I had been using the Jewel Jet for the past 6 years, and it was going bad. Just picked up the Sharper Image Steam Cleaner, wont mention price but got it at TJ Maxx for a steal. The force of the steam is twice that of the Jewel Jet. Comes with tweezers which are just fair with no place to store like the JJ has in the back slot. Overall, if you are looking for a steam cleaner, I recommend this one over the Jewel Jet, because of price and performance. I was surprised it was still available, given SI is out of business.

Awesome! I'll have to go check them out today. I have a JJ and it's terrible. Hardly used because it takes so long to heat up, only gives a couple shots of steam at a time and the steam is too watery. thanks for the info!

eta: sorry, this drives me nuts everytime I see your screen name. Is it a slight change in spelling after a small city or something else totally different?

the cleaner does take about 3 minutes for the steam to be ready, then the light turns blue, it also has a LED near the steam nozzle to help you see the item while cleaning, however, the steam is so intense, it drowns out the light.

My screen name is totally made up, no reference to a small city or something else.

Also for anyone going to store I mentioned, it takes a little digging around in the store. I asked the jewelry dept person for the SI steam cleaner and she said they did not sell them in the store, so look around at the gadgets and small appliance / electric area. The store I bought mine from was in Westchester County, NY, so if you go, be prepared to search, but it is worth it. (They had 2 in stock, I bought one, so one is left for some lucky person).

I have to say, I bought the jewel jet this week after reading all the raves about it.... and maybe it's just me- but I think y ultra sonic cleaners clean just a well, with less hassle. It could be that I am not used to using a steamer yet so it's still new to me.

I had the Jewel Jet and was dissapointed with it, in my opinion, the SI is a stronger unit (my opinion)

Don't get me wrong, it definitely gets my rings clean, but in comparison to my US I dont know that its much cleaner... and definitely more work. However, I bought an estate diamond ring loaded with gunk :o and I dropped it into the container that comes with the JJ and dropped in the fizzle tablets and boy o boy. that gunk was gone after the soak. I think since I clean my rings every 2 days in US it's hard for me to see a drastic difference between the JJ and the US.

How funny, I actually just bought the SI cleaner yesterday at TJ Maxx as well! i couldn't pass on the price. Looked around for another one that i can give away as a gift and couldn't find any more. Everything is sparkling clean, including my keys. :)

My Tj Maxx didn't have one ;(

So what is the price? Which department is it located? Can they do a store search?

The price at TJ Maxx was $29.99! It is hard to describe the dept, at the TJ Maxx near me it was located near the front of the store, in the middle with other gadgets. They have other SI gadgets also. I tried to do a store search on the website but could not do it.
If anyone is in Westchester, NY, the TJ Maxx I bought mine is in Hartsdale, NY on Central Ave, there was one left on the lower shelf. Let us know if someone buys it, but check your local TJ Maxx it is worth the trip.

I have an US also, does a good job, just personal preference.
