What is the effect of medium blue fluorescence on a L colored diamond?

I am clues about fluorescence and the effect it has on diamonds, any education would be helpful!

it will make the stone ''glow'' under blacklights.

other than that medium blue fluor. won''t have much effect, if any, on an ''l'' colored diamond.

Might make it look a tad whiter than it would otherwise...

Thanks Belle,

The color is "L" not "I", I thought I saw some where on this site a M colored stone. I was just trying to gauge how yellow a "L" colored stone would look and if there was something that could "offset" the color.

Thanks for your reply.

belle didn''t say I she said l which is a lowercase L.

Scott''s diamond is lower than an L and looks greenish... but it has very strong.... yours might look like a K instead of an L but I think that''s about it.

don''t be sorry! medium blue isn''t going to have much effect on either one but the potential for a stone getting the added benefit of looking ''whiter'' greatly decrease as you go down the color scale. any real differences would be better appreciated with ''strong'' or ''very strong'' blue fluorescence. in normal lighting conditions, med. blue just doesn''t change much.

btw...if you haven''t seen it already, there''s a cool video on fluorescence in the gallery http://diamondscope.pricescope.com/
check it out!

Hi YMA,

I actually have an L colored diamond with strong blue fluorescence and here are some links with pictures of it.
Here is a link to my L with SBF and my mom''s N with SBF.
Here is a link to my L after it was set in platinum.

Hope it helps!

Be sure to look at the stone in ALL different kinds of light. I considered an L with fluor but in some light it still looked light yellow or tan. Not as yellow as I expected an L to look though. I decided against it for clarity and color reasons. I found that Panera Bread co has lighting that will show a stone's yellow color.

If you like the light yellow that will still show in an L with fluor then buy it. But I just don't like yellow!
