Let's talk about CS projects in progress

Bit inspired from the forum here as well as Ive only one ring in yellow gold Im actually thinking about to set a cushion gem for a silver color men's ring. In platinum or white gold. Im not sure witch gem I will choose as I like both of them. It will turn out when the project becomes more concrete I guess. So far I imagine only a simple design, something in the direction of the example pic, with the stone set north-south and set somehow like on the pic or with 4 prongs. I love these and I love Hemmerle! Great inspirations

Hahahaha! Yes, Hemmerle was my (distant) inspiration for the chrysoberyl above, too. Figured I'd never get that 15-ct unheated Burmese blue on my own, or the high six figures to buy one of their rings :) So chrysoberyl it is!

I do like their "older" stuff and not so much the open-work, wrought-iron look. But I love their cool alloys and went with green gold for mine because it's more bronze-like than yellow gold. I love the idea of setting a crazy-nice stone very simply in a non-traditional metal that will develop a patina -- but nobody's gonna do that for me.

My dream is this some day. With a cushion, I would not make it too geometric. I'd go very thin to almost invisible bezel, and very soft contours from outside to the inside of the ring. And way thicker around back of the ring so the taper is gentler. Yes I know it's a man's ring. I would also hope to match the tone of the stone to the tone of the metal as closely as possible -- I think that almost-monochromatic look would be cool. And timeless.

Thank you very much for the detailed inputs! Your right, I also would like it way thicker and more equal in thickness around the ring. Its just a sample pic (didn't find something better in a few minute search) and more or less just should show that I would like something simple looking. No additional gems or detailed tiny texture work in the metal.
For the grey spinel with he's roundish corners probably a bezel setting looks better. For the sapphire a 4 prong setting could be also a possibility. As Ive no experience in such designing stuff and never have rings and those metals around me I need to see that in person. Especially for the color and texture of the metal Ive to have that stuff in my hands to compare it directly with the gems to get bit a feeling for it.
If I find a metal for that monochromic look would be great! Already curious how that one will look beside different silver color metals. Really need to see that in person to get a taste.

I would think matte-finish platinum would be the grayest -- that's what I would use for that gray spinel.

This thread is such a pleasant distraction. Everyone has such beautiful projects they are working on and have received :)).
I have this black opal from Jordy that I want to send to a local artist to set in a three stone with the purple garnet sides. It’s a roval and I can’t decide whether I like it better orientated east/west or north/south. What do you all prefer?

That color combo is dynamite! Absolutely love it!

As requested by AV_, above, some better photos of the chrysoberyl ring in 18K green gold. What else am I gonna do now, right?

Outdoors on completely overcast day and about to rain. Last photo is comparison with 14K yellow gold decades-old wedding band. The next-to-last-one shows that there is so much light return that to expose correctly on the stone, the band is underexposed. The photo that shows the whole ring from above is about as bad as I can make it look -- but it shows the contours of the ring.

@LilAlex I don't think you could make the ring look bad if you tried.
I'm still waiting for my chrysoberyl. It is stuck at a delivery depot as they have not got enough drivers currently. Going slightly cuckoo bonkers! :wall:

Stunning ring. Love the stone (that color swoon!) and the setting ! What a beautiful combo.

Agree with @Niffler75
and Niffler please don't go too bonkers...your beautiful Chrysoberyl ring will be here before you know it and try to relish the delightful (yet I know anxiety ridden) anticipation. Just think how much more excited you will be when it arrives. :appl:

Thank you, missy and Niffler75!

Sanitizing my hands so often that I can't even wear it!

Good luck, Niffler75 -- sorry you have to be so patient....

Thanks @LilAlex Being an ex nurse i am fully aware of the current situation but at times patience is not one of my strengths I'm afraid! I need to channel my inner zen! :shifty:

Well following on from previous discussions my chrysoberyl ring arrived today. It's a vintage probable mid century 14k gold. The stone is 10mm-8mm.
I am really pleased. The colour is super bright. It is shifty depending on the light and I have tried to capture this in pics. It can be vivid yellow, almost golden orange in some light, then it can lighten up to a pale yellow with almost a chartreuse colour coming through the corner fascets as you see with paler chrysoberyl stones.
Anyhow just wanted to share. The colour is certainly brightening my day! :mrgreen2:

Wow, what a great ring! I love it. You scored! The warmth and softness of it is lovely, almost like sunshine being cradled and lulled by a soft wave ....

@Bluegemz Thanks v much! It's a very uplifting colour indeed! :mrgreen2:
Now back to Ruby Lane for another bargain......maybe! :Up_to_something:

I just received the design options for my three stone black opal/purple garnet ring and I can’t decide which one I like best. I’d love to know if you all have a favorite? She said tweaks can be made to stone orientation and the designs.

While any of them would work, I'm most drawn to #2 and #3. I think my personal preference is to not have that much metal as #1 and #4. Are you getting drawn to one of these more so than others?

I got these cobalt spinel to see if I want to switch out the 1.9 mm unheated Vietnamese pink sapphires in the layout that's currently my avatar. I decided to keep the unheated sapphire, and use the cobalt spinels for a future project where the unheated pink sapphire alternates with the cobalt spinel around a 5mm round center gem. Debating between green and purple for center.

I think 2 and 3 are my favorites. The other designs seem like too much to me.

Here’s what I’m going with for my spess... the pears will either be pink/ saturated fuchsia sapphire or spinel, depending on what looks best and on what DK can find.

I love this. It’s going to be gorgeous! There’s nothing like orange and bright pink. A truly underrated color combo.

The jewelers pieces are usually edgy, statement pieces like #1 and I’m really drawn to that look, but maybe not for these particular stones. I think I might ask her make me a ring like #1 in using a cabochon and oxidized silver in the future though. I will most likely play it safe with these stones and go with a traditional 3 stone bezel ring like #3. I had planned to ask her to switch the center stone orientation to N/S, but after seeing and absolutely loving It’sMainelyYou’s new 3 stone with the oval set E/W, I think I might keep my center E/W.
