Let it all hangout -- The Grumpies, whinies, complainies Get It Off Your Chest Thread....

My nephew, his wife, and their 4 children lost everything in the Lahaina fire on Maui. They moved there early this year when my nephew took a job as an ER doc. He's busy attending to those hurt in the fires, leaving his wife to deal with the aftermath complexities. HIs sister set up a go fund me for them. Never thought I'd be typing those words.

I am so sorry to hear this! So much loss there. I'm sure we don't fully get just how awful the losses are yet (and they look completely devastating!). I hope they are somewhere safe while he is working to help everyone.

I feel so bad for them.
I can't believe the devastation. It was our favorite place on our favorite Island.

So sorry to hear this. So many heartbreaking stories from Maui today. Bless them both as they struggle to care for family and patients. I can only imagine the anguish that so many are feeling.

Gosh, I’m so sorry for your nephew and family as well as all the residents. It’s awful. Terrible.

I thought that maybe it was a good idea to address the elephant in the thread, not this thread, but if you know, you know.

Since joining PS, I have always shared a lot (probably to a fault) about my life. Recently it’s has come to my attention that someone IRL has essentially been following everything I write on PS (especially this thread) and was so outraged that they felt the need to call me out recently, I have been able to identify exactly who this. It’s a bit off-putting but nothing I can do about it. To be clear, I do not regret anything, I have always been 100% me but it may be time to take a different approach. This is so I can continue to contribute here while not giving this person any material to work with going forward. This is really to protect my kids because my oldest has told me that there have been things said to him (about me) that would only be known by reading my posts here.

So from here on out I am making a serious effort to only talk jewelry. This seems to be the most sensible approach because the alternative is to leave PS entirely and I am just not willing to let this person take away something that brings me so much joy.

That’s really sad @YadaYadaYada , seems like stalkerish behavior or someone very insecure and immature. I’m not sure I know the full history but I enjoy the occasional banter with you about all topics.

Yup. Honestly, I don’t even care for myself but when it starts having an effect on the kids then something has to change. As Kenny recently pointed out, can’t control behavior of other people, only ourselves.

I saw that poster’s comments to you and thought wow! Just amazing that someone would remember and sling it back. I am sorry that happened to you. A supervisor that I had years ago told us not to put anything on the internet that we wouldn’t want on the front page of the Washington Post. He said once on the internet, it is fair game for anyone to dig up. Such a sad commentary on human beings but so very true. Sometimes people need what they feel is a safe place to vent but in the online land, I guess it doesn’t exist. I am glad you have decided not to leave altogether though as you are a valued member here!

That pisses me off. It would be helpful if this site limited non members to reading only the jewelry portions and have non jewelry portions hidden until members reach a certain post count. 350 posts would be a good place to start imo.

I agree, some kind of security feature would be nice.

Yada, I'm so sorry someone was so creepy and stalkery and I'm glad you decided to stay.

WTF?!

I am conscious that my presence in here could be linked to other message boards and social media that I frequent.

What I have said in PS and in this thread about certain people I would gladly say the same thing directly at them - I am a lot more diplomatic in social media than IRL, and am famous for being abrupt, straight to the point, and taking no prisoners!

I filed a complaint with the pension company after they still has not provided me with a quotation/illustration after I initiated my request via one of their webforms in early July 2023, and 3 phone calls later (today's being the most recent).

It was supposed to take 10 working days, and today is the 29th, and when I rang them, they could not provide me with a feedback of the status of my request. They said they would ask the person responsible to give me a call back early next week as he is not available currently.

When I rang in mid/late July 2023 to enquire, I was informed they needed to obtain some information from somewhere in order to process my request, and they had then received this information.

When I asked if they could expedite my request as it had been more than 10 working days, the staff curtly said "others have waiting longer than you", which did not gel well with me for sounding uncaring.

So I included that in my complaint too.

How frustrating!!!! I have noticed that customer service seems to have declined in recent years. It’s sad.

Smoke from fires to the north of me moved into the valley last night. Air is at hazardous to health level. Can't see past the end of my driveway. I've got 3 air purifiers running in the house. There's barely a breeze outside and the prediction is we're gonna be choking on this for a few days.:x2

Welp, of course, we pull off some siding and just like that, it's a sill replacement. And then we looked at the oil tank, that came out today...so that's tens of thousands we weren't banking on. Looks like I'm keeping older siding and painting my own house at some point. Again.
Whoever buys this place next are going to be lucky. New septic, new electrical, new sills, new oil tank/furnace...no expense was spared. When we do it, we do it better than necessary, just to be sure.
We've put in just about what we paid for the house at this point. You wouldn't know it to look at it, though. We keep trying to make her pretty. Sorry old girl, no fancy tarting for you.
Not fancy, but solid? Yes.
Now you know why I offer emotional support and always have no monies.

I'm too fat for this s*#t.

Ohh man. Sorry to hear you are having a hard time with the house. I can only imagine the frustration. We just had our HVAC system replaced. 4 days with no AC in July (Florida) trying to get quotes and stuff. $16,000 we spent.

Oi, I haven't lived in FL since I was a kid, but I remember the humid heat. Impossible to explain until you're suspended in it. That's a torturous 4 days and the 16k would make me cry too, if I could lift my head off the ground enough for anyone to see.

Ah, it more chalks up to a major PIA. Just more of the same. The house is 200 yrs old, and it comes with the territory. The sill, septic, oil are running @40k, and that's with DH doing work alongside to mitigate cost.
If we were just coming in blind with no skills it would've been 30+k for the sill alone.
I just got all starry eyed that maybe the budget would work out so I wouldn't have to haul my carcass to repaint for the first time, ever. Silly rabbit.
You have to have an entirely different portfolio of skills at the ready if you want an old house.
I married well to a man who really can do just about anything- enough that the professionals trust him.

Sometimes, he shows them a better way:lol:

Wow 200 years old. I thought our house was old. Built in 1968. I remember when you were posting pictures about the kitchen.
It’s unique for sure. I love seeing stuff like that.

I don't know how you do it though because I’m not sure I’d have the mind set to be in constant repair or remodel mode. I’d go crazy. Isn’t it nice having a man who knows his stuff?

Yes, I guess we've become used to it over the last twenty years. I can't imagine having a house like this without my handy dandy. We knew all this was going to have to be done- better to do it all now, while we're able. I just like to yowl about it and kick beams from time to time, I'm dramatic like that.
After this we should have decades of relative peace and can watch this round get old with us.
All major structural/systems redone.
Then it'll be the kids' problem.
I want this house to make it to 400.

I hear ya sista!! Our house has been under remodel for the past decade. Water issues nearly every week either with plumbing or irrigation. I think a troop of blind one-armed monkeys built this place. My DH is a pediatrician and doesn't know how to use any tools. I'm still trying to teach him how to use a manual can opener (I ain't kidding). My contractor, plumber, electrician, and handyman give us exemplary service because we are on top of the list of those funding their retirements.

What a day. While hurrying to make my tea before the plumber arrived at 7:30 a.m., I spilled nearly boiling water on my hand. Went out to talk to plumber about job, came back in 10 minutes later and husband said when he was playing with the cat, the cat swallowed part of a stuffed toy. Off to the emergency vet we went. Luckily they were able to remove it endoscopically so no surgery required but it took all day, the poor cat is traumatized, and I'm exhausted.

Just glad kitty is OK!

It's the oddest thing...I've been trying to reach someone by phone and text for the past week and a half and for some reason they're not getting my messages. And they finally called the other day and I missed the call! Grrr. If they don't call back I might have to go old school and write a letter :lol-2:

None of my beeswax and no effect on me whatsoever but I'm pissed that someone bought a very expensive ring and it was sent to them with a chip!!!!! The hell! Didn't seem like the chip was disclosed either. For that price it should have been ffing perfect! I feel like this is bordering on crooked behaviour by the seller. Anyways didn't want to be a downer in their thread but I'm just so boggled I had to type this here!

Yes!
don’t want to damp their happy though!

And I’ve already said it - wondering if it’s been in that vendors hands more than once to sell, and original listing pictures were possibly re-used. Was there a DavidAtlas report and what date? It’s been said there has been multiple owners. (And it’s travelled and been handled how much but it’s not like the stones culet extends below the mounting and is exposed) I suspect someone out there knows something. probably will ruffle PS feathers (laying the blame somewhere and who takes the financial hit, including the vendor themselves), the more it’s discussed here.

My husband and I waited almost 60 years to find each other, I never even dreamed I'd experience a love like him. He was such a good and loving man, we had a beautiful relationship. Today would be our 3rd anniversary, we didn't even have 2 together. His cancer was diagnosed just before our first, he fought so hard to live. :cry2:

Aaaargh!!!! I had a plumber replace a back yard spigot 5 years ago and it just failed. Turned the spigot off and the water kept gushing out. I was insistent on a shut off valve there and really glad for that because the plumber didn't think it was necessary.

I am going to try to replace it myself as long as it doesn't require welding. So far in the last year I have had to replace the temperature sensor on my 5 year old oven, the temperature sensor on my 5 year old Maytag washer, the flame sensor on my furnace, and now this. On my to do list is to replace the cord on an upstairs window (6 years old), and mind you I just replaced the handle on my 5 year old storm door. I don't buy cheap parts or cheap items so this seems so unnecessary. Seriously- is anything made to last anymore?
