Re: Re:
Thank you! I am so sorry about your loss. I know it must have been and must still be so hard.
I was on methimazole for a hair under 3 years and only very briefly did it regulate my thyroid. I had bloodwork done every two weeks starting back in June when I did my last taper down off the methimazole. My doctor told me he did not believe the bc pill had anything to do with anything but agreed to give me a month off it to try. When I first came off the methimazole I spiked really high. My tsh dropped to 0.0002 and my free T3 and T4 went super high. I agreed that after the month trial period being off the bc pill I would radiate it if it did not improve. Within two weeks my levels became boarder line and within the month I became completely in normal ranges. I have to see him now every 6 weeks through the pregnancy to make sure it doesn't flare again and he's retesting me for the antibodies since he said it's just not normal to see bc cause or stop Graves. I asked him if it was possible it just caused hyperthyroidism and not Graves and he said he tested me in the beginning for the antibodies which are what differentiate hyper from Graves and they were present. He said he has never heard of any BC pill causing or worsening thyroid issues. I told him to get online and look up "Yaz birth control Graves disease" and he would.
I test every other week now for my thyroid and he said if it goes hyper again I'll have to go on PTU instead of methimazole as it's safer for the baby and that Graves/hyperthyroid left untreated will either lead to a miscarriage or the baby being hyperthyroid at birth and needing the same meds I am on. At least that was my endo's opinion.
So as far as changes I've made, going off birth control pill seemed to be the only one I needed to make. I am interested in seeing if the Graves antibodies are still present when I go back to see him. It makes me wonder if I do indeed have Graves but the birth control pills aggravated it and made it become active? My OB seems to think that's a definite possibility. Like any auto immune disorder they can be active or lay dormant.
I'm sending lots of dust your way for you and your miracle!

CONGRATS stepcutgirl! What a miracle! Sending lots of sticky dust your way and hope all goes well. I too have Graves disease and recently had a MC, but back trying again and very hopeful as Dr thinks the Graves and MC were unrelated. Do you take anti-thyroids? What changes have you made thus far?
