I BOUGHT THIS STONE ON EBAY A WHILE AGO.
IT WAS SOLD TO ME AS A GENUINE SAPPHIRE.
THE PICTURE ISN`T SO GOOD,BUT IT IS REAL BEUATY.
IT MEASURES 12,5X9,5 MM AND HEIGHT 6,5.
EMERALD CUT.

FROM BURMA

HOW CAN I TEST THIS ?

Try to find curved lignes in the stone body. It is possible that you have a flame fusion "Verneuil" synthetic sapphire.

Hello

Great looking stone!

Its one of the biggest issues our sapphire (and other gemstones) industry faces. There is no easy way I know to ensure
a stone is geniune short of spending hundreds on tests. The stated origon of most sapphire means little as by the time a reseller gets the stone its often passed through several sets of hand with each telling the next what they want to hear.

Good luck with your sapphire and whatever the truth it looks great!

If you paid under $10000 for it then its most likely synthetic.

upon further reflection...
For that size it has to be well over 6ct and that blue and clean 10k sounds low even for a heated sapphire.

Do you mind telling us what you paid for the stone??

The picture shows some very nice blue... both on the stone and the paper underneath. Either it was blue paper and this is a fantastic find, or the picture was enhanced (rather crudly so) and the onbject on top is a darkish slightly grayish prism after all.

You know what it looks like.

Anyway, an appraiser or a jeweler could tell you what the thing is. From a picture this is not feasible.

The situation (Ebay sale, not great quality picture and no certification for a potentially high ticket item...) does not sound reassuring.

It comes from Burma. Is that a common color for a Burma stone ?

It comes almost directly from the mine. The ebay seller that it was bought from has only positive feedback and I have contacted several of his earlier buyers and they are very satisfied and tells me that they are genuine.

Actually I didnt buy it on ebay , but direct from the seller.
He sells these size sapphires for 12-1600 dollars on ebay, and no complaints yet that they are syntetic. I have writen with him alot and he assures me that it is genuine, and all the stones he sells is

Take it to an appraiser who knows gemstones.
Thats the only way to tell for sure.
The price sounds real low.

I agree with Storm. It sounds very suspicious. With those measurements, that sapphire probably weighs in the neighborhood of 8 carats. Nobody is going to sell 8 carat natural Burma stones of that color for $1200 to $1600.

I would have it checked for authenticity immediately.

This piece is extremely suspicious at this price. It requires identification by a professional gemologist. I recommend you send it to my lab for testing, which is:
