Ladies, how good is your guy at picking out jewelry for you?

Re: Ladies, how good is your guy at picking out jewelry for

My husband tries, but it is usually not right. I am a bit picky. But any time he buys something for me now, I just keep it and wear it.
The few times I have returned stuff I later felt bad about it, because he picked it out with such joy. One time I even had him buy me a piece again! It was a halo ring, and at the time I thought I was going to halo my e-ring and didn't want to have both rings on at the same time in the same style. When I didn't do the halo, I wished I had kept it.

This last mothers day, I had found a silver 3 piece locket necklace at Sam's. It is a similar style to Monica Rich Kosann and came in three shapes: oval, round, and heart. I specifically told him that I liked the oval and round and the heart was my least favorite. Which did he buy me? The heart. It was his favorite. Oh, well.

Er no. He can't bargain.

And I can.

HI:

Ohh NOOO GOOD.....(sorry honey if you are reading ;))..).....case in point he sent me a link to a Cartier watch he thought I would adore and was ready to pull the trigger.....Yikes! Suffice it to say length of time married does not equal knowledge about my taste in jewellery! Gotta love the guy for persistence!

cheers--Sharon

He tries, but we have different tastes. He likes simple and modern, and I like many more styles than just that. Right now I have enough simple and sleek things and am aiming for some fussy antiques. I showed him an antique five-stone ring I loved, that was 1 cttw and pretty cheap (comparatively), and he showed me the Whiteflash u-prong setting, which for the setting alone was twice the price of the ring I found. And it was like, seriously, dude, you are WELCOME to buy that for me, but I didn't think you wanted to spend that much money. He also just has a thing against pre-owned jewelry, even true antiques, whereas I actively seek out pre-owned pieces in the styles I am interested in, because it saves me money.

However he IS good at guessing what I would like in the narrow confines of what HE likes. And he is very good at knowing where the line is between "sparkly" and "tacky." Perhaps too good, because he thinks Victorian pieces with milgrain and engraving and piercing cross the line.

I don't think he would ever buy me jewelry on his own. At least, it hasn't happened in the two years we have been together. I wish he would come on PS and look at the recommended vendors and ask for some suggestions, but it's not going to happen, just like I am not going to geek out over motorcycles or grilling equipment.

Re: Ladies, how good is your guy at picking out jewelry for

Just got my invoice from DanielM for the items I'd purchased and a quote for the RG spacer I wanted, but told DH, no, I've spent too much already on myself, so I said no -he says, "Go ahead, get it, I'll buy it for you - you're worth it!" AWE!!! Thanks --- so replied to Caren before DH had completed the sentence....

So, he picks out GREAT stuff --- if I've already planned it out!   (but love it when it goes on his CC not mine! ;)) )
