Let's play a game... rainbow gems.

You want midnight blue? Oooookaaayyy... Allow me to use this opportunity to tell you a little bit about this ring...

1653899718328.png

The dark stones are two very very dark blue sapphires (you can even see the blue a little if you zoom in on the upper stone). Very low quality, not at all transparent. The white stones are cz. Overall, not a high monetary value ring. But it has a story.

This ring is about as old as I am. When my mother was pregnant, my late grandmother was working as an ophthalmologist in Tunisia, she spent a number of years there. She couldn't be here for my birth so what she did was go out and find the prettiest gold ring she could find as a gift for her newborn granddaughter. She always wanted a daughter herself, but fate only gave her one son. She then proceeded to safekeep the ring for the next 18 years and gifted it to me for my 18th birthday. Talk about a present long time in the making!

The ring is hand forged in 18k gold and is very precious to me (almost to Gollum levels precious). I've even considered having the stones replaced with something of higher value but then I always revert back to thinking I'd rather keep it just as it is because that is how she bought it for me.

This story gave me big time warm and fuzzies!! Please never alter that ring. Those stones have seen things and been places. And, most importantly, they were lovingly safeguarded by your beloved grandmother all those years. They possess her touch. Plus, it's a lovely piece, and I'm a sucker for floral designs! Thank you for sharing, my friend! I've always seen this ring in your profile pic, but never knew its value. ❤️

Stories like this are my favourite part of PS :kiss2:

In the center of the photo is my purple sapphire from Precision Gem. Sorry if there are other colors, but I don't store most of my loose gems by themselves anymore.

Oh my goodness... you're killing me, @voce! This entire palette is a feast for the eyes. You have such an knack for unusual, but complimentary, color combos. I have lots of questions now! lol Are the bright blue stones hauyne? What is the large light green oval/cushion on the left? Is that a round pad sapphire or spinel below the purple sapphire? What are the smaller golden yellow stones surrounding it? LOVE!!

The bright blue stones are apatite, another type of soft but beautiful gem. The oval on the left is a cuprian turnaround. It's a spinel below the purple sapphire, surrounded by spess garnet and lavender sapphire, and tiny pink sapphire.

@voce Sumptuous! So what is the sort of celery green stone all the way to the left surrounded by smaller green gems? :kiss2: Wow, those are the bluest apatite I've ever seen!

Wow, you didn't ask all your questions in one go? I think you're referring to the chrysoberyl surrounded by emeralds! It's what I would describe as "lemon-lime" in color and neon enough for me to consider it highlighter color. I have a whole batch of future rings planned out but need to have the budget to set them. Currently prioritizing the spinels and paraiba crown ring project.

Just noticed my phone auto-corrected tourmaline to turnaround :lol-2:

I'm so looking forward to picking up the matching bangle that I hope you guys don't mind if I lost sharing for pink. Inken's pictures are better than my own, which was taken in a curtained darker room.886543872321889773

You’re too kind! I need to take decent photos (or try to) of all my gems/jewelry!

This is hand on heart true
back in the day when i had just a point and shoot Minolta camera (before the digital age) i never took a bad pboto
Dad used to say don't bother taking a 2nd one because the first one was always perfectly perfect

Since the digital age all my photos across multiple new cameras and devices have all been cr*p

Yeah, it's definitely a lemon-lime... not sure where I got "celery" from. lol I must be hungry! :P2 Anyway, it's beautiful. And it looks huge!

I saw this suite in your other thread. It is beyond gorgeous, my friend!!

@Eli22 I feel like garnets really make the most of precision faceting... and this is one of the prettiest reds I've ever seen! It looks like Dorothy's slippers. May I ask who cut it?

@Daisys and Diamonds Oh girl you crack me up! I love how you slipped a Bruce reference in there too!! :lol-2: Your coral is gorgeous... have you priced it lately? So expensive.

@Starstruck8 I can see why that spess warms your soul on a cold day! It truly does look like the blazing ember of a fire.

No no, don't feel guilty for owning it! I love my coral!! Much of what you see on the market is old stock, because it's so difficult to "mine" these days. Aside from there being bans on new material, harvesters used to literally free dive in the Mediterranean to source it, which was tricky. So while I wouldn't want to see coral production ramp up (because we all want to save our oceans, right?), I would still be proud to own what you have. And, of course, we always want to buy from reputable and conscientious dealers. The biggest threat is coral bleaching due to climate change, as you said. I saw a program on the BBC the other day about scientists growing coral in labs and then "transplanting it" into the reefs. It's working!

P.S. With regard to ivory, we definitely want to steer clear of that which comes from poaching. But I do own a bit of ivory from wild boar! They are not endangered, but can sometimes be destructive to the environment when their numbers are uncontrolled. So when they're hunted for meat, they take the tusks. Sometimes the tusks are also cut down on farmed warthogs (the animals remain unharmed), because they grow continuously. :))

Yum yum !:lickout:
Very lean conspired to meat from the butcher
Off topic i know :lol-2:
but i have a pork roast in the slow cooker
yes ive been reading lately parts of your country have the same problem with wild pigs as we do
also goats are very bad here too
(Gary loves a goat curry)
I don't think wild goats are anywhere near dangerous like a wild boar
