I love montemarte! Do you know what that place costs by any chance?

I looked it up at one time and it was pricey, but isn''t it dreamy

Also, sna - did you check this one: http://www.ilsanpietro.it/

I did... It looks pretty nice, but I''m a bit confused about the layout of the area etc... Is it good to be near the center with shops etc? Where is access to the beaches? This will be the ''sit at the beach'' part of the honeymoon...
this hotel has it''s own private beach -- and it''s not far from Le Sirenuse -- but away from town just a little.
from what I remember about Positano is the beaches aren''t that great anyway -- kind of rocky? SInce Lauren was just there recently, she could probably comment better....
The beaches aren''t spectacular, but they are nicer than most of Europe''s beaches that I''ve been to (GB, Ireland, Northern France - very rocky). I would say the central beach is nice enough to bask in the sun all day.

I just booked this one: http://www.hotelcaruso.com/web/orav/orav_a2a_home.jsp I hope it lives up to its promise [fingers crossed].
it''d better for 900 Euro a night for the cheapest room. ;)

Portofino was goinng to be our one stupidly expensive hotel for the 3 week honeymoon... Almafi does not get the $1400 night rooms too... haa

Looks fantasic though. HAriet, when are you guys going? We are in Italy from July 28 - August 18th

Sna - have you checked out http://www.luxurylink.com/ for some hotel packages in Italy? Because they''re sold in USD, you may end up getting a little bit of a better deal?

No kidding!

Ooh, where will you be going?

We''ll be there in mid-August. I''m stunned that there are still rooms left.

My favourite European hotels visited, thus far, have been the Hotel Danieli, Venice; Le Meurice, Paris; and St Regis, Rome.

If we don''t holiday in South America next year, I''d love to go to Hotel Sirenuse in Positano.

I stayed at the Montreux Palace Hotel in Switzerland on WORK once. It''s right on Lake Geneva and Nabokov used to live there. I had a HUGE room with a balcony overlooked the alps and the lake. Ahhhh.

Check out the slideshow:

To tread where Nabokov used to tread--how divine! I used to live in Jimi Hendrix''s old flat when I lived in London (not the blue plaque one, sadly) but can''t say I was ever inspired to get busy with fuel lighter and my teeth.

Here's the honeymoon itinerary:

Julty 26 wedding, 28th fly NYC to Milan. Renting a car for the next 3 weeks...

3 days in Lake Como
2 days in Portofino
3 days in Florence
3 days in Chianti (vineyard)
5 days somewhere in Almafi
3 days in Sardinia
2 days in Rome
back to NYC...

Everything is booked except Almafi / Sardinia.

The 2 days at Hotel Splendino in Portofino are going to be about $3500 US, so that was the big hotel splurge for the place... With the Euro killing the dollar, I think the average hotel is coming out to about $500-$600 US per night--although iut varies grealty because some places are real cheap (Chianti) and some are closer to $8-900 (Como, Rome)...

Thanks for the other link! Wiill check it out Monday (on Cape Cod now for the weekend)... Really need to book the last few places... Oh, Harriet, 8/7 - 8/13 are the dates for Almafi / Sardinia

Lucky, lucky girl. I didn''t know you were in NY too!

I was there about years ago. It is a lovely medieval village high atop the hill, and you have a lovely view of the surroundings. We went all over, into Italy, into Cannes, Monaco...it was nice but be prepared for crazy driving...

oops, meant to type EIGHT years ago!!!!

I''m REALLY excited about the driving actually... I rented a 3 series bimmer for the trip, and plan to enjoy myself... I actually like long, windy roads... Driving in Corfu, Greece and the Road to Hana in Hawaii where 2 of the funnest days I''ve had on vacations...

Our last 2 days of the honeymoon are at the St. Regis Grand in ROme.. Was actually pretty reasonable... Less than $500 US/night...

Sna, I was at the Voile D''or in St. Jean and we went in the car on excursions.
