I think 1.25-1.30 would look lovely in that setting, but so would 1.5

Do you know whether she is into larger diamonds or more understated ones? Its really a matter of personal taste.

Of course, the most important thing is cut, so I''d try to maximize cut quality for your budget and then consider size...

Also, maybe spend some time over on the Show Me The Ring forum to get a sense of how stones of those sizes look on size 4.5 fingers

Ditto AG on cut. That setting would look great with all the sizes you mentioned. I''d ask her what size she''s comfortable wearing.

Good luck!

Agreed!

The setting is gorgeous! A 1.5 would be wonderful if you have the right specs!

I wear a 4.5 and I think any of those sizes 1.2-1.5 would look gorgeous. Do you know how she feels about the size. They all would be plenty big in my opionion

Thanks for all the responses! I have been looking at Ideal cuts (GIA reports) with the best proportions (Depth 60-62, Table 54-57, Excellent Symmetry, etc.) along with F color and VS clarity. I know she does not want a center carat around 2 so 1.5 would seem to work. The only concern is the price difference between 1.30 and 1.50 with the same characteristics, about 5k.

This comes from a gal where size is not as important as to many others, but my advice is to go for the 1.3. There is not that much difference visually, once set, between that and a 1.5. And besides, she's got little fingers, which works in favor of the 1.3. Save the difference.
