Does anyone own Kunzite? I would like to have a Kunzite ring "the evening stone" to go with my pendent. I seldom wear my pendent because I am affraid it will fade and so for that reason I have not purchased a ring. I thought maybe some of you might own a Kunzite and tell me what to expect. My pendent sits in my safe. I bet I could count on one hand how many times it has been around my neck.

Thanks....Connie

I don''t own a kunzite but in my studies, kunzite was widely discussed for it''s fading if exposed to sunlight for extended periods and for that reason, it is often referred to as "Midnight Stone". It is also known to be brittle and so it should be mounted in a fairly protected setting. Brittle stones make better pendants than rings but if you have a protective mount(or are just careful with the ring) and only wear it on special occasions or out of direct sunlight for extended periods, you should be happy with your piece. Good luck!

My jeweler wears a kunzite ring all the time and I will be honest - it is quite faded. I''d almost think you''d be better off in that regard with the pendant!

JTV just had an 85.52 ct Kunzite pendent Whoa!!!

Thanks FireGoddess...guess that kinda tells me to keep it where it is and no more Kunzite. It is such a lovely stone. I like it better than Morganite!

Don''t plan to wear your kunzite regularly (like you would an engagement ring). Kunzite jewelry is best for occassions -- like going out at night type of thing. Also, if you are rough with your jewelry a kunzite ring might not be a good idea. I''ve seen plenty of people enjoy their kunzite rings for many years without fading -- they don''t wear it everyday.

Don''t worry about wearing it out in the sunlight occassionally -- prolonged exposure to the sun or a hot lamp will cause the color to fade (especially if the kunzite was treated of which most all are). So, if you have an hour commute, and you''re wearing your kunzite ring with the sun beating on it through the windshield all the way home... yeah - expect some fading.

On the other hand, if you wear your kunzite jewelry to occassionally change things up, or when you''re going out at night -- expect the color to remain the same.

Thanks Riogems for the information. I love Kunzite and would love to have a ring but not if I can''t enjoy it without worry. It is such a lovely gem, such a shame. Think I will let the pendent be it as far as Kunzite goes.

Interesting how the shopping channels play with gem names. "Yellow Kunzite" would be Spodumene, although I think it is more correct to say that pink Spodumene is called Kunzite. See this link:

Thanks GemKlctr for the info. I understand that Kunzite is in the Spodumene family, just had never heard of yellow. After seeing it I took a quick look in my book and it did not mention yellow. Thanks for the link.
