It''s a dark area in the stone that resembles a bowtie (boy wasn''t that helpful?? haha) I believe it has something to do with light refraction, but I''m still new at all of this and I''ve heard it''s hard to avoid (not impossible) with pears and ovals (my 2 favorites).

These pictures don''t show it too well, but I could see it outside. (these are my first attempts at diamond pics!) Maybe I''m freaking myself out too!

I really don''t know much about pears, but I think it looks pretty good! The only thing that concerns me is that it looks kinda hazy/cloudy in the first pic -- but that could just be photography. Do you see any of that when you look at it?

You might try starting a thread over in RockyTalky and you''ll probably get more input!

sk8rjen, I know nothing about pears, so I won't give you any advice. I think Rocky Talk will be the best option, but they will likely ask for more pictures. The pics you took already look pretty nice to me!!!

OK, those were my first attempt at pics and I definitely need to be steady. To *me* the diamond is so clear and sparkly and beautiful. But as I said, my basis of comparison is weak. I am gonna go try to take a few more pics and see if they turn out better

Amy, here''s a pic of a bad bowtie on a pear.

Most pears (and fancy cuts in general, because they are not uniformly symmetrical in shape) will have some extent of bowtie in certain lighting conditions but it''s the really proncounced kind, like above, that you want to avoid.

By now you''ve been to RaockyTalk, but FWIW I''m getting a halo setting. 1.5 pts on the eternity band and matching wedding eternity band, either half or 3-quarter points on the halo.
