Just popping in to say hiii....

CONGRATS stepcutgirl! What a miracle! Sending lots of sticky dust your way and hope all goes well. I too have Graves disease and recently had a MC, but back trying again and very hopeful as Dr thinks the Graves and MC were unrelated. Do you take anti-thyroids? What changes have you made thus far?

Thank you! I am so sorry about your loss. I know it must have been and must still be so hard. ;(

I was on methimazole for a hair under 3 years and only very briefly did it regulate my thyroid. I had bloodwork done every two weeks starting back in June when I did my last taper down off the methimazole. My doctor told me he did not believe the bc pill had anything to do with anything but agreed to give me a month off it to try. When I first came off the methimazole I spiked really high. My tsh dropped to 0.0002 and my free T3 and T4 went super high. I agreed that after the month trial period being off the bc pill I would radiate it if it did not improve. Within two weeks my levels became boarder line and within the month I became completely in normal ranges. I have to see him now every 6 weeks through the pregnancy to make sure it doesn't flare again and he's retesting me for the antibodies since he said it's just not normal to see bc cause or stop Graves. I asked him if it was possible it just caused hyperthyroidism and not Graves and he said he tested me in the beginning for the antibodies which are what differentiate hyper from Graves and they were present. He said he has never heard of any BC pill causing or worsening thyroid issues. I told him to get online and look up "Yaz birth control Graves disease" and he would.

I test every other week now for my thyroid and he said if it goes hyper again I'll have to go on PTU instead of methimazole as it's safer for the baby and that Graves/hyperthyroid left untreated will either lead to a miscarriage or the baby being hyperthyroid at birth and needing the same meds I am on. At least that was my endo's opinion.

So as far as changes I've made, going off birth control pill seemed to be the only one I needed to make. I am interested in seeing if the Graves antibodies are still present when I go back to see him. It makes me wonder if I do indeed have Graves but the birth control pills aggravated it and made it become active? My OB seems to think that's a definite possibility. Like any auto immune disorder they can be active or lay dormant.

I'm sending lots of dust your way for you and your miracle!

Re:

stepcutgirl - Welcome!!! Wow what a little miracle you have!! Hoping everything continues to progress and your baby continues to grow! How lucky for you to have access to an ultrasound machine!

Afm, just got in my hotel room for the week. Traveling for work and being away from home is SO not for me. I don't know how people do it! I totally bawled when I left DH today...what a mess!

I hit 9 weeks yesterday! My baby has officially moved from an embryo to a fetus  Still feeling great. I had to try on my dress pants for work this week (My work is just casual wear, so I've been wearing jeans) and they're all tight around the waist! Guess I will still be rocking the rubberband trick with these too. My fav pair of jeans are now almost too tight. I've been using the rubberband around the button, but they're still a little tight and it makes my zipper come down  Should be interesting, I have to eat out for every meal this week! Anyway, back to watching the game GO RAVENS!!!!

Hi everyone,

I'm just jumping on the JBP wagon. I'm 15DPO and this morning the doctor said I'm 4 weeks pregnant. Not much in terms of symptoms yet; just frequent urination and cramps.

How's everybody else doing?

Just saw your post in TTC. Yay!! I think our due dates are the same. I'm either July 14 or 16. :)

So, this weekend at the mall I saw an unusually high amount of very pregnant women. Honestly, it freaked me out just a little. Before it was always "someday I'll be pregnant." But now it's sinking in that in 8 months or so I'll be that extremely pregnant woman. It's also taking some adjustment to realize I can't do or eat whatever I want...it's interesting having to reset my brain. I love Tazo Calm tea, particularly before bed. I went to have some last night and thought I'd better make sure that it's safe. Turns out it has licorice root in it which is a no-no. Sigh.

Does anyone have a good list of all of the stuff we aren't supposed to eat? There are so many lists on google, so if anyone has a good one (maybe one from a doctor) I'd love to see it. I don't have my first appointment until 12/6.

Re:

Stepcut, congratulations on your miracle baby! Lots and lots of sticky dust to you!!

mayerling, congratulations! I saw your post in ttc!

amc, your wedding is 3 weeks away? I hope your morning sickness hit you! I'm sure nobody will notice if you pretend to take a sip for the toast. The problem I see is people coming up to your table or when you make your rounds, they'll want to have a toast as well.
As for doctors, I'm sure you can email them with questions like stuff to avoid.

missy, aww, I'm sure your DH misses you too. Have fun!

Sticky dust everyone. Have a great week!

Re:

Congrats and welcome stepcut!

Congrats again mayerling!

This thread is really hopping lately! Love seeing all the new additions!

Wow, amc, I had never heard of licorice being a food to avoid! Acutally, come to think of it, I didn't get any kind of list of foods to avoid from my midwife, maybe I'll have to ask about that next time. I've given up booze and have one caffeinated drink a day tops, but other than that haven't worried about anything.

China, I haven't actually felt any extra tiredness from the unisom, not sure if the dose is low enough that it doesn't impact me beyond the slight fatigue I'm feeling already or what. I take 1/2 a pill at night before I go to bed, along with about 30 mg of B6 ( I split a 100 mg pill into 3). I take another piece of the B6 with breakfast, and then take another B6 and unisom in the late afternoon at work.

Yep! Three weeks from yesterday. So basically prime morning sickness time. My OB called in some anti-nausea meds for me to take. It's interesting, I felt pretty barfy from about 9DPO to maybe 13DPO, but feel fine now. Seeing how the BCP made me sick, I am fully expecting for morning sickness to show up eventually. At least I'll be on a cruise so I can blame it on motion sickness.

So, I just reread my post. I hope you understood that I meant "your morning sickness DOESN'T hit you". *head thump*

Re:

Choro- Yep, I just used a rubber band that goes in my hair. Loop one end around the button, the other through the buttonhole, then just wrap around the button as many times as you can. The better thing to get is a bella band or belly band. It's like a small tube of lycra that goes over the tops of your jeans or pants. You can leave the pants unbuttoned, but the band keeps the pants up and everything smooth. Sort of like the tops of mat jeans, but you can use it to stretch our your regular clothes while you are in the inbetween phase. Target has them, so does all the mat stores or online I'm sure. Don't feel bad- I never had a "magic moment" at the first u/s, esp with my first kid. Too surreal and it doesn't look like anything. The next u/s will blow you away with how much it looks like a baby. I don't think I had many "magic moments", until the 20 week u/s which was pretty amazing. And just to warn you, I didn't have a gushing magic moment when my son was born either. Some do, but a lot don't, it doesn't mean you are a bad mom. Those moments will come, I promise!

Stepcut- Wow, what a story. WELCOME! :wavey: Will be rooting for you every step of the way!

Steph- Thanks for the info on the B6/Unisom. Will definitely try it out!

AMC- I like safefetus.org for medicine and stuff. I usually just consult babycenter.com, they have a pretty good list. If you sign up, they send you weekly emails telling you how big your baby is, what's developing that week, etc. Like I am 11w6d and my baby is the size of a fig. :)) I also have an app on my phone for that site. Generally though, no alcohol, limit caffeine. Stay away from deli meats and hot dogs unless you are absolutely sure it's been refrigerated properly and/or you eat it steaming hot. (Ewww). Unpastuerized cheese is a no-no (unless you are French :cheeky:). Supposedly no sushi (the raw fish part) or smoked salmon. Tuna is ok, but limit to 1x a week due to mercury. I tend to be pretty strict for the first trimester, then take it as it goes from then on. No ibuprofren (so no advil or motrin) but Tylenol is ok. Hope that helps! Oh and yes, herbal teas can have weird things in them, so always check first. Oh, no massages for first trimester and supposedly no hot baths during pregnancy at all. I did take baths, but tried to make them not super hot, which I hate. :(sad

AFM- I pulled something in my lower back/upper butt and am in serious pain. Can't bend over, lift anything, haven't been sleeping b/c it hurts so badly. I remember having sciatic nerve pain with my first, but it was lower in my butt and just mildly annoying- this is worse. Trying to figure out what to do. Can't take advil, but OB cleared me for a massage or acupuncture. I totally forgot about these weird things that start happening to you. Get ready ladies. Your body is no longer your own. :cheeky:

Thank you!
What's the deal with the no massages? I bought a groupon for a facial/massage combo.I had the facial yesterday (I did tell her I was pregnant so she didn't use any essential oils) and my massage is in 2 weeks, right before the wedding. The lady who di my facial said to just mention that I was pregnant on the day of the massage. I knew about the bath thing and am suped bummed. I love HOT showers and baths so I guess I'll need to crank down the heat a bit.

Re:

Hi ladies!!! :wavey:

I'm cautiously dipping my toe in here. Got my BFP on early Saturday morning (like at 3:30 when DH got up to feed the kid, I couldn't wait any longer!) and my EDD is 7/15. Even though I'm still totally SHOCKED that we're knocked up, I just knew it must be true because I started getting signs on Friday. My lunch made me want to gag (a hot dog no less), I developed super smell, felt crampy for a few days, got super gassy, sore boobs, and felt like going to bed (not just a nap) at about 4:30 in the afternoon! There was no way to ignore those signs!! I had pretty bad MS last time around that didn't hit until a little later, but I'm worried it's going to hit really early this go round. I nearly threw up changing a poopy diaper this morning. As in, I hadn't even taken LO's pajamas off yet and the smell made me sick. Oh boy am I in for it!! DH is gone this week too so it's not like I can avoid the poopy diapers either (or the cat litter for that matter... :knockout: ).

On top of that, my baby turns one today!! :appl: One year ago I was being tortured at the hospital, lol!! :wink2:

Re:

Congrats Kunzite! :appl: That was fast. ;)) And happy birthday to your little man! The being preggo with a toddler thing is a whole other ball game. We can commiserate. Hope the m/s stays far, far away!

AMC- Well, it's not an outright NEVER to massages, but most places won't do them in the first trimester, and some won't do them at all without a doctor's note. I think places that specialize in prenatal massages are probably ok. I'm getting one tomorrow for my pulled butt muscle or whatever, but it's at a place that specializes in prenatal massages and my OB ok'd it. As for the baths, I like 'em HOT too. I take them, just less hot.

Re:

Wow! So much action over here!

I'm tentatively peeking in over here (again). I got a faint positive HPT today but have no clue when I ovulated. Based on the faintness of the test, I think I'm roughly 10 DPO. EARLY! That puts ovulation right around Friday, October 28th... 15 dpo! I've been ovulating later in my cycle, so that came as a bit of a surprise.

No real symptoms except tiredness (time change?) and achy breasts.

I'm feel guilty that I'm not that enthusiastic or excited over this BFP, but I think it's good to keep a bit of an emotional distance. As time goes on I'll start to enjoy it more. Ohhh the roller coaster of TTC!

Re:

PilsnPinky! I saw that you had posted and I thought.. could she be.. I hope so! I am so thrilled and excited for you! Although I do understand your anxiety and hesitation about becoming excited. I am sending truckloads of positive thoughts and sticky dust to you!

Yay!

Re:

amc, maybe we have a different due date because of a different CD1 or a different O date? CD1 for me was 11 October, and FF told me I ovulated on 23 October. Is it the same for you? Also, I kind of have a similar problem regarding the cruise. I don't drink so that's not an issue but I'm taking a cruise in a few weeks and I'm already dreading the possibility of morning sickness.

Re:

Welcome PPM! :wavey: I am in the same boat as you. I just can't get excited or start planning or thinking about names or anything until I feel safe. It's different once you've had a loss, but we'll get through it. I am 12w tomorrow and I am still cautious and taking it one day at a time. A few close family members and friends know and they ask me questions about names or where we will put baby #2 and do I want a boy or a girl, and I'm like, no idea. Other than discussing how I'm feeling physically, I can't go beyond that. But chances are all will be fine, and I'm wishing you a happy and uneventful nine months!

I ovulated on the 22nd. So we should still be only one day apart. So weird!

Re:

Well, unfortunately I think my stay here was short-lived. My temp went WAY down today, to just above my cover line. I'm 17DPO. I took my last FRER and it was very clearly negative. It looks like I'm having an early MC. I have a call in to the doc to get a blood test.

amc, I'm so sorry to hear this...

So sorry to hear your news AMC. You are in my thoughts.

Re:

Hi ladies-

I am joining you over here in JBP! I got a BFP this morning, so am cautiously moving over to this thread. I did test early (period would be due 11/12), so I am cautiously optimistic!

Question though....when did (or when will you) all see your doctors first? I called my doctor today and they told me I need to wait until 7 weeks, so my appointment isnt until 12/5! That seems soooo far away to me! I was going to wait to tell my family until my doctors appointment, but I cant fathom waiting until then to tell my mom.

Is it normal to wait that long?

Welcome and congratulations NF! I saw my midwife for the first time at 6w5d. My OB/GYN, who I considered seeing but ultimately cancelled since I liked the midwife so much won't see first time patients until 8w. So I think it's totally normal if you are a patient with no history of issues. But it's weird, isn't it? You're just sitting there pregnant and they just believe you and trust that it's moving along ok! Actually, I still feel that way since all I got at my appointment was a packet of paperwork and a bunch of questions.

ETA, I told my parents before that appointment. I couldn't imagine keeping it from them and even if something went wrong I would want their support.

Re:

Well, AF showed up, so I'm back in the TTC group. At least I know I can get pregnant pretty easily, so that gives me hope that I'll be back here soon. Good luck to you all!

Re:

amc, I saw your post on TTC. So sorry.

NakedFinger, Congratulations! I think the problem is that they can't tell if anything is wrong without a heartbeat. If something bad happens there's nothing they can do about it other than diagnose the problem. I told my mom before my appointment because like Steph, I would have wanted her support. They told me to call immediately if I have bleeding + cramping though.

Re:

amc - I'm so sorry to hear that :(sad Have a drink (or two, or three) on your cruise!!! Hugs, lady.

China - I'm already starting to get a dose of how different things are going to be this go 'round. O woke up screaming last night and since I'm the only one home I had to go in and pat his bottom. Because of the insane bloat I have going on already (and the fact that I'm a shorty) it was really hard! I felt like I was putting all of my weight against the crib on my mid-section. I understand why you would feel hesitant to start planning. We usually think of things in the more general sense and have been talking about names forever. I very much look forward to hearing what you eventually throw around for a boys name. We can't seem to come up with anything to go with our little Oliver. Hopefully, you'll come up with something great!

PPM - Welcome! I understand why you're nervous. I've never had a loss, but I'm super nervous so far about this pregnancy. I shared in the NB thread that my mom had a loss between her pregnancies and I can't shake it out of my head that it means I will too. I know that's not super rational, but it does make me want to try and stay emotionally detached for awhile.

NF - Welcome! Yep, totally normal. My OB last time wouldn't see me until I was between 8-9 weeks. I haven't even bothered to call my new OB at this point, actually now that I think about it, I haven't even picked an OB at my new practice yet. I suppose I should get on that in the next few weeks! There is just so little to see and do this early that an early appointment wouldn't accomplish anything. If things start to go wrong there isn't anything they can do even if you're seeing them, you know? So for the first few months it's just waiting and hoping!!

Re:

Sorry again, AMC :((

Welcome, NF, and congrats! That was quick!

I am feeling like crud today. Combination of trying to give up coffee (unsuccessful) and feeling bad about recent weight gain (100% unrelated to being KTFU.... more related to me not getting my lazy a$$ to the gym). I'm about to throw a pity party and then get over it before DH gets home.

In other news, got a BFP on a digital today! Woo! My hcg levels are increasing, at least for now. I'll take what I can get.

Re:

NF- Welcome! :wavey: It's very normal to have to wait. Seems frustrating but if you went in this early, most likely they won't be able to see anything on the u/s, which would freak you out, and wouldn't be able to hear the HB, which would also make you worry. Nothing to really do at this point, but assume you are pregnant and all will be great!

Kunzite- I hear you. I pulled a muscle and now can't put my O down in his crib and it's a major PITA. I will definitely help think of names to go with Oliver! It's weird how now any name has to fit with the one you've already got.

PPM- This will be your first baby, right? I hear you on the caffeine. I can easily switch to decaf, but have had some wicked headaches and cravings for Dr. Pepper. My OB said a little caffeine is ok, and in fact said to have some if I have a headache since I can't take advil, etc. I was pretty strict about no caffeine in the first trimester with my first pregnancy, though I didn't stress if I had a normal cup or two on the weekends. This go round I am admittedly less strict, but definitely keeping it way under the recommended allowance. All that to say, I feel your pain!

AFM- Had a massage yesterday that was heavenly. It's defintely a pulled muscle rather than my sciatic nerve. Feels a lot better, but still a bit sore and still can't bend over. FYI, you CAN get massages in your first trimester, but it has to be with someone that is highly experienced with preggos as there are trigger points you want to avoid in your first tri.

12 weeks today! Growing a baby lime this week.

Re:

Hi everyone :-) Just checking in.

China - that massage sounds heavenly, although the sciatic pain does not!

PPM - Congrats on the digital test :-) Always nice to see it in writing, isn't it? I'm with you on the weight gain. Prior to getting the BFP I was on a low-to-no carb diet (I've always been a carb-loader) and consumed very little dairy. As soon as I found out I was preggo, I started back up with both (since carbs are really important during this time and they are all I can even fathom eating!).

So I've definitely put on wait in my belly area and now I'm worried people can tell! Arg. I'm only about 8 weeks so I don't want ppl figuring it out quite yet, kwim?

NF - congrats and welcome! I think the wait for the appt is normal. I had to go in a bit earlier because the O/B required it before they would book my 3 month appt.

Re:

Hi ladies,

How's everyone doing?

At 4w3d, I can safely say I don't have much in terms of symptoms; my cramps stopped on Monday, and the only thing still around is the incessant peeing.

Tomorrow I have my first antenatal appointment. I saw the doctor on Monday but she did nothing other than take my word for it about being pregnant, and booking me in for a 30-min antenatal appointment tomorrow. I'm pretty sure they won't actually examine me tomorrow (I say 'they' because I don't know which doctor it'll be - over here you see whoever's available on the day); they'll probably just go over my history, give me advice on what to eat/drink/etc., and book me in for future appointments. But even this is better than nothing.
