"Just Barely" Pregnant PS''ers

Re:

NEL, wow, we're really hogging the thread today aren't we? It must be the excitement coming from a fresh BFP. Anyway, I'm glad you mentioned you're dealing with the same TMI issue too. I thought I was weird and the only one. And yes apparently the best way to get BFP is to go on a booze and clothing shopping spree. I haven't mentioned to DH about all the clothes I just bought otherwise he'd probably get kinda pissed/annoyed that it's going to be a lot of "wasted" money (at least for a while). I'm kinda bummed because I scored an AWESOME sweater dress that I was looking forward to wearing this fall. Somehow I don't know how well I can rock the sweater dress with a preggo bump.

Thankfully cutting back on caffeine won't be so hard on us, eh? I don't drink anything during the day. Normally I just pound water and that keeps me awake. Just finished my first liter for the day. About that time to fill up again.

Does anyone know when we can start drinking green tea again? I want to go to dim sum this weekend. I know it's supposed to block folic acid absorption or stop folic acid from being in the system somehow. If I shouldn't that's fine, I'll just ask for chrysanthemum tea instead.

Oh and DH was really cute, he asked this weekend, "So are you not supposed to eat spicy food now?" I was like "Heck no! I'm all about the spicy food. And the only thing the doctor said was no raw shellfish." Too bad, I love oysters on the half shell.

Re:

Thanks for the well wishes, everyone! My ultrasound this morning was successful - two sacs, two yolks, two heartbeats :D Our RE was quick to point out that "it's still very early" (I'm at 6w5d) and he didn't tell us the exact heart rate, but I know the crown-to-rump measurement of Baby A is 7.9 mm and Baby B is 7.58 mm (it's written on the photo printout!)

I will continue to see him weekly until 10 weeks. Cautiously overjoyed right now :appl:

Re:

LC-first congrats!!! :appl:

Constipation in first tri is very common. If you are taking PNVs, you can ask your OB for a rec on one that is a little softer on your tummy. Also, lots of water and walks helped me (plus it's mango season and that helps :) ). You can try mixing flax seed in yogurt too.

Re:

Krissie, OMG, **two** sacs and heartbeats! How fantastic! I'm so happy for you. I'm a twin and it's the best thing ever!!! :appl: I hope keep us posted on what your RE says. Will you be doing repeated ultrasounds when you meet with him? Wow! Again so excited for you!!

Fiery, thanks for the tip on the prenatals. I'm taking OTC prenatals. Normally I take iron supplements too, but they've typically never caused any issues before.

Re:

Krissie, oh my gosh, congrats on the twins!! That is really exciting. How many embryos did they implant? I've had several friends who've had successful IVF, it's wonderful to see them so happy after months (or years) of disappointment. I feel like it makes that BFP extra special. Do you see the high-risk OB tomorrow?

LC, I'm totally in excitement mode. Plus I'm naturally talkative and I had a slow morning at work :) I'm excited to see this thread growing, though!

Re:

Congratulations Lliang and NEL! I am so happy for you both!

NEL, I definitely have been constipated the past few weeks. I think it's a normal pregnancy sign :(sad My RE said that I can take Miralax without harming the baby - hth! They transferred 2 embryos - one looked great and the other was lagging slightly behind, so I'm really surprised both of them took! I need to stop Googling everything, because I had just about talked myself out of this pregnancy from all the risk factors I've seen re: MFI, etc. I was already high risk due to my blood clotting disorder, so I already have my high risk OB lined up where I'm living (side story: we're moving cross country in a couple of months, so I'll have to find a new one then).

Brown_Eyes, thinking of you and hoping your u/s went well today!

Re:

Wow..you guys are hard to keep up with!

Krissie...Congrats! TWINS! that's so exciting!!

pancake...i saw your post in the ttc thread. thinking of you! i know lots of girls who had spotting and went on to have healthy pregnancies! keep us posted!!

NEL...your DH sounds very sweet and protective. love it! and i'm with you in not wanting to be one of the newly preggos who goes out and buys all maternity wear. i just bought a new pair of jeans two days before my BFP and i love them. my goal is to stay in them as long as possible. plus, i'm pretty tiny (just 5'0) so i'm very afraid of looking like a meatball. i'm hoping that i'll fit in my clothes for a long while.

LC...i totally didn't know that about green tea so thanks! i'm a diet coke gal and i already miss it. oh well! maybe this baby will cure me from my addiction! hope you are feeling well. sorry to hear about your bloat. i have bloating issues too but, um..., the opposite problem than what you have if you catch my drift.

I guess that will lead me into my update. i think yesterday was my first day of feeling like actual crap. SO tired and just overall yucky. not necessarily sick or anything, but queesy. i keep feeling that feeling like you are so hungry that you are nauseas but the idea of food is not good. oh well. and as i was saying above...i keep waking up at 5am with, let's say, some #2 issues. i miss sleeping. i was getting nervous that this was a bad sign but i had a doc appt today so i was trying not to worry until i met with her. i went in last thurs to confirm and do bloodwork. it came back today and she said everything looks even better than she expected. yay! i know that my progesterone was a 12 and my levels (?) were in the 800s. i'm so bad at remembering this stuff (plus I'm half asleep all the time now). She took more blood and is expecting it to more than double by wednesday when i get those results. then next wednesday the 29th i'll get too see the lil sprout.cannot wait. that should put me at 6w2d but i kinda feel like i might be further along than the sites that go by last period are saying. who knows!

wow, that was a ramble and a half. ok, back to work. hope you are all feeling well!

Re:

Krissie, I have no doubt that you are probably still freaked out since this must feel surreal for you. Just take it a day at a time, right now things look really good for you!!

Marlie, I'm so sorry you're starting the "feel like crap" stage. On one hand, I guess feeling like crap is a nice reminder that you're still pregnant...but feeling like crap is no fun. I think I have a couple of weeks (at least) before I hit that stage, though I'd like to just skip it! But your bloodwork came back great and you have an u/s scheduled, so that is good!

Re:

Marlie, sorry for your newly "feeling like crap" update. But it sounds like you had a great appt and you'll get your U/S soon! How fantastic! It seems like your morning sickness isn't too bad, I hope it says on a manageable level. Slight queasiness throughout the day is tough but manageable. I hope it stays that way. Make sure you keep up your fluid intake if you're having opposite issues than me. I've been pounding water, I figure it couldn't help. And sorry about your Diet Coke "withdrawal." Totally possible that you O'd earlier. Hoping you'll get some accurate dating at your U/S.

Re:

Holy cow! Congrats to all the new BFP's!! So exciting!

All the best wishes to you ladies for a H&H 9 months.

I understand the cautiously optimistic part of this -- I am right there with you all! But, it is hard to not get excited too....

Today I had my first appointment with my regular OB -- i am almost 9 weeks and got to see the heartbeat again!

So excited that I have seen it 3 times in the last 3 weeks!

I scheduled my next appointement for 3 weeks from now and will have my nuchal screening ultrasound at that appointement.

In the meantime, we plan on telling family 4th of July weekend. No one IRL knows yet, so we are beyond excited to share our news.

I feel like i am starting to relax a little bit. I still feel great -- just a very few food averisons (that seem to change everyday!) and some boob soreness.

So excited to now have such a large group of "barely" pregnant ladies to go through this journey together! yeah!!! :))

Re:

Krissie - So excited to have another twin mama in the "Just Barely" group! Congratulations!

I had my first appointment with my regular OB today (first ultrasound was with my RE, second was with an RN who did my intake appointment, and now I'm onto regular appointments). I was a little disappointed there was no sono (I know they don't do one at every single appointment), but I did get to hear the heartbeat on the doppler for the first time, which was exciting. The doc wasn't able to differentiate between the two heartbeats, but we heard enough to know that at least one of them is very active in there. We have our NT scan next week, so I'm a little nervous, but excited to see the kids again.

Re:

RFMA, congrats on the OB appt. Wow, 3 heart beat viewings in 3 weeks! That's fantastic! What's a nuchal screening? Sorry for the dumb question. I'm glad you haven't had much issues with symptoms. A few food aversions sounds do-able. :) So much fun to be able to announce your pregnancy in a few short weeks! Are you having a BBQ with friends and family?

Parrot, Hooray for the heartbeats on the doppler! I guess you're kinda "spoiled" with the RE sono's at each appointment. Is the NT scan the same thing that RFMA is talking about? What is that?

And I'm really excited to have so much company during this exciting period. Stay healthy ladies! :wavey:

Re:

This might not be 100% correct, but as far as I can remember, the Nuchal Translucensy Scan (or NT scan) is a screening test (doc described it as a very detailed ultrasound) for chromosomal defects, such as Downs Syndrome, that measures the amount of fluid in the fetus's neck. This scan is usually combined with two blood tests. It's not as accurate as an amnio or CVS to determine abnormalities, but since it's non-invasive, there's no risk of miscarriage involved. At the ripe old age of 35, I'm hoping it'll give me a little peace of mind, without the risk of losing the babies we've been trying for nearly 2 years to conceive.

Re:

Krissie-Congrats!!!! So excited for your two little diamonds:-)

Re:

RMFA, you lucky duck with all of your ultrasounds! I would want to hear the heartbeat all the time, so 3 times in 3 weeks sounds good to me! Were you really excited to make the switch to the OB today--that just makes it seem so much more "official" :). And how great that you get to tell your family over the 4th--I think making that announcement would be so much fun!

PT, you had your first appt. with your OB today, too? I'm glad you at least got to listen to the heartbeats on the doppler. Thanks for the NT scan info--so it sounds like the NT scan is done at the very end of the first trimester? I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the news is good and you don't have to worry about it anymore. How long does it usually take to get results? Since it's an ultrasound, I'm assuming results are pretty quick.

I broke down and bought a couple of pregnancy books today--I started reading The Girlfriend's Guide to Pregnancy and it's pretty funny.

Re:

Lurking again -- NT scan measures the space behind the neck between 12 and 14 weeks, and yes, to check for DS and other abnormalities. They are a lot of fun since you get to see so many measurements and you get to see great images of your baby (or babies Parrot!) Ours was bittersweet though, bc our results came back very high risk, so we opted for the CVS at that point. Hope that doesn't happen to any of you. They do a blood test as well, so it takes a little time to get results. Ironically, our scan was okay. It was our bloodwork that was high risk, if I'm not mistaken.

Parrot -- how far along are you? Congrats on twinnies!!!!!

Krissie -- congrats on twins to you as well!!!

Re:

Wow! This thread is really moving!!

pancake - I do find the nausea a little reasuring, but I still would rather do without. It is the most uncomfortable feeling. My betas were through the roof when they took them thursday, and the doc says that is why I feel so horrible. My body will hopefully adjust to the hormones by the end of the first trimester, so I'm just counting down the days. Have they offered you a dating scan? They did one for me yesterday and I like having a firmer due date.

random - I tried the preggie pop drops on your recommendation and they really do work curb the nausea when it's really bad. Thanks for the tip!

LC and NEL - I am so glad that you are over here with me! It's nice to have some of the same group that I've gotten to know so well the past few months in the TTC thread! I know what you ladies mean about trying not to get attached. It really didn't sink in with me until we got the blood test results on Friday, and after yesterdays ultrasound, I am ready to tell the world! Before then, it was just between DH and I because we felt like we didnt have any info, good or bad.

NEL - I tested with the cheapies for a while too! It's reassuring to watch that line get darker and darker. Also, I love what I've read of the Girlfriend's guide.

LC - your non alcoholic drinks sounds so yummy!!

Krissie - Twins!! that's so exciting, and great to know that they are doing good and hearts are beating! I hope you can sit back and relax a little. You are in good hands.

marlie - I'm sorry you're feeling bad, I know how you feel! Just try to eat throughout the day at the first sign (or before) that so hungry you're nauseous feeling. It really does help put a cap on the nausea.

RMFA - isnt seeing the heartbeat the best thing in the world?

PT - glad you at least got to hear the heartbeat! Sending dust for great results from your NT scan!

--------------------------
Thanks for the well wishes girls. I am still nauseated every waking hour (luckily I am sleeping through the night fine). I'm making it through, just have to make sure I eat something every couple of hours or it gets worse. My purse is full of anti nausea weapons.

I had my first ultrasound appointment yesterday! It was beyond exciting to see our little gummy bear, and we got to see and HEAR the heartbeat. It was such an amazing moment. The baby was measuring at 6W4D which adjusts our due date by a day to Feb 9th.

With all the excitement we went straight from the doctor to my parents house and then DH's parents house to tell them the news and share the ultrasound pic. We hope to be able to see or call the rest of the family tonight. I had to share the news with my boss because I may need to set up a part time work from home situation as prescribed by my doctor. Plus, I've been missing work at least once a week because I've been feeling so bad and I needed to explain that it is likely to continue for another 5 weeks (ugh!). I'm hoping that time flies!

Re:

wow! This thread is busy -- that is great!

parrot -- good luck with your NT scan! I am only a few weeks behind you. I hope it goes well. plus, you get to see both little beans!

LC -- Thanks! I think the other ladies explained what the nuchal is. and yes, we are having our family together for the July 4th BBQ....I am so excited to share the news!

NEL -- yes, I was excited to finally get to the regualr OB. it has been a long road and once yesterday's appointment went well, I felt like I could breathe a bit more. It was exciting!

brown eyes -- The heartbeat is the best! So sorry about your sickness! That has to be a huge bummer. Hope you are learning ways to cope and that the job situation works out for you.

AFM -- just trucking along...I haven't gained any weight yet..but today my pants are feeling snug! :P

Re:

Brown_eyes, I'm so excited that you got your ultrasound and was able to hear the heartbeat. That must make it SO MUCH more real. I'm literally counting the days until my first ultrasound. I'm sure everybody was really, really happy for you when you shared the news! Your all-day nausea sounds awful--I have a good friend who's at 7 weeks now and is miserable all day long, too. I really feel for you. And it's scary to think about being that sick for that long, so I'm selfishly hoping it's not so awful for me...I have this fear of getting sick during a client meeting.

RMFA, so the pants are a little snug, eh? Hmm, I wonder what most women do. Do they usually buy a few things in a size larger or just go for the maternity pants? I guess some clothes a size bigger might be helpful after delivery...I don't know, this is why I'm glad to have this thread, so I can ask questions like this!

AFM, nothing exciting...I'm looking at everything that needs to be done in the next month at work and I'm worried. It's going to be pretty busy and I don't want to have to tackle it all while feeling like crap. So I'm taking advantage of this time when I'm not overly sick or tired...I'm really hoping that I can get a huge chunk of projects done before the July 4th weekend. I have a feeling that after that, I might not be feeling so great.

Also, my boobs are sore today. And I'm still peeing on sticks, though only in the mornings now. Line continues to get darker, so I'm happy!

Re:

Even though I am only lurking, I feel like I have so much catching up to do and to give proper congrats, but I only have a minute, so one big global CONGRATS to all the new preggos and double congrats to our new twin momma's-to-be. So exciting!! :appl: :appl: :appl:

The reason for my cursory post, however, is to introduce you ladies to the concept of the bella band a/k/a tummy sleeve: http://www.motherhood.com/Product.asp?Product_Id=930660111&MasterCategory_Id=MC32 ::) This is what you do when your pants are feeling a little snug! :))

Re:

I'm doing an advance welcome to Katy!! SO excited for you to join in this thread!

RMFA...yay for hearing the heartbeat so many times! how exciting. are you doing anything special to tell your fam/friends on the 4th? what a great day to share the news!

parrot...how fun to be hearing the heartbeats. and i'm wishing you lots of luck for the nt scan. also, i love that you called them 'the kids'.... so cute. it put this image in my head of them hanging out together and playing in there!

NEL...yay for the darker tests! so fun to see it every time and get reminded that it IS real!! the girlfriends guide is such a great book. i always get it for friends who are newly pregnant. in fact my bff is due in october and she's going to loan me the copy i got her in january. excited to read it thoroughly instead of skimming. seems like a fun, light read. especially since some of the pregnancy books scare the crap out of me!

brown eyes...so sorry you are dealing with such major nausea (and thanks for the tips!). it's a nice reminder that things are going well, but blechhh. so happy for you that you got to see and hear the heartbeat!! that's fantastic. have fun telling everyone and showing off that pic of your baby!

afm...not much. i'm feeling a little better than yesterday which is scary. also, i think i'm the only newly pregnant person without sore boobs. i keep pushing on them to see if i have even a twinge of soreness and i don't. i hope nothing's wrong. tomorrow i'll hear back about the second round of blood work so i'll try to relax and be patient which is challenging.

Re:

Hey ladies!

Krissie & Parrot (our twin mamas), funny story about my sis and I (we're twins). My mom didn't find out she was having twins until 2 wks before her due date. Apparently our heart beats were synchronized and back then the U/S machines made babies look like grey blobs. Yeah so how crazy is that? I guess better late than never. ha ha!

Parrot, thanks for explaining the NT scan. I guess I knew it was a measurement thing, but other than that I didn't know too much about it. So great you'll get to see the kids hanging out there. Congrats on graduating to the regular OB! I think twins are still considered high risk, I wonder if that means you'll get more U/S. Lucky you. :)

Brown, Hooray for the U/S! I'm so pumped for you! Sorry the nausea is so bad. Good luck talking to your work. I'm hoping your boss will understand. Also they have some prescriptions you can take to help with nausea that's also safe with the baby. You should ask your doc about it if your M/S is debilitating.

RMFA: my previously preggo friends love the bella bands LV pointed out. They'll help keep you in your pants a little longer. And I think they come in white/ivory, nude and black so they can be quite inconspicuous under office clothes too. So much fun to tell everyone in one gathering!

NEL, I read Girlfriend's Guide also. It's a super quick read too, hope you like it. I totally know what you mean about being scared of M/S. I'm totally scared of it too. So far I've been OK (knock on wood). Don't sweat work too much. It'll be there when you get back. Plus you've got WAY more important things to concern yourself with. Hooray for darker Wondofo lines. Now, I read online that they'll start to lighten after your a few weeks along. So I'd either stop testing them, or be armed with knowing that and not freak out.

Marlie, Nope I also don't have sore boobs. My nipples are a little sensitive but mostly after a shower. Glad you have a little bit of relief from the nausea. You must be excited to hear back about the blood results, but so far things seem to be going pretty well. Good for you!

AFM: Not much in my neck of the woods. no real symptoms except all of a sudden I could really use a nap right now. But it could have more to do with the dog crying for breakie at 5:30AM, and me *just* hitting the gym, then wolfing down my lunch (sichuan green beans w/ground pork and brown rice). Man! I would so rock the nap right now... :snore: Other than that nothing new. I stopped temping and stopped testing. Now I'll just wait until our doctor appt.

I've got a Girls' Night on Thursday with my friends. Not sure how I'll hide the lack of booze. Probably just cop the "Early AM meeting with Europe" excuse. Why not right?

This is so exciting there's quite a bit of us in this thread.

~LC

Re:

Popping in to say a HUUUUUGE congrats to Liang, NEL and KRISSIE!!!

Krissie we were TTC together last spring and I was so hoping you would be back with news like this! And twins!

Happy and healthy 9 months to all you ladies, enjoy!!!

Re:

KRISSIE, yay congrats on the twins!!!

ParrotTULIP, are you having Twins too? :D

I just had twin boys! Can't wait to hear more!!!

Re:

Ladies, I am still here :) My ultrasound and hCG were all good yesterday. According to US dates that makes me 6 weeks 2 days today. It was too early to hear the heartbeat but I definitely SAW it and it was measured at 105bpm... the obstetrician-ultrasonographer who did the scan said in passing, "and it probably only started beating 2 days ago" and I just thought that was the most incredible thing... just miraculous!

I have my next scan at 8 weeks. I need to book a hospital and an obstetrician this week (eeeeek!).

I am so happy. Cautiously happy but just so happy! No nausea yet. Appetite is off though. hCG was 20-something thousand yesterday and obviously still on the rise, so I imagine I'll be feeling sick soon enough...

Re:

LC How about telling your girls you are doing a crazy cleanse on the advice of your accupuncturist to balance your chi or something 8)

marlie no sore boobs here in either pregnancy, don't worry about it!

Marlie, Pancake and LC, I know I said congrats in the TTC thread, but a big congrats again. Hopefully more of us in the TTC thread will be joining soon so this thread will be just as lively! :)

Krissie, after all you've been through I have no doubt you're expriencing some anxiety. A friend of mine who went through IVF said she spent the entire first trimester waiting for the other shoe to drop--she wishes she could have relaxed. I hope you are able to enjoy this without too much worry...as time goes on, I have no doubt it will be easier!

Pumpkin Pie and Brown_eyes, how are you ladies doing? So sorry to hear about the nausea, Brown_eyes. I've had a couple of friends who had all-day nausea...one claims she survived on sour patch kids.

RMFA, congrats on seeing the heartbeat, that must warm your heart!

Blackberry and PT, not sure if you ladies are still around or if you've moved onto the other thread, but sounds like your pregnancies are going well!

Just saying hello because it's Friday afternoon and I'm bored at work--I promise not to crash this thread before I'm even pregnant!

Hi NEL I have been watching this thread and TTC still but haven't been on. I have been pretty sick and haven't had the energy to post much.
Congrats by the way!

Re:

I just wanted to duck in a say congrats to all the newly prego ladies. I hope everyone a healthy, happy 9 months!
I suppose that since I moved into my second trimester today I should probably head over to the "more" pregnant thread. I am having a hard time with all this movement since I spent so much time in TTC and a few weeks in this one.

Re:

Dreamer: That's ***genius***!!!! I might need to bust that excuse out. What's even better is that half the girls we're having dinner with actually have done a couple of cleanses with us. So it's actually believable.

BB, move on over to the big preggo thread! We'll follow you along there too!! CONGRATS on the second tri!!!!! :appl: :appl: How are you feeling friend?

Pancake, hooray for no nausea! So wonderful that you got to see the heartbeat!! Those are some crazy high HcG numbers. Here's to hoping you're one of those lucky ladies that don't get morning sickness. If you are, just don't rub it in if the rest of us aren't.

Re:

I may have spoken too soon re the morning sickness. Distinct queasiness this morning, nothing too awful but I think I can feel it coming. Ugggghhhhhhh. But nothing really dampens the happiness of actually being pregnant! So many new faces in here - lovely to have so many around to share the journey :)
