The diamond only has an appraisal by someone who seems be a legitimate appraiser. The appraiser is listed as a GIA graduate gemologist.

Anyways here are the specs.

Cut= Round Brilliant Cut
Weight= 1.48 carat
Clarity= VVS1
Color= H
Measurements= 7.22- 7.36x4.42mm
Depth= 60.5%
Table= 62.8%
Girdle= Thin to Medium
Polish= Very Good
Symmetry= Very Good
Fluorescence = none

OK I think it all seems pretty good however I know little when it comes to depth, table, and the exact measurements of the diamond. What I need to know is if you think that the depth, table and over all measurements are normal for this diamond. I tried to use the tool but I didn''t know crown and angle.

Also what would you approximate the value of the diamond at.

Thanks guys

Send it to an independent appraiser with SARIN scan to get the crown and pavilion angles.

You could just get a idealscope online, around $25 and look at it's performance. But the table is a little large for it to be classified as an ideal cut.

you need a sarin scan. why not look for a stone with GIA or AGS report?

Welcome!

Unless you particularly like this diamond and want to investigate further, I would look for some with a smaller table and of known cut quality ( AGS0 or GIA some Excellent) in order to see if this diamond appeals to you enough to be worth pursuing....

However there is too much variance with the diameter to make getting further info worthwhile IMO, so I would pass personally unless you really want to know more. You don't necessarily need the supertight diameters of the top make cut in order to have a well cut diamond, but there is too much variance for me in this case, however it is your call.

It is also very difficult to place a value on the diamond without a full lab grading report.

Thanks for the advice, Well the seller wants around $7000 for the diamond and possibly will go lower. Do you think that is a good enough deal on the price that I should keep looking into this or are the dimensions so far off that it is probably of poor quality.

The estimated replacement value given by the appraiser was $16500.

Also the appraiser seems to grade almost exactly to GIA specs.

Is the diamond with an online vendor, online auction such as Ebay or store jeweller? This can influence price, typically store jewellers can be more expensive than online sellers, however this price looks very low to me....

As for the estimated retail value, this is inflated which is quite common due to the ' feelgood' factor for the purchaser and doesn't accurately reflect the true value of a diamond. If you wanted a suitable figure to use for insurance then an independant appraiser could provide that for you. A GIA GG may not necessarily have the expertise or training to appraise, see more here - https://www.pricescope.com/appraiser.asp and for the credentials to look for.

With the diamond's proportions, the table is larger than many we see here, we don't have the angles which are crucial to judge light return and performance and the diameter variance is larger than I personally prefer. The info we have indicates that this diamond isn't cut to the tightest standards and could be of mediocre to poor cut quality, but we need the angles to make an educated judgement. If you like the diamond and have seen it in person, then I would suggest looking at some AGS0 cut grade or Hearts on Fire branded cut in person to see how this diamond stacks up. The diamonds I mentioned should be of known cut quality, that way you can get an idea of how this one actually compares, and if you like the larger tabled look.

Also you could buy an Idealscope if this diamond is with a store jeweller and check it out that way.
