very nice one. The yellow stone is probably a replacement. What would make me hesitate is the metal--18k white gold will probably have a yellowish tings and won't wear as well as platinum, especially since it's not new to begin with. But that might just be my prejudice. I dislike white gold and love platinum.

I've scoured the internet. I can't find a masculine platinum ring anywhere!!

depends what you thinks is masculine.
I think tank rings are masculine and often in platinum

Oh sorry I should've been more specific. I mean platinum men's rings from the early 20th century

what do you consider early ? Tank rings are from the 40s.

Overpriced

My favorite out of the ones you shared was $22k of course! Ha!! It's highly likely that a platinum ring is out of my budget. The one I shared is $500 ha!

Really appreciate that you looked for me though, thank you!

If you tell us what you like, we will keep an eye out for you.

Tell us:
Material/metal, price range, style, price, size ish (might have to be sized).

$5-$6 I guess. No yellow gold. I like engraving and/or filigree. I’d like early 20th century or a revival piece that looks early 20th. I want a square face with a round stone or a square stone.

The ring in this thread is $500 and I hoped to put a low quality older diamond in there for $5-$6. Maybe 1.8ct.

So I’m open to a sapphire (etc) ring and swapping in a diamond. I like this 2ctish bloodstone for example, just for the setting. But someone told me a diamond wouldn’t really work in this ring. But I don’t even know if this band, or the other one, are authentic. I can’t really tell if something is a cheap knockoff unfortunately

Howzat go? "Every zoo is a petting zoo if you're brave enough." Men's rings are like that :cool2:

No, I think it's a fine man's ring. And the line is getting blurrier and blurrier as "A-list" men wear chains and brooches to the Oscars, etc.

Center stone could be heard to swap out if it's a bezel so I would be inclined to leave it alone. (I zoomed in on that first ring and still can't tell.)

I can find anything- I will keep looking with your criteria in mind.

This is an impractical ring to swap stones out for.
Are you strictly looking for a white diamond center or would you take a colored stone or colored diamond?
What size stone in mm do you hope to get? What’s the smallest you’d like ?

If I get the ring I started this post with, the synthetic sapphire is approximately 1.8ct. 1.5 - 2.5 I guess is the range I’m looking at.

I know it’s not possible, but that bloodstone ring would so cool with an asscher!!

One guy told me finding the right ring can take years. So I need to be patient

Niel is on fire! That French platinum, the 3rd one, OMG.

Also Look to France for great big ring designs. Tank rings etc. eBay France. Frequently 18k gold.

If you don't need an actual antique, just an antique style, you might consider having a ring custom made. That way you could have exactly what you want.

When you say $5-$6, do you actually mean five or six DOLLARS? Or are you talking about five or six HUNDRED dollars, or five or six THOUSAND dollars (or something else)?

My thought too. FYI to OP David Klass Jewelry does replica styles AMAZINGLY. With perfect prongwork, engraving, miligrain, etc.

Some of our favs that we've found over the last few weeks:

Perfect in every way except diamond is too small -

Same thing here:

This is my wife's favorite, we like the idea of asscher or radiant or cushion set like this:

This is really cool, but the stone is 3 carats and therefore the replacement diamond would be out of budget:

Hey look at this. Different ring, but gaps under the gem. Just like the original ring I posted. Maybe this really was a thing they did back then!!Screenshot 2025-04-02 153307.pngScreenshot 2025-04-02 153317.png

Oh and here's a couple more, interesting!
