Jannpaul round 10 vs decagon 10? Which one would you prefer + why? Previously settled on the decagon with two options and now I’m doubting everything!

Hello dear diamond experts and enthusiasts! I’m hoping I could get some valuable insight from you.

As a newbie to this topic I’ve started off far from where I am now, wandered around stopping by at Ada and Whiteflash before deciding upon a Jannpaul lab decagon 10 h&a. As a perfectionist who is also very indecisive, I was stuck between these two options (and I still am!) before I further complicated things for myself and started wondering if I should go with a round 10:

A lousy video that lost a ton of quality while downloading and reuploading, with the 66 on top and the 84 at the bottom:

Would you go with the decagon, or the round? If decagon, which of these two you’d prefer?

They're both amazing. JP does such fine work.
Personally, I'd go with a decagon, but I like having things that other people don't have. Between the 84 and the 66, I'd let price choose bc I wouldn't be able to see a difference.

I'm so excited for your JP ring. Please post photos when you're done!!

Hello, ceci - these are both great looking Decagons!
My eyes are drawn more to this one, especially when looking at the fire videos.

My daughter is looking at these. She's obsessed. May I ask a ballpark price range on a one carat decagon ring from JP? What about a 2 carat? Apologies if my question is not permitted. I just don't want my daughter to get overly attached to JP if it's out of budget. AI told me roughly $10k for the entire ring, at about 2 carat. Thank you so so much! And I'd love to hear all about your experience with JP

If you haven't seen it yet OP, I maintain an ongoing list of all the JannPaul GCAL certificates I could find. I have the decagon, octagon, and round novas on there in case you were interested in the nova series!

Personally, I'm a decagon 10 H&A kind of girl. I have a ton of attachment to it since it's their flagship diamond cut and it's how I discovered JannPaul back in 2020, before anyone on reddit or Pricescope even posted about them. Understanding the R&D and technicalities in their FAQ video make me appreciate it all the more.

I also like that the decagon shape is something different. It's not obvious unless you look at it more than a second, but when you do, you can tell it's not "just" a round.

Purely based on visual effect, I also like the decagon 10 H&A more than the round 10 H&A. I've looked at multiple of them side by side and I consistently think that the decagon is slightly more brilliant (returning white light) and has more fire and scintillation (especially when looking at the bottom half of the stone in GCAL fire videos.) If I had to put a number on it, I think that the decagon is 5% more brilliant and 10% more sparkly. But that's just to my (biased) eyes. I'm also not a fan of the nova cut design, but lots of people are. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all that! As someone who has scoured hundreds of GCAL listings, I can assure you that the decagon 10 H&A, round 10 H&A, and octagon nova are their top three most popular diamonds and seem to be equally popular compared against each other.

Ultimately, you really can't go wrong with any of JannPaul's stones. (:

I requested an HPHT 1.80 - 1.89 carat D-E VVS1-VVS2 decagon 10 H&A diamond which was quoted at $5k USD. With a platinum band and 16 decagon 10 H&A melee lab diamonds, my size 3.5 ring would have a total cost of $7k USD, which is inclusive of the 5.5% duty I'd pay here in the U.S.

I recall that people have been able to buy JannPaul diamonds loose without the setting, including melee diamonds. Having the final ring made local to you or by someone like David Klass might have more savings.

JannPaul CVD diamonds are significantly cheaper than their HPHT diamonds. I remember someone got a 4 carat decagon nova and the CVD price was over 50% cheaper than the HPHT option. So while I do not know what CVD diamonds in that size range cost, I encourage you to reach out to them! They're very transparent with pricing. People commonly have issues with JannPaul responding by email, so if you haven't already, definitely download WhatsApp and text them at +65 9021 9891.

Oh interesting!! Ok I googled it, and hpht takes all the blue out or something? Saving that much money sounds nice, but can I see the "bad stuff" in the CVD diamond with the naked eye. I'll check their youtube page again and see if I can figure out all the CVD stuff

JannPaul HPHT diamonds are guaranteed free of blue nuance and metallic inclusions and JannPaul CVD diamonds are guaranteed free of brown hue and visible striation issues! So whichever one you go with, you definitely won't be disappointed.

If you want a crash course on all the essential points to buying a ring (but can be adapted to other jewelry you're considering for your daughter,) I highly recommend reading my post on reddit here.
