Yesterday morning at work 2 people were made redundant and 2 people were given leave with pay until further notice (they have to use their own annual leave) to be reviewed in the new year. There was a team of 8 core staff, 2 sales reps and 2 R & D guys, now there are 6 core staff, 1 sales rep, and 1 R & D guy.
It was very hard news and I am very sad to see them go (the staff on annual leave might not come back), its my friends and collegues, and a terrible time of year.
So that makes me worried about how they are going to cover the office needs over the next month or so, D and I have put thousands of dollars into our holiday at the end of the year, and a good $5000 + of that is non refundable, and our insurance will not cover cancellation except under sickness, accident or disaster.
It has not been mentioned yet, but I don't know how they are going to handle not having me there now. There is a forced close of the entire workplace a week after I am due to fly out, but I am worried they are going to say today after I go in that they need me to stay that extra week.
I just needed to vent because we have been looking forward to this all year, planning and saving, and I am kinda sure he is going to pop the Q over there and so I am really worried at this point about it it all falling over.
I mean we could put it off until later, but we lose a lot of money. And I just don't know if my boss is even inclined to care right now unfortunately.
Basically, they would be asking us to throw away $5000 + just for me to work an extra 5 days. I think I will calmly point that out to them if it is brought up. (Sorry thinking and typing, so forming a strategy)
