"Just Barely" Pregnant PS''ers

Re:

S&I, so glad that the itching is subsiding and am really keeping my fingers crossed for you tomorrow! Hopefully your progesterone levels are high enough that you can stop the progesterone supplement and stop worrying about the itching all together!

Re:

MQ, it's good to know that you also take Zyrtec for your allergies. It is amazing what that little pill does for me. The last time I tried to go off of it in 2006, I ended up with an inner-ear infection. This time, I guess I ended up with the crazy itchies. Glad you are feeling well at 11 weeks! Did you have any other symptoms besides peeing a lot and being tired?

NEL, thanks for your support! And congrats on a great NT scan!

AFM, I finally got the courage to call my OB's office to ask about my results. The nurse had to call the lab and call me back though. But the good news is that my HCG went up to 1560 and my progesterone went up to 38.8!!! I asked her if I should stop taking the supplements, but she said that they usually just advise their patients to continue taking them until 12 weeks. I was SOOOOO scared that they were going to tell me that my HCG hadn't gone up enough. I know I still have a crazy long way to go, but I think I can enjoy my weekend now.

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

Re:

S&I - No other symptoms for me. I feel really good overall! I am really hoping that this isn't a "calm before the storm" and I get really sick or start feeling awful right when school starts. My mother never had trouble with nausea, but she did retain a LOT of water while preggo with me and my brother. Great news on your update from the doctor! Stick, little bean!

I spent my day hitting up all of my local stores that stock maternity clothing. First pregnancy, so I have never shopped for it before and had no idea what I would find in stock. I wanted to be prepared for where to go to purchase things for my back to school wardrobe now and later as the fall/winter and the bump progresses. The best selection and service in my immediate area was at Macy's! Not all Macy's stores have maternity wear, but this one carries a large range of sizes and included brands like A Pea in the Pod and Motherhood Maternity. I was pleasantly surprised to find a special dressing room complete with pretend baby bump try-on pillows in the section of the store set up for maternity clothes. They had lots of work separates and casual wear, and they are currently transitioning into Fall. The sales girl was amazing - she really knew her stock and took time to show me the best items and sizes to try on. I got a giggle out of the stupid pillow I wore to test drive a few outfits. I looked like I was smuggling a volleyball. I tried on work pants, jeans, a few tops, and a dress just to get a feel for size and fit. I will go back later when I am ready to buy. It's great that I have a Macy's charge card and get regular coupons - if I am allowed to use one on maternity wear, my purchase will be 20% off!

Re:

S&I, I'm so excited that your HCG and progesterone levels are high, that is fantastic! You must be feeling so much better now--I'm glad you found out yesterday so you can enjoy this weekend! It's a bummer you have to continue the supplements, but now that you've found a way to limit the itching, I guess it's not so bad. Woohoo for you!

Mannequin! Your Macy's sounds awesome with the fake bumps and everything. I JUST bought a maternity dress at Macy's last night. There is a Macy's about a block from my office that has A Pea in a Pod in it, and the one close to our house has a Motherhood Maternity. Do you think you'll buy a bunch of things at once (since you have to get ready for the school year) or do you think you'll buy a few things and add over time?

Re:

S&I, yay, so glad your results were good!

Mannequin, glad you've got a lot of good options for when you need maternity clothes. I just checked and the store locator says there's a Motherhood located in my closest Macy's (there wasn't when I was pregnant last time, but there was a Motherhood in the same mall). Also, I'm psyched because Ann Taylor Loft is selling maternity clothes again. That's my favorite store, and the first time I was pregnant they had decided to discontinue the line, boo. Now they've reintroduced it.

AFM, I think the dizziness is getting worse again. I've felt it coming on for the last several days. I see my GP on Monday for a rec for a new cardiologist. Hopefully it won't take too long to get in to see the next doctor. I've probably been overdoing it recently - took DD to an indoor play area (on foot) and over to a friend's house later, plus I cooked a meatloaf dinner that took almost two hours (need to stick to easy pasta dishes!).

I also went through my maternity clothes. I have mine from my first pregnancy, plus my SIL's and my sister's (although only a few of her favorite pieces because I wound up having to get most of my own wardrobe when she became unexpectedly pregnant with #3 a moth before I got pregnant). So I got the ones back from my friend who had borrowed them, and we got the rest down from the attic. I sorted them into "can wear now," "will wear later," "wrong season for this pregnancy," "will never wear, ick" (mostly SIL's stuff, hee hee), "will never wear, sigh" (the XSs I bought at the beginning of my first pregnancy before I quickly moved up to small and then medium), and a pile to give back to my friend. I also sorted my postpartum pants because I went from a 0 to a 10 last time, so I'm keeping the 10s, 8s, and 6s where I can get them easily and sending the 4s, 2s, and 0s up to the attic. (I was in the 2s when I got pregnant this time, but 6 weeks of being sedentary has definitely packed on the pounds again.)

So . . . it's a lot to keep track of! My weight doesn't fluctuate much when I'm not pregnant or getting back in shape after pregnancy, so I'm looking forward to a few years from now when I can clean house and get rid of all the extra clothes. I was able to make a big give-away pile of the maternity clothes that won't work and stuff in my closet that I haven't touched in years. My stomach was very flat before DD (sigh) and never bounced back entirely, so there are a lot of very straight tops that I won't wear now. Time to admit it and free up the space!

I'm also hoping I can buy very little maternity clothes wise this time around. I have jeans and work pants in all the sizes plus a bunch of hand-me-down long sleeve teeshirts and sweaters. Since I'm not working, my needs should be pretty minimal. I'm sure things will come up and I'll decide I need a certain color sweater to wear with a dress or a certain outfit for a special event, but I'd love to save that money and spend it on the new baby. Clearly I am well stocked in the maternity clothes department.

Well, I'm not sure if anyone needed an expose on my closet, but I'm having a dizzy episode and am stuck on the couch, so I've got to think of things to "do" to keep myself occupied. So thanks for giving me something to do!

Re:

MQ, thanks! I hope your lack of nausea continues throughout your entire pregnancy! My mom said she had M/S until about the 4th month for both me and my sister, so I have a feeling I will have it too. I've been getting emails from babycenter and whattoexpect.com about the inevitable M/S starting in Week 6. That's awesome that your Macy's has a great selection of maternity wear, as well as the bump pillow! And even better that you'll get 20% off everything.

NEL, thanks for checking in on us! I am pretty happy that I don't have to deal with the crazy itchies anymore.

PhG, so sorry about your dizziness! Hope everything is okay, and that you simply over-exerted yourself a little bit. Let your body rest a little! That's awesome that you've already sorted through all your maternity clothes.

AFM, I slept for almost 12 hours last night, and I took a 2-hour nap already! I almost feel like I could sleep all day, but I hate feeling so unproductive! I want to go find some preggo-safe facial cleansers (all of my stuff has the dreaded salicylic acid) and make-up. Anyone have any suggestions?

Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

Re:

Hi mommas-to-be! I am very nervously dipping my toe in here...

I took a few HPT over the weekend and got BFP's on all of them. We weren't actively TTC, more that we both really wanted a child, knew that we could manage if we fell pregnant now, and were being a bit careless with our birth control as a result

I saw the doctor today and had a blood test to confirm but have not got the results yet, but given the positive HPT, the fact that AF hasn't shown up after 35 days (and my cycles are 28-31 days max) I am fairly sure anyway

I am thirlled, but am terrified about telling my work and am feeling totally overwhelmed with how little I know about what I need to do next etc. I have so much to research!!

But I do have an initial question - for those of you who play/played sport - when did you stop playing? I play ultimate frisbee and played a game tonight. At one point in the game I was nearly sandwiched between two players on the other team, at another point the frisbee hit me hard in the ribs (I was looking the wrong way), at another point I was breathless and wheezing (I am a bit unfit at the moment). I am not sure whether it is safe to continue to play for the first few weeks or if I should give up straight away?

Re:

Bobbin, Congrats!!!! Have you *just* started playing ultimate? If you haven't then I think you should be OK. It's not a contact sport (on purpose), but you do need to listen to your body a lot more. As long as you're not debilitated from your 1st tri symptoms, you should keep doing what you're doing and when you get tired, sub out. I kept hitting the gym and even did some significant weight. Not as much as my max lifts, but still pretty up there. I did the same thing, started conservatively and listened to my body, didn't push it.

The only down side is, you might need to spill the beans to your team sooner than you'd like if they get "annoyed" that you keep subbing out. Just a thought.

Congratulations!!!!

~LC

Re:

bobbin, congrats on your multiple BFPs, and welcome! :wavey: When do you get your blood test results back? Sorry I'm not too much help about your ultimate frisbee question, but LC gave you some great advice about just listening to your body. I think I've read that there's a certain point in the pregnancy in which you would need to make sure that your body temp doesn't go too high, but I don't think that's a big concern this early on. If anything, ask your doctor when you get your results.

Re:

Bobbin, just to clarify also, you also should try to keep yourself active but not overworked. Example you dont' want to feel like your heart's beating out of your chest. It's OK to have an elevated heart rate, but if you're gasping for air and your chest is pounding, lie down and take a load off.

~LC

Re:

Welcome and congrats, Bobbin! :appl: The others have given good advice on your frisbee playing. You should still be able to play as long as you are careful and feel up to it. My doctor recommended that I stay at or under a certain heart rate for exercising while preggo. I wear a monitor when I run or work out to keep track.

NEL - I am glad you have some choices for maternity wear at your local Macy's. I saw a dress I want to get at mine in that section - sheer gray and black print with a liner underneath ($40). Looks great now with or without the dopey bump pillow. :wink2: I think I am going to invest in a few nice pairs of pants first and then build from there. Many of my pre-preggo tops still fit because my bust size has not increased. One thing to keep in mind according to my Macy's salesgirl is that much of the current fall and winter maternity clothing is in darker colors, with a lot of black and gray. She recommended buying some end of summer clearance tops for brighter colors to mix and match. They are lighter weight and good for layering as it gets cold.

PG - I hope your doctor's appointment goes well today! Thanks for the closet sneak peek. You sound very prepared! I am hoping I can borrow some clothing from some of the teachers at school who have been pregnant recently to add to what I will need to buy. I know I will have a wedding to attend right before Christmas when I am six months along, so I will probably need to invest in a holiday top or one nice dress depending on what goes well with the bump.

S&I - Your local Sephora may be able to give you some suggestions on skin care products to use. Sleep as much as you need to right now - you are in the early weeks of baking a little one! I took lots of naps at the beginning of the summer. INDULGE.

AFM - Getting ready to head off to the doctor's office for a checkup today. I am starting my 12th week. Had a busy weekend visiting with my family on Saturday, then on Sunday went to a pig roast with DH's family and a Maroon 5/Train concert. Bought a few clothing items this weekend while shopping with my mother. Kohl's had summer maternity wear on clearance and much of their misses clothing was on sale. I found two maternity tops I liked that I can wear and layer through the fall, and two misses tops that look like they should also fit well for a few months. Also got one other non-maternity shirt at Target that should be wearable for a while. I need to get some pants next. We had an extended power outage this weekend that made most of the food in the fridge questionable, so I threw everything out to be safe and had to grocery shop today. :(( Not my favorite method of cleaning out the fridge. Will check back in soon!

Re:

Bobbin, congrats!!!!! :appl: It's safe to continue being active at the same level as before, so the only question would be if it's a contact sport. I know people continue playing volleyball and sports like that. I guess the question is just your level of comfort because I suppose you could get knocked down.

Mannequin, sorry about the fridge! Glad you had a few good maternity pieces and options for the new few months.

I saw my regular doc today because the cardiologist has been so aloof, and the dizziness is getting bad again. He's just a great, hands-on doctor. He explained that the drug I'm taking (Lopressor/Metoprolol) does in fact lower blood pressure, which is the opposite of what I need, but that I can't take Florinef (a steroid), which is what would actually raise my BP, while pregnant. I was kind of hoping he'd just send me off to a new cardiologist, but he wanted to call the old one himself. Their office called me immediately with an appointment to see a different doctor in the practice tomorrow, so win/win. I'll be seen ASAP and not have to transfer my records/start over, but I'm not seeing the unhelpful head honcho guy any more. Then my regular doc called me tonight to follow up, and was surprised the original cardiologist hadn't called me himself -- apparently he'd said he would. So then the GP diplomatically said, yeah, he might be "academically interested" in my problem, but he didn't seem committed to actually getting to the bottom of it. Ugh, it makes me angry. So fine, you don't think you can treat me, but don't just say you'll call me with a diagnosis/plan the next day and then NEVER CALL, not even when I call with shortness of breath and request an appointment (they said it would take 6 weeks to get in!). Don't do nothing until I call the next week crying and demanding to know if you'll treat me, and then just give me a prescription without explaining what it does or how long I should expect to take it. How is that professional? It turns out he's the cousin of step-MIL's BFF, so I hope how much I think he sucks gets back to him. Step-MIL was like, yeah, I spent a weekend with him once, and, well . . .

So anyway, hopefully I'll have more insight tomorrow.

Re:

Hi Ladies, quick fly-by post, it is late and I am exhausted! I will go through and catch up with all of the posts eventually though!

Thanks for the advice LC! I have been playing ultimate for the better part of 8 years so my body is used to it, I am probably mainly concerned about getting my heart rate up to high/getting breathless, but also have some concerns about being bumped around (accidentally as ultimate is technically non-contact).

I am also really bad at making people go back on the field when they want a point off and I NEED a rest, I will just suck it up and play, but when it is not just me at risk..

Re:

Congrats Bobbin! Very excited for you. :appl:

Re:

MQ, thanks for suggesting Sephora. I was thinking of Whole Foods and places like that. So sorry about your fridge and having to restock it! How did your checkup go yesterday?

PhG, so sorry about your dizziness and non-responsive cardiologist! I hope the new guy is much better and more proactive about finding a solution.

bobbin, did you get your blood test results back yet?

AFM, just sitting tight here at 5W+5D, trying to patiently wait for my first prenatal appointment on Monday.

Re:

PG - I hope you have better luck with the next doctor. What a yucky appointment.

S&I - The waiting drives me crazy! Excited to hear how your visit goes.

AFM - Yesterday's checkup went well! I am just over 11 weeks along and working on week 12 now - almost done with the first trimester! Baby and I got a clean bill of health, and I got to see Baby again via ultrasound. Baby was less than an inch long at our last visit three weeks ago, and has grown to almost the size of a plum! Such a change. The picture on the monitor took my breath away - I have a little human inside me! The little heart was beating away and I could see some little limbs waving (Hi, Mom!). Baby is developing on schedule and looks healthy. We have another appointment in a month (Sept. 19th), and at that time, I can schedule an anatomy ultrasound for three weeks later. So right around October 10th, we'll find out if Baby is a boy or a girl! :) Attaching Baby's picture from the appointment. I picked up three more tops to add to my back to school wardrobe after I left the doctor's office, too. I need to get everything together for a picture post. =)

Today, I was at my middle school to begin preparing for the upcoming school year and was able to tell a lot of coworkers about the pregnancy, including my principal! The staff members I talked to are very excited. I have to figure out when to announce to my students, but it is nice to be coming back to work with such a positive response to the baby news.

Re:

Mannequin : Thanks for the congrats! Maternity shopping sounds exciting! Especially being able to try on a 'bump.' I don't really know when to start shopping for m aternity clothes but I can't wait!Does that make me weird? Hooray for almost being in your second tri! Sorry about all the spoilt food, not something I would want to be dealing with AT ALL.

Phg: Thanks for the congrats! I am so sorry you are going through all of those health problems. Do the doctors still think it will get better in the 2nd tri? I have all my fingers and toes crossed for you. Sorry to hear about your crappy experience with the doctor too. I HATE bad service, and when you are a doctor it is even more important to make sure you follow up for your patients!

S&I: I am the same at the moment- I am getting home from work and just collapsing on the couch! I went to the doctor today to get my test results back. I walked in and before I had even sat down she said: “Well you are definitely pregnant!” :appl: It was funny though, she has written on the test paperwork that I was unsure of the date AF started last, when I gave her the exact date, and she has referred me through for a 6 week dating ultrasound, which I think, in Australia, isn't normally done unless requested. I am not complaining though! She said my HCG levels were consistent with being 5 weeks pregnant.

HOT: Thanks :D

Pancake: Whereabouts in Australia do you live? I'm from Adelaide but am living in Brisbane :wavey: And did I read correctly that you are an Australian doctor? My GP was asking whether I wanted to go private or public for the birth. I am leaning towards private as I get continuity of care from the same obstetrician (unless they are unavailable for the birth) but I am just so confused about which would be better. I have googled a bit to see other people's point of view and all I can really find is a lot of people pushing a homebirth/natural drug-free birth agenda screaming “Obstetricians are the devil, they will cut you open and rip that baby out as soon as look at you” Or in other words, they are claiming that it is very difficult to have a vaginal birth if you use an obstetrician. Do you have any insight into this?

AFM: As I mentioned, I have had my pregnancy confirmed by my doctor, and the normal screening tests were done for immunisations etc and all was fine. I don't really have many symptoms at the moment, my boobs are a bit tender, I have moments of feeling yucky and I am tired, but overall am fine.

Re:

MQ, I am the most impatient person ever, so all this waiting has been pretty hard for me! I can totally see in the ultrasound pic how your baby is turning into a human! That's just so awesome all that is happening while baby is still only the size of a plum! Did you mention whether or not you were going to do the NT scan around 12 weeks?

bobbin, well - official congrats to you then! :appl: :appl: :appl: You must only be a few days behind me. How exciting! When do you go in for your 6 week dating ultrasound? I also pretty much konk out as soon as I get home from work. My bedtime has already moved up by at least an hour this past week.

AFM, I'm at 5W+6D along. Not much going on except for being tired, peeing a lot, sore boobs, and feeling a little uncomfortable after meals. I'll be 6W+4D at our first ultrasound. Do you ladies think we'll be able to see anything?

Re:

S&I, my first ultrasound this time was at 7w5d, and it was definitely just a blob. The gestational sac was visible (I thought it was the head!) but the important part was seeing the heart beat and that there WAS a baby in there. I'm not sure about 6 weeks but I figure they wouldn't have scheduled one at that time if they thought it was too early to see anything.

Mannequin, glad you got to tell people the news! That's always fun. And it's also nice to get to see the baby. Hi cutie!

We got to see our LO today too. I went in for my NT scan (I was supposed to drink 32 ounces an hour before . . . is that even possible? I must have a small bladder. I drank about 16 ounces and had to pee so bad. The technician congratulated me on a good job with the bladder so I'm glad I didn't try to drink more.). Baby was bopping around, waving arms, just being generally cute. We don't get the results for a few days, but the technician basically said the nuchal fold didn't look abnormal but she's not a doctor and it's not a complete test without the bloodwork too. But I took that as reassuring - I figure she just doesn't say anything if it looks abnormal.

As for my other issues, I have been diagnosed with POTS syndrome. Apparently at my first visit to the unhelpful cardiologist, my pulse went from 60 to 100 upon standing, and at my visit with the new cardiologist yesterday, my pulse rose a lot upon standing even though I'm on a beta blocker. Thanks for not sharing any of this with me, stupid original doctor! But the new doc was great - she spent over half an hour with me, said she knew this was hard on me and handed me a tissue when that got me choked up. She has a plan for how to treat this (usually a steroid, Florinef, is used, but it's a no-no in pregnancy). Right now I'm taking only half as much of the beta blocker (only at night) because it seemed like it was causing me to get dizzy upon exertion. Two months ago I could run 5 miles, and now I get dizzy walking one block. But even in the worst days a month ago when I was on the IV, I wouldn't get dizzy upon exertion, so I think it's a side effect of the beta blocker. And she is going to hook me up with a physical therapist so I can build up a tolerance to standing.

Anyway, to make a long story short, I now have a doctor I like and trust. When I saw the OB today, she said the cardiologist had called her yesterday to discuss my treatment. Such an improvement over El Jerko! I can understand that I was outside his realm of expertise, but that doesn't excuse him from not going over my results, not calling when he said he would, not responding when I called complaining of new serious symptoms, etc. From the way he treated me, you'd think I was some kind of hysterical hypochondriac, yet every other doctor has treated my condition like it's extreme and needs immediate attention.

Re:

Just popping my head in and ooooooh, new BFP! Congratulations Bobbin!

S&I, I'm glad things have calmed down for you! I had my first scan at what turned out to be 6w1d, and I could see the sac, the embryo (blob) and heartbeat (pulsating sliver inside blob). I also saw my corpus luteum which I thought was kind of cool. Excited for you!

PG, hallelujah for finding a cardiologist you have a rapport with and actually knows how to communicate! I'm sorry it was such a long and torrid road to get there... but phew, there you are! Squeeee for your NT scan and active little bubba!

Mannequin, look at that little person in there!!!!! So exciting!!! You should think about graduating to the big preggo thread soon...

Bobbin, I'm in Melbourne and I am indeed a doctor but am in paediatrics. I have elected to go private for the flexibility and continuity it gives me with my antenatal care, plus the hospital facilities around the time of birth. Re caesarean rates etc, I think you need to shop around a bit for the right obstetrician. I think it would be fair to say that MOST obstetricians are NOT scalpel-happy, but part of finding an obs that you like is to sit down and have a frank chat about these things. I have no intention at all of having a Caesarean unless absolutely necessary but am comfortable that my obstetrician would be upfront about this. Talk to friends and workmates about their experiences and maybe get some recommendations? Ditto with hospital choice. It's always a good starting point. I assume that Brissie will be similar to Melbourne in that they expect you to book an obstetrician ridiculously early (I booked at 7 weeks and only got into the one I wanted because of who my referral came from).

Re:

PhG, I am really hoping that we can see/hear the heartbeat on Monday, but am trying to tell myself that it might be a little too early so I don't automatically freak out if we don't. Not sure how well that's working out in my head. So sorry that you've been through so much with the unhelpful cardiologist, but I'm glad that you finally have one that you get along with and who has been able to diagnose you correctly. Continued dust that you start feeling better soon! Yay for seeing the LO, and for good NT scan results. Hope your bloodwork results in super low risks!

pancake, thanks for popping back in here and telling your story about your first ultrasound! It is giving me hope that we should be able to see something on Monday. I also want to see if they'll be able to tell which side I Oed from, since I had plenty of cramps on my right side early on.

AFM, I had a dream last night that the doctor told me I was actually over 7 weeks along, and the ultrasound pics were showing a real baby with a face already. Also, I might be having my first feelings of preggo nausea today at exactly 6 weeks along. My morning calcium pill felt like it wanted to come back out this morning, while I was driving to work. I'm muching on some goldfish now to see if it helps any.

Re:

S&I, aw, a baby with a face! That would be really cute! Unfortunately, the faces in the ultrasounds just look like Skeletor from He-Man. The first time I saw my DD turn toward us, I was like, "Ah! What is that thing?!" We saw the Skeletor face again yesterday.

So, I just got the NT scan results . . . all good! My OB has made everything automated, so I got this message on the "online portal." At first I thought it just said, "We recieved [sic] the results from your NT testing and it was negative," and I was like, "That's it? 'Negative' is good and 'positive' is bad, right?" Then I scrolled down and saw everything from the note the doctor wrote asking them to send me the results, to my ovary sizes (said both are normal, but one is almost twice as big as the other . . . am I just funky like that, or does it have to do with which one I ovulated from last?). The chances of downs and trisomy 13/18 are "1:>10,000." So I'm happy with that. I like having all the data because I'm pretty sure with my first pregnancy, they just called and said, "Your results were good" and I never knew the actual percentages.

That's wonderful that your NT results came back with such low risks! One less thing to worry about! Are you feeling any better today? Not sure about your one ovary being twice as big as the other. Did they ever show you your corpus luteum and tell you which ovary you Oed from? I'm totally going to ask at my ultrasound appointment on Monday if they can see mine. I want to confirm whether or not the early pain that I was feeling on my right side was because that's the side I Oed from. One of my ovaries is really close to my uterus, and the other is really far away - so I guess I'm funky too!

Re:

S&I, no, but I had a pap smear done right before I ovulated the month before I got pregnant, and the doctor said I was going to ovulate from the left, so I'm guessing I ovulated from the right this time. Unless I'm wrong about which month I had the pap. The right one was the bigger one during the NT scan. So will you ask at your appointment if the bigger means that's the one you ovulated from? I'm mainly just curious. ;))

ETA: OK, yes, I just checked my records, and the pap (ovulated left) was in May, and then I got pregnant in June.

Re:

PG- I am glad you had a great scan! Skeletor face, LOL. We opted not to have an NT scan, but I will be getting a fetal EKG around week 20 to check for a congenital heart defect.

S&I - You probably will only see the heartbeat on the screen on Monday. I have not been able to hear it yet after two appointments, but it is visible on the screen. How are you feeling?

Bobbin - How exciting that the doctor confirmed everything for you! Hope you have a good first tri without a lot of yucky symptoms.

AFM- No major news here. Spending a lot of time in my classroom preparing for the school year and working on rental stuff = eating out more = restaurant food not agreeing with me. Thankfully, nothing too awful. Experiencing lack of appetite again this week maybe because of that. Week 12 is approaching, almost time for another bump sticker shot. Family reunion this weekend, with some extended relatives who will be very excited to see us and my parents to offer congratulations in person. I am going to hop over to the big thread soon, but will keep checking up on everyone here.

Re:

Hi everyone! I just got a BFP on Friday after having a m/c in early July....which means I'm somewhere around 4w2d, give or take. I'll wait for the scan to tell me. Scans know things that we mere humans cannot fathom. So do sticks. Sticks that we pee on.

Can you tell I just threw a birthday party for my boys yesterday, and in the process may have lost some necessary brain cells?

I'm going to call the dr. tomorrow to get my a$$ crammed into her crazy busy schedule in about 4-5 weeks. So for now I just am kinda dazed and ready for this ride...

I am doing some fight choreography for a show and am trying to figure out how to take it easy learning and teaching this stuff. There are no jazz hands in stage fights.

Ok, seriously, I'm loopy!

Re:

PhG, ooh that's interesting! I'll definitely ask if the entire ovary gets bigger when you O from that side.

MQ, can they still count the heart rate if they can only see it, versus hearing it? I'm so hoping that I can see the tiny heart beating. I think that would really calm my nerves down a lot. Sorry the restaurant food isn't sitting well with you and baby, but congrats on getting so close to 12 weeks! Can't wait to see your bump sticker shot!

jas, congrats again! :appl: :appl: :appl: Hope the big party was a success! Are you going to try to get some early testing done because of your recent M/C? about the jazz hands!

AFM, ultrasound tomorrow! Eeek, I am so scared and hopeful at the same time! Will keep you ladies posted!

Re:

Hope everyone is safe and sound after Irene blew over the east coast!

Just wanted to update that we had our first ultrasound today. I was surprised that it was done through the belly instead of vaginally.
Baby is in the uterus and measuring a little petite at 5w+6d (3mm from crown to rump) instead of 6w+4d according to FF. The doc said that it was still way in the margin of error, so everything looked great. We saw the flickering of the tiny heartbeat, that measured a heart rate of 111-113. That sounded a little low to me, but they reassured me that anything above 100 is good at this early stage.

Here are a couple of our baby's first pics!

The prenatal appointment with the RN this afternoon went well. It was basically an overview of the maternal handbook that they gave me, and a question/answer session. I have my next appointment with my actual OB on 9/8, where she'll do my exam and pap smear.
