Jared Setting Lookalike?

Hi All,

I am searching for a Jared setting lookalike (see link: http://design.jared-diamonds.com/Item/R999560149700/sc/). While I love this setting, I think I would rather buy from the same online vendor where I purchase my diamond. I am looking at 3/4 carat, F color, VS1 clarity, and excellent cut. I understand that there are other criteria, but I honestly don't know enough to judge. My boyfriend and I originally set a budget of $3000 for the ring (diamond included), but he said he would pay up to $5000 so that I can get the ring I really "love." I think, ideally, we'd like to shoot for a price in between this range. I've seen some reasonably priced diamonds with the above criteria from James Allen, and some slightly more expensive (but still reasonable) diamonds from Whiteflash. Any other recommendations for vendors? Is there a decent lookalike for the setting, which is really important to me? I found one with side sapphires from James Allen, but it has prongs rather than channel set sapphires. Plus, I like the addition of the couple extra diamonds on the band. Very classy and modern, in my opinion!

Any advice is much appreciated!!

Sincerely,

A Diamond Novice

Or would it be better to buy the diamond online and then go to a local jeweler and have the setting custom made? I've just read horror stories about Jared on this forum, so am uncertain about getting the setting from them. Anyone whose bought a diamond online and purchased a setting at a B&M store have an opinion? How high do setting costs tend to be when you do this?

I think it's important you buy a ring you really love, regardless of where it is from. I have some pieces of jewelry from Jared's and I have absolutely no complaints about them or their service.

Good to hear! I definitely want to get the setting I really love, rather than settling for something that I feel is just okay. My boyfriend and I were happy with the service at Jared's when we tried on rings, but we both agreed that the price of the loose diamonds were high, especially compared to online prices (makes sense, of course, considering the extra costs of running a B&M store). When the saleslady gave us a price of $3900-$4200 for a 3/4 carat (Leo and then later a Tolkowsky cut) diamond with LOWER color and clarity than I mentioned in my previous post, we were both flabbergasted. We didn't know that they would be so much!!!

Anyone else have thoughts or suggestions? I forgot to mention in my original post that we are getting a princess cut diamond for the centerpiece. I've looked at other settings, but I either don't like them or the price is higher than the Jared's setting I posted (not what I'm going for at this point!). I definitely want a setting with side sapphires, and we determined that a princess cut is best since prices tend to be lower than for similar quality round diamonds (plus, I do like the princess cut).

Just trying to be as informed as possible! Thanks to all!! :wavey:

Can you go to a different Jareds?

Tell them you already have the center stone. And then ask them about that setting?

You can order the setting with the right sized head. And then send it to the vendor you are buying the center from, and then they can set it in the setting for you.

Here's what I found:

I don't know anything about this site, but the setting is pretty: https://www.wherethediamondsare.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=app.product&pid=4348&cyo=0 But at the price they are offering. It might be worth some research into both the jeweler (Charleston Alexander) and the designer of the setting (Sabet).

Lovely but the price is WAY high, you might want to ask if they can do it in 14kt white gold to take the price down? http://www.brilliantearth.com/custom-rings/Diamond-and-Sapphire-Princess-Trio-with-Channel-Set-Band-150/

Will Jared set the diamond if you buy the diamond online and the setting through them? Maybe ask them and see so you can get the exact setting you love.

That said, I've also had bad experiences with Jared. I found they are very anti-online shopping so if you do talk to them, keep that in mind and don't let them influence your decision. When I went in there one time, they also did the same as you as in showing a lower color/clarity stone that was more expensive...and the diamond was an I1! But, in talking to them, they did say they'd set outside stones, so maybe they can do so for you.

Thanks, Gypsy! The Gabriel and Co setting is very pretty. Is it better to have the diamond higher then? You mentioned something about the Jared setting being "blocky." I definitely want the diamond to sparkle, although .8 might be too big for me. I'm used to pretty simple jewelry, so 3/4 already feels big. We thought about a .5 carat, but it seemed like the bigger size just fit better with this particular setting. My finger size, for a little reference, is 5.5.

MC, thanks too for posting your experience with Jared. That's my concern as well. I just hate to pay the same or more for a lower quality diamond, especially as I am one of those girls who will never ever upgrade--too sentimental.

.8 to .75 isn't a big difference. Heck with princesses .7 to .8 isn't a big difference, so don't worry. That's just a really nice stone at a really good price. It's got really nice light return and faceting, that's why I posted it for you.

Makes sense! I've never been a numbers person. Not sure why I was thinking it was such a big difference. Thanks again for all of your advice! You've given me a lot to think about. Sadly, that particular diamond will probably be gone by the time he decides to get the ring. We are shopping early now so he knows what I want, and then when he does get the ring it will still be kind of a surprise.

Send him this link and tell him to come on here and let us pick the princess for him. That way we can make sure you get exactly the right ring with the best quality we can find.
