Lotus ~$50k
4c J SI2 ~$30k (maybe even less)
5ctw J SI2 studs ~$26k ($13k each for 2.5c stones)
2c J SI2 pendant ~$11k

Total: ~$115k

Definitely less than full Tiffany retail.

I'm a savvy shopper, trust me, I could swing it....Ye of so little faith!

Hmm though paying down mortgage would be smart but not QUITE as fun.

I agree with the others who find high colors too CZish. I'd totally take the best cut I vs2. My mom has some F, E pieces and they don't appeal as much as warmer diamonds. I also prefer yellow gold over white metals...autumny shades of orange, rust, brown, plum over black, white, navy, blue-red etc.

I drool over those K, Ls & Ms on the Fay Cullen site & I don't think size plays a part. There's a vintage-y romantic warmth there for me while the whiter diamonds are more stark, dazzling and cool. Each to his/her own vibe.

Mara, love your trade-in/selling idea. I'd def. trade a D for a J. It might not even have to be larger.

Is this a story of diamond or of cash ? Being offered to pick a freebie regardless of price from someone I cannot offend... of course the most ''damage'' makes sense - diamonds or no diamonds. Being given the chance to choose between diamonds without knowing their grades and prices, who knows what I''d come up with. Different matter

Our only real debt IS our mortgage. If that was paid off, think of all the fun stuff I could buy each month with what we are now putting toward the mortgage? And I think the fetching price of a 3 Ct D IF Tiffany diamond would just about cover what we have left on our mortgage. My biggest fantasy is the debt free zone...lol.

At this office I once worked at, for Christmas the boss took everyone out to a really nice Italian restaurant, could order anything you wanted off the menu, he was paying. Even before we got there, I could hear all these people murmuring in the parking lot, "I''m going to order the lobster tail." Sure enough, about half the people ordered lobster tail. I don''t know if they even liked lobster, but it was the most expensive item on the menu. Next year our Christmas dinner was a fixed menu at a much crappier place with two choices: chicken or salmon.

Ana & PG,

In lots of cases, the ''most damage'' might not be the ideal.

The dinner is a great example for me..I''m horribly allergic to seafood(near-projectile vomiting, rashes, dizziness) so the glorious lobster offer would be lost on me.

As the saying goes: "Everythang ain''t for everybody!"
