I bought a sapphire from the internet and was wanting to get it appraised before the 10-day guarantee time (I know that is short). Anyway, in my search, I came across Labtrade Gemological Labratory which appriases for significantly cheaper than anywhere else. Does anyone here know anything about them?

Interesting. Very impressive website.

I''ve never heard of them, but I''m sure they''ve never heard of me either.

The $35 across-the-board price seems ludicrous, considering what items you encounter submitted for appraisal.

I''d be curious what information is given on the appraisal. Go ahead and have it done, and I''ll pay for it just to see a copy of their report.

That price does seem way too low. I looked at their web site and a couple of their "sample" appraisals. Their reports are skimpy. The color analysis just gives the primary color (hue) and does not give tone or saturation levels

I know your time for evaluation is short - but you should really stick with someone like Richard Sherwood who will give you a detailed GIA based analysis (hue, tone, saturation, clarity) and cut grade of your Sapphire. That way you will really know what you have - before you decide to buy it.

As an alternate to Richard - there is a PS listed appriaser north of you in California (about 2 hours?) that maybe you could hand deliver your stone to. I don't know anything about her - but she is a GG and an ASA Master Gemologist Appraiser, and is listed on PS - which is a good basis.

Ask to see a sample colored stone (ruby or sapphire) report before going to anyone.

Just my two cents.

The appraiser Bar recommended, (Nancy Stacy), has an excellent reputation. I doubt you could go wrong using her.

It will be more than $35 though...
