"Just Barely" Pregnant PS''ers

Re:

Good luck, DD! I'll be thinking of you!

welcome, inhisarms! So glad to have you here with us! My first appointment is on the 4th as well :))

princessplease, yay for 7 weeks. glad to hear you haven't been too sick.

dcg, I'm so glad your appointment went well and that you had a nice holiday!

modern, I hope you're feeling a little better! have you considered meds for the nausea?

basil, congrats on a good u/s! I'm sure the tech would have called a dr if there was any concern at all! Try to relax and enjoy your pics and dvd!

:wavey: everyone else!

AFM, We had a lovely Christmas with my in-laws and told them over christmas eve dinner. We had planned to wait until Christmas but DH couldn't hold it in any longer and I was honestly surprised he lasted as long as he did with them here - almost 24 hours. I got them a book called "Memories for my Grandchild" that is kind of like a journal they can write in for their grandkids and was going to tell them when they opened it. Anyway, my father-in-law said he knew what we were about to announce before we even said it. So I asked him what he thought and sure enough, he said, "you're having a baby!" They knew we were trying so it's not surprising. They were thrilled and it was nice to fill them in in person.

So all's well here. looking forward to my appointment next week and hoping I get an u/s. I'm still feeling fine - just like last pregnancy. No nausea, just fatigue. I feel really fortunate!

hope you are all doing well!

Re:

Good luck DD!!!

Mrs- What a cute way to tell them!!!!!!

AFM, today is 7 weeks, yay!! Lower back pain has hit, along with some very mild and intermittent cramps, which have me a bit freaked out :errrr: (Please someone tell me this is normal lol!). Other than that, things are good here!

Re:

Inhisarms - welcome and congrats! So glad you were able to get your appointment bumped up... 10 days sooner is awesome... especially in this process when days seem like weeks. Let us know how it goes.

DD - good luck with the NT scan. I hope all went well and you got to see some good shots of your little one. I feel like since you were paying out of pocket you deserve an extra long appointment.

princessplease - congrats on getting to week 7 without feeling too bad. Hopefully it will stay that way.

basil - yeah for the good ultrasound. I am pretty sure the nurses would have called in a doctor if there was anything to be concerned about.

DC - congrats on a second great ultrasound and graduating to the regular OB :) Baby steps forward!

L2L - another congrats on the successful appointment. Hopefully next time you'll get to hear that heartbeat! When is your next app?

Modern - I would have caved too - glad you got to see that little flickering heart early. How was your first official app? How you feeling these days?

Sorry to anyone I missed!

***

12 weeks today! I am on the same schedule as DD and we also had out NT scan this afternoon. It was my first transabdominal scan and aside from having to pee REALLY bad because of all the water they made me drink, the scan was great. I am on another forum for mom's due in July 2011 and although the majority of NT scans have gone well, at least a handful have gotten to the scan to find out the baby had died. I can't even begin to imagine how crushing that must be... but of course it's a fear in the back of my mind. So leading up to the exam I was pretty nervous and I really just wanted to see that the baby was ok. And he or she was... thank goodness. My DH and I got to check out the baby from all sorts of angles for about 15 minutes. It was moving around a little bit, and just mesmerizing to watch. The tech was very stoic and not much of a talker but she was labeling parts and measuring things on the screen so we had some idea of what was going on. The baby is about 5 cm long (so small still) and the neck fluid measurement was 1mm and 1.2mm so well within the normal limits. We asked about gender and the tech said she couldn't tell. She also didn't offer us any pictures and we forgot to ask so I am kinda bummed about that. And as I was typing this the Dr. just called to say that the scans + our blood work indicates a risk for downs to be 1 in 6000 so that is a huge relief. All in all a great day :)

We are gonna tell another set of friends at New Years and by January 6th we'll be starting our 13 week and the 2nd trimester... Kinda crazy right? I don't want to move to the big girl thread without of all you... but I guess it will be time soon.

Happy New Years everyone. Hoping for a wonderful 2011 for all!

Re:

Mrs. -- sorry I missed you... I've seen those fill-in books for grandparents/greatgrandparents and I LOVE them. Thinking I need to order some on amazon asap. It's sweet your DH was so excited to spill the beans. Good luck with your u/s - hope it goes great.

Re:

Good luck DD at your NT scan.

eta: Princess I have had some cramping. I still get it; according to my OB it is normal I guess unless it gets severe and you have bleeding. If it still bothers you, maybe call the doctors office and ask them? hugs and hope everything is okay.

Hi I just wanted to pop in and say a HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to all the new Mommas to be!!! :appl: :appl:

Re:

Hi ladies,
I've been totally MIA but reading here and there. Sounds like everyone is trucking along pretty well, just watching the weeks tick by--which is so great! Not much new for me, which is why I haven't been posting much. The zofran has been helpful but hasn't totally knocked out the vomiting, although it is limiting it to about 3 times a day which is so welcome. I'm still losing weight but I'm hopeful that that will end soon--I'm 10w3d and hoping that 12 weeks brings some relief (although I'm trying to stay realistic because I know that might not be the case either...) I'm having a few extra appointments here and there to weigh in and check for ketones, but everyone has been amazing at my doc's office; reassuring, encouraging, and telling me to call if anything gets worse or feels "off." My husband may borrow a doppler from work for some extra reassurance. ;-)

Inhisarms: so excited for your BFP! We have hypothetical names on hand that we've had for years, but now I feel like naming a baby is a HUGE commitment so I want to take it slowly. Any gut feeling about what you're having? Will you find out??

Modern: talk to your doctor about the nausea. I was not functioning and even weepy at times; the Zofran makes it much more manageable (although beware the constipation factor and get some colace while you fill the script!)

Basil: how exciting to find out how far along you are! It sounds like things are going pretty well for you, and that the nausea is manageable. Hooray for happy beans!

DCG: so glad you enjoyed the ultrasound. It definitely makes it more real. How fun also that you were able to enjoy a vacation and start collecting some baby goodies too. I have had an influx of hand-me-down books and whatnot (although I will admit that Dr. Oz would already think my kid is screwed...) and it's fun to start paging through and thinking ahead.

DD: How did the NT scan go? Mine is on 1/12. I'm nervous but don't think we would take any more action if we had high odds of DS or something. I think your baby belly is adorable already! All I have is bloat and a total loss of muscle since I don't feel well enough to do too much.

RC: How exciting to make it to 12 weeks! Each week feels like an accomplishment, and I'm so looking forward to #12! Such a relief that your odds for Down's are so low, but who the heck denies excited new parents pictures?!?! We too figure we'll be telling some friends today. I'm not the world's biggest drinker, but it's rare that I don't drink over the holidays (and NYE) so that cat is coming out of the bag. One friend whom we told said, "I already knew. Your reaction to the McRib commercial made it abundantly clear that you were knocked up." HA! I'm also telling my grammy tomorrow on her 89th(!) birthday. That will likely have tears involved.

PP: I totally had cramps really early on and then again around 7-8 weeks, so I think it's normal, but that's just me! I also have the back pain which is so strange for me--I have lost about 10 lbs so it's not like there's a real strain on my back at the moment! I never cease to be amazed by what a huge effect this little nugget is already having! Congrats on 7 weeks--when's your first ultrasound?

Alright ladies. Happy New Year to all!!!
-m.m.

Re:

Well my scan went great! Odds of Down is about 1/8500 and the other two major trisomies are less than 1/64000, so all is well. We enjoyed the scan as unlike last time, it was done by an OB and he talked us through everything and gave us a show. Turns out my uterus is tipped back, instead of forward, and that meant that it was very hard to get any images since there was more tissue between the scanner and the baby. Supposedly just a natural variation in anatomy, but less common. It meant that we did not get any great pictures of the baby, but we did enjoy the show a lot. The baby was moving a lot and we got a fun tour of the placenta and the baby's body etc. On the whole a really great experience and it made it all real for DH and I!

Like RC, today I am 12 weeks. This second pregnancy is really flying along. You are so much more distracted by your first child that you cannot obsess as much about the pregnancy. It is nice in some ways, and a little sad in others. I have said for a while that once you have kids time speeds up and you are on the freight train to the grave ;)) So I am not happy that time is going so fast. I am trying to savour it more.

Hugs to all the other mom's to be out there! Sorry, no individual shout outs, but I am reading along and keeping up with all of you!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Both normal. As long as the cramps are not extremely sever and there is no bleeding it is fine.

And back pain comes from relaxin, the hormone that causes all your joints to loosen in preparation for child birth. I found in both my pregnancies that it would come and go. But relaxin is the reason you need to be more careful physically when pregnant. You can injure yourself really easily.

Re:

DD and RC, yay for great NT scans!! congrats you two!

Moxie, sorry to hear you're still not feeling great. hope the nausea subsides more for you soon!

Re:

DCG: Glad you had a nice vacation and got some fun baby gifts! Hooray for graduating to a regular OB.

Basil: Ditto to the others, if something were wrong the tech would have gotten someone else. A strong heartbeat and being 9+ weeks is such good news. Enjoy the photos!

Mrs: What a nice way to tell the future grandparents! I hadn't heard of those books but they sound like such a special way to share their legacy. I am going to have to look into those... Good luck with your ultrasound this week. Hopefully you continue to feel symptom free.

Princess: As for the cramps, mild crampy/strechy feelings can be VERY normal, a sign that the uterus is stretching. Some people even have spotting which can be normal, but also very SCARY! I would say if you are worried, call your doc. That is what they are there for!

RC: Wow, 12 weeks already, CONGRATS! Glad the NT scan went great. Have you told most of your friends or were you waiting until the 12 week mark? We will miss you in this thread, but hopefully we will all see you in the big girl thread soon ;)

Moxie: Sorry you are still feeling sick, but glad the meds are helping somewhat. Hopefully the 12 week mark will bring you more relief.

Dreamer: Glad the NT scan went great, and for being 12 weeks already!

IHA: Lots of luck for your first appt. I am impressed that you have names already! We have thrown some ideas around, but nothing concrete yet. We decided we are not going to share with family/friends until after the baby is born b/c we don't want any commentary and once the name is on a cute little baby, there is little room for commentary!

AFM: 8 wks 1 day today! I snuck another peek in clinic yesterday with DH and baby is now measuring 1.7 cm with a strong HB, right on track. I knew the office u/s would be a temptation but it is reassuring to make sure the LO is still doing well in there. I was honest with my OB about my peek and she said she did the same thing with her kids, so I knew I was in good hands!!
Ironically, DH's 92 year old grandfather with whom he is very close, was just diagnosed with end stage cancer last week, and the baby happens to be due on his birthday, Aug 12th. It made for a bittersweet holiday, but also something for him and the family to be excited about. He likely won't make it until then, but it was very special to share the news with him, and makes me think twice about the way fate works...
The nausea comes and goes and though I have considered calling my doc, part of me also just feels like since I am not losing wt, I should just try to stick it out. I am not scheduled for another appt until Jan 21st at 11 weeks, but if things get worse I will try to go in sooner. I start a killer rotation next week with back to 13+ hour days which I am not looking forward to, but maybe it will make the next 4 weeks fly by.

Happy New Year to all :wavey:

Re:

RyanClaire: Thanks so much. Yes, I am very glad I got in earlier. I am so excited and I will let you all know how it goes!

Moxie.moo: Thanks! No "gut" feeling as of yet. I would love a girl since my family has SO many boys. I am the youngest of 5 and between my siblings I have 5 nephews and 1 niece. We need some girls! However, I would be equally as happy if we had a boy. Happy and healthy is all that really matters anyway! I agree that naming a child is a huge commitment. We had names picked out for years and once we found out we were expecting we started talking about them again and have completely different names in mind. I will definitely be finding out what we are having. I would LOVE to be able to wait and have it be a surprise but I know I can't make it that long. Haha. Unless of course the baby just never cooperates and we can't find out. LoL. That would so happen to me.

Modernsparkler: Thank you! I LOVE the names we picked out. I think we should have a couple more on deck just in case though... since I've been told that sometimes the name you have picked just doesn't fit that little bundle of joy when you first lay eyes on it. But I think we picked some winners so we shall see! Oh, and I don't care what other people think of the name hubby and I pick. It is OUR child after all. It's not for anyone else to like! But I see your point, sometimes you just don't want to hear it. And plus, some people can be so insensitive. I'm sure the name you will pick with be absolutely adorable!

Well, I hope everyone is doing amazingly. Happy New Year to all!

Re:

Hi JBP ladies! :wavey:
4 weeks today...haha! I thought id poke in since I made my appt today. Over the summer I moved two hours away, so had to find a new doctor. I found someone who has offices both where I work and close to where I live/want to deliever, so I thought id try it out there. It is a single doc in private practice, and have no experience on how that will work out. If anyone has a doc in private practice, id be happy to learn more! The appt isn't untul the end of the month, when ill (hopefully) be 7.5 weeks along. It is so hard not to think about the what-ifs, but I feel much more at peace and zen this time around. When I had my m/c in april, I wasn't nearly as prepared as I am now. Now I sort of feel what will be will be, and trying to not drive myself nuts.

We've told immediate family and a few close friends. Since we had only told family before, I thought id tell some friends, since the more people praying about it might help :) and I hated telloig people about the m/c who hadn't even known I was preg to begin with. My birthday is in the beginning of march, so I figured that could be the big reveal. So far just feeling bloated, sore nips, and sometimes some belly aches. For some reason my stomach is getting really full, really fast, so I've been trying to make sure my portions are small enough. Other than that, just being positive, peeing on sticks frequently (got a really dark wondfo+ today!), and looking forward to a baby come September! Yippee!

Ps: my friend who I did tell has a 2 month old...she said she picked me up a pregnancy magazine at her doctors office today...she is just too cute. She also said she lent out some mat clothes to another preg friend, but kept the best ones for me since she knew it wouldn't be long. Love her.

Re:

So glad to see you over in this thread, Charbie! We'll be having our little ones around the same time!

Question for you ladies, I have my first appt tomorrow. I am 5w3d. (Of course that is only me going off my LMP) I know I will be meeting with a nurse and will have a blood & urine test and just talk with the nurse about what to expect. I am guessing I will have a pap too? But not sure... Anyway, my question is, should my husband come with me? I don't want him to sit there and be bored when all we're gonna do is talk and go over my history and such... However, I will be SO UPSET if they by chance do an ultrasound. Now I know that this early they probably will not but I am so scared that if he doesn't come, they will want to do one for some reason. I don't want him to miss that. So should my husband come or not? Tell me there is no chance they'll do an ultrasound...

Re:

My doc didn't plan on doing an u/s my first aappt, but did one bc I had had some minimal bleeding. I honestly don't think they will do one, and if they did want to do one, you could request they wait until your husband can be there and ask to schedule one. I don't think that's unreasonable. Knowing what I know now, I wouldn't want an u/s this early bc to be honest, it may just freak you out. Things are soooooo touch and go between weeks 5-7 that what may not show up one day could be there the next.

Or you always can call the office and ask. My DH had lots of goofy questions, so he wanted to be there. This time around, I think we will wait until only the u/s appts.

Re:

My husband comes to all my appointments, did last time and has this time so far too. He likes being part of things.

Re:

Thanks ladies. DH did not come with me today but I'm glad he didn't as all I did was meet with the nurse. I had a urine test to confirm the pregnancy and I am indeed pregnant. As if I didn't already know. hehe. My EDD is September 2, 2011. I had to have blood work done as well. They took 5 tubes. They are testing for my blood type/RH factor, Cystic Fibrosis, Prenatal profile, blood type, HIV and German Measles. Oh and they are also checking my progesterone level as my sister ended up going through 4 miscarriages due to a severe progesterone deficiency. This way if I happen to have the same problem, they will catch it in time. I have another appointment next week with one of the mid-wives.

So how is everyone else doing??

Re:

hi mamas!

modern, I'm sorry to hear about DH's grandfather. how special that the baby is due on his birthday though. Good luck with your killer rotation that starting this week! I hope your nausea goes away soon!

inhisarms, I'm glad your appointment went well today. re: husbands coming to appointments, Mine didn't come today either and will likely only come to one or two appointments with me since his work schedule makes it harder for him to join me. I'm so impressed that you already have names picked out! My DH won't even start talking about it until we know what we're having and even then I know we'll have trouble coming to something we both like.

Charbie, so glad to have you here with us! how are you feeling?

Hi everyone else!

AFM, I just got home from our first dr's appointment which went really well. This is a new dr for me (since we've moved since my last pregnancy) and I really liked him and the staff a lot. He did an u/s and everything looked great. Apparently he likes to do u/s at every visit until 20 weeks which I love! My last dr didn't have a u/s machine in the office and it was such a pain to have to go elsewhere for them. It's so nice to just do it all at once. The baby is measuring 9 weeks 6 days (3 days ahead according to my last cycle) and had a good heart beat. The dr even tried to see what the sex was a said 60% boy! It sure did look like there was something there between the legs though I know it's too soon to really say. I was surprised that he wanted to check already though and it made me excited to know we will probably know the sex sooner than later. I'm happy to report that DD did great in the appointment as well. She was very patient and quiet and held my hand while I was getting checked out. I scheduled another apt for 2 weeks form mow when we will do the NT scan. I hope it goes well!

hugs, Mrs

Re:

MS- Yay for 8 weeks!!!!!!!! Thanks for the info re: cramping.

Char- Welcome!!!!!

IHA- Glad the appt went well! DH is only coming to the u/s appointments as he works pretty far from the ob, and it's not worth it for him to travel up from work,(about 35 miles each way) come to the appointment and drive back to work for a non us appointment.Mrs- Yay for your first appointment!!!!!! It'll be intersting to see if the doc is right about the gender. I'm glad you have a great doc!

AFM, 7w5d, feeling fatigued all the time. The immense hunger had subsided a lot, which is good, but there is nausea now (still no vomiting, thankfully!). I have my first appt on Monday with the OB nurse for all the family history stuff, then first u/s on 1/24. I'm hoping they'll at least do a doppler on Monday so I can hear the <3beat.

If they try a doppler don't be surprised if they cannot hear it. Depending on your anatomy it can be hard to hear, and even in the thinnest most forward-tipped uterus women, 10 weeks is usually the earliest!

Re:

IHA: so now do you have a follow up planned to see the bebe??

I had the freakiest thing happen today. I haven't said anything except to 2 close girlfriends and our immediate families. My boss (who is 37, single, no kids) comes in my office today and says, "My boss just texted me and said she had a dream last night that I was pregnant and and had awful morning sickness." I about fell out of my chair. So then she and my other cowowrker who was in my office started talking about how neither have been bitten by the baby bug. I just sat there all flustered not really contributing to the conversation. Since im very close with my other coworker who was in there, as soon as my boss walked out, I had to spill. I go, "ok, so, I just have to say something now after this conversation. Im actually pregnant but haven't said anything yet. Her dream was right, she just had the wrong person in the office!" Her jaw about dropped to the ground with mine, going, "OMG! She is psychic! Congrats, by the way, but that was crazy!" I know she wont tell anyone, so I felt safe saying something, and I know she really is happy for me. I just started working there in August, so ill be there just over a year when im due.

ETA: pp! Glad you're still hanging in there doing on! You're lucky no vomit issues...I really hope I don't get too nauseous.

Re:

and now...for your viewing pleasure...my POAS addiction collection! The one on the bottom is from 10DPO in the evening, going all the way to this afternoon, which would be 15 DPO. Occasionally there are more than 1 for the day

Re:

Just a quick post... Charbie, at this time I don't have an appt to see the baby. I have an appt to meet with one of the midwives next week and the nurse said they would schedule the first true visit to check the baby and such then. She said it would probably be in the beginning of February which would put me at about 10 weeks. I can't wait!

I wish I could address everyone right now but I haven't been feeling too great this afternoon/evening. I just woke up from a 1 1/2 hour nap and starving. I need some food!

I'll be back later!

Re:

Hi all,

So glad to see that everyone is doing well!

Charbie - congratulations! And funny about your boss's dream.

Dreamer - that's awesome that your NT scan went so well. Do you feel like your morning sickness is getting better at this point?

Princessplease - good luck for your appointment. As someone else mentioned though, don't be too surprised if they can't hear the heartbeat this early.

Mrs - that's so rad that your doctor could guess at the gender so early and that you'll get all those ultrasounds. It will be cool to see if he is right!

inhisarms - My DH came to my first appointment because we did not know what the doctor would end up doing. I'm glad he came cause I really needed the moral support. But it sounds like you made it through just fine!

Modern - so jealous of you able to get an u/s whenever you choose!

Moxie - glad you are feeling somewhat better but hope you continue to feel better as you progress along

RC - congrats on the great NT scan!

Anyway, we just got back from a week back home with my family. It was awesome to see my brother and SIL since they live in England and we only see them maybe once a year. We had told them and my parents already, but we announced it to my extended family. My due date is one day (and two years) after my cousin's daughter's birthday so everyone was excited we could have joint birthday parties. DH looked up the official results of my ultrasound through his hospital computer access and the radiologist opinion was that everything was normal, except for a cyst in the right ovary that was likely the corpus luteum...which I don't think is a big deal but that was probably the thing that I saw her measuring when she wasn't saying what she was doing.

I'm 10 weeks now and I scheduled my NT scan (though they call it a different name here) for next Friday, and we are excited to see the little vomit blob on the ultrasound again! One of DH's colleagues said the machine they use for that is a lot higher resolution than the machine they use for the dating ultrasound so we should be able to see more - arms and legs and such.

My cousin gave me a bunch of stuff that her baby has outgrown - an infant carseat with 2 bases, a bassinet, a huge bag of clothes, and a jumpy spinny seat thing. She gave it almost apologetically saying that I probably wanted to buy my own stuff, but a quick look into babies r us and this stuff is expensive! She also said she would give me a bunch of cloth diapers and a pack and play.

Is there any reason not to use a 2 year old infant seat? They were never in any accidents, and the brand (Graco Snugride) seems well regarded. Her baby is tall tall tall (dad is 6'5", mom is 5'11"), so I think she only used it 8-9 months. Obviously I don't want to compromise on safety and we could afford a new one if it is really better but if it isn't, I figure the baby won't know it's a hand-me-down.

They have expiration dates, I have no idea how to check it but if you can that would be best. Maybe on the manufacturer website? I think you can find the item number or something on the seat somewhere.

Hi -- just lurking on this thread, as my LO is now almost 5 months old. However, we did borrow a carseat (a Snugride, in fact). For the Graco Snugride, there should be an expiration date stamped on the carseat somewhere -- check towards the front of the seat on the underside underneath the cover. That is where the expiration date is on the one we borrowed.

As long as it hasn't expired and you trust that it has not been in any accidents, there is no reason you shouldn't use it. Those things are expensive!

How wonderful for you to be able to borrow so much stuff! We were really lucky, too. Our friends were thrilled to loan us stuff (and temporarily clear the clutter from their houses)!

Re:

Basil - Carseats typically expire in about 7 years, so it is probably fine. There should be a date somewhere on it - sticker on the bottom?

Charbie - So I see that I am not the only one with a problem. :D

Dreamer - Good to hear that the NT scan went well!

Thanks for asking! Like last time it started getting slowly better around 10 weeks. It comes and goes, good days and bad days now. But definitely on its way out!

Re:

Hello my fellow preggo ladies,

I am so sorry I have been a stinker and not posting lately, but I think its a combination of tired and busy. No excuse, I know, but I will try to be better this year.

Princess - I'm loving the belly shots. I will start posting some too, but not quite yet. How is the m/s going, still managing to keep your lunch down? Btw, the cramping is normal, so long as there is no bleeding. It's likely just your uterus streching out. As for the first appt, I wouldn't hold your breath for any type of scans. Usually, its just a very long Q&A with the nurse about your family history, your medical history, and some going through the pregnancy thing. As IHA mentioned, I wouldn't bother Dh with going, because it's kinda boring. I would bring him with you to the first doctor meeting, so he has a chance to ask questions and also meet the doc that will probably deliver you. Hopefully they will do some type of scan then too. Btw, I hear you on the fatigue. I feel like it is getting worse as the weeks go on. Ugh.

IHA - I'm glad to hear that everything went well with the doc appt and that your DH didn't miss the first viewing of your little bean! My practice does the first meeting with the nurse too. It ended up being a really long appt, so I imagine you were glad not to have your DH there. It sounds like they are covering all their bases with the tests. Just thought I would ask (in case your doc didn't), you don't have any cats do you? If so, make sure you get tested for the taxoplasmosis ticker and don't clean the kitty box in the meantime.

Dreamer - Great news on the results from the NT scan. And congrats on almost reaching the second trimester! Are you going to jump over to the big girl preggo thread soon?

Mrs - That sounds like a very nice Christmas indeed. I am happy to hear that the grandparents were so excited. I love the book idea, and might have to get that for my parents. That's great about your first appt. I love that your doc likes to do ultrasounds so often, so jealous! That's really cool that you will also find out your baby's sex sooner rather than later. You were hoping for a boy right? If so, I will keep m y fingers crossed that the doc got it right. Btw, that was really cute of DD to hold your hand during the check up, :saint:

RC - I can't believe you are already entering your second trimester, how fast time flies, eh? That is also great news on your scan. I bet it's such a relief! So, how did telling the friends go? I bet they were all really excited for you.

Skippy - Congrats to you too my dear, twins, how amazing! I look forward to getting to know you better in the Preggo thread.

Moxie - So sorry to hear that you are still so sick. That is just awful. I would say the only consolation is that you know your little baby is growing big and strong. Hopefully as you get closer to the end of the first trimester, the m/s will start to clear up. That's great that you doctor is keeping such good tabs on you though, it sounds like a great practice. Here's to the beginning of the second trimester!

Modern - Congrats on getting to 8+ weeks. That is too funny about getting little sneak peaks. I would probably be doing the same thing though. I got spoiled early on with bi-weekly ultrasounds, and I am bummed about have to go so long between ultrasounds now :(sad . I am sorry to hear about DH's grandpa. That is just awful, but I'm sure he was excited about the pregnancy and it will give him something to look forward too. My aunt passed almost two years ago, a few months before my wedding, but having something to look forward to definitely kept her spirits up. That's no good about feeling crappy and having to work extra long days, but if you aren't feeling better, I would def get yourself a script for some Zofran. Good luck with the crazy work schedule!

Charbie - Welcome to the JBP thread, so good to have you with us! I am very excited that your got your BFP this month and look forward to sharing in your preggo journey. I can't imagine how nerve ranking this must be for you, but it sounds like you have a great attitude about it. I think its a good call on telling the friends, and the extra prayers will be helpful as well. Best of luck my dear and congrats again! Btw, wow, what a crazy dream. Somebody is definitely psychic and what a lovely collection

Basil - Congrats on getting to the double digits! I am right behind you, as I will be 10 weeks tomorrow. It sounds like you had a great vaca, and I'm glad you got to see your brother. The distance can make it tough, but it seems like you guys are still close. That's cute that your DH looked up your radiologist report, but it sounds like everything is good. I wouldn't worry to much about the corpus lutem cyst, as many people have them. Hopefully it will just get absorbed on its own. As to your question about the handed down goodies, I am not sure, but if they are of good quality, why not use them, free stuff right?

****
AFM - Everything is going pretty well. I am officially 10 weeks tomorrow, so yeah for double digits! Over New Year's, we ended up telling a lot of our friends that we are expecting, so that was exciting. Everybody was really psyched, and I think since we are the first ones that are having a baby in our little bunch, it was that much more exciting. Otherwise, I am feeling ok, but am constantly fighting with the fatigue. I find myself falling asleep at my desk sometimes, but I am really trying to stay with it. Besides that, I have some gastro issues (bloating, gas, etc) so I am trying to keep things regulated whatever way I can. I am also trying to keep an eye on the weight gain. Most places say to aim for around 3-5 pounds during the first trimester, and I am doing my best to keep there. We'll check my progress next week though, as I have my first appt with my doc on Monday morning.

On that note, for the ladies who opted (or will opt) for the NT scan, was it advised by your doc due to age or other factors, or did you choose to do it on your own? I kinda want to do it, just to know if there is something wrong, but my DH (and my mom) are not to keen on it. Any feedback from those who have done it so far? Thanks!

dcg, glad to hear you're well! re: the NT scan. I think it's pretty standard practice for dr's to do it. I had one last time and will have one again this time. I'm not of advanced age, nor do I have any genetic concerns from my family history. I think DD suggested earlier that some people choose not to do the NT scan (or other prenatal testing) if they know for certain that they would NOT terminate the pregnancy even if they clearly showed some sort of genetic disorder. I personally am not sure how I would handle that news but, like you, I know that I would rather be aware of the risks before the baby is born which is why I will be doing the NT scan and triple screen again this time. May I ask why your mom and DH are not interested in having you do it? Unlike an amnio, there's really no risk to the baby since the procedure only involves them taking some measurements.

Ditto all of this, and especially the family objection??

The scan also allowed us to see the baby for the first time, and allowed the doc to check the placenta's position, and the gross anatomy of the baby. Without routine u/s it was our first opportunity to get confirmation of the pregnancy too  And for us the results would have changed our plans for the pregnancy, so it was a given. Even though we paid out of pocket :knockout: Without doing the NT we would have had to wait until the 20 weeks scan and that was too late in my mind, if we did discover some type of malformation or other issue that was incompatible with life (e.g., severely conjoined twins or something). I would rather know that type of information much sooner.
