Lookey what I got...

btw Dreamer, I absolutely believe that the center could be 1.4. If you are measuring 6.9mm, and mine was measured at 6.3 (although I swear, I think is bigger), and mine is 1.15, then there's no way yours could only be 1.25.

Thanks DS! I am very smitted still.

I got the appraisal back on the diamonds. I have not used this appraiser before, but he is the only truly independent guy in our town. Apparently used to teach at GIA, whatever that means ;)) 8) It was a $50 appraisal, nothing fancy, just to see if the stones are about what I think they are.

He thought the key stone is 1.40ct, I color, VS1 clarity! :o
Sides are 0.75ct and 0.80ct, H/I and I/J color, both VS1 clarity.

If these specs are accurate, and I think they very well could be using EGL standards, retail value for the diamonds is about $18k. Frankly, that is insane.

Before I set them I will dismount them and take them to EGL, for curiosity and to have a good papertrail for insurance.

And I might be able to take some pictures this afternoon for the circling sharks!

GREAT news :appl:

I am so mad at myself more than ever now :angryfire: :angryfire: :angryfire:
BI, you have consolation prizes up the Ying Yang...you can't own ALL of the world's purdy diamonds, yanno. ;))

I know it. I am very glad for Dreamer on this one.

I am perfectly happy that BI is jelly of my little ring   I know she is teasing. But if I ever cross her path i might have to hide my ring.

As an aside this is one of those cases where Fortekitty's maxim holds true: Big risk, big reward. Taking risks is not for everyone! The photos that this seller -- an awesome woman who is likely lurking here :wavey: -- were very poor quality (it is hard to photograph diamonds, we forget that on PS). I know if I had not spent the last six months on ebay successfully buying old cuts I would never in a million years have taken this chance.

I thought her craigslist pic wasn't bad (when Mico first posted the listing) and thought it would be a good buy. I haven't been buying a ton of old cuts, but I guess after browsing on ebay for ages, you get an idea too.

So far, this is panning out to be exactly what you want, so I expect it set in your "dream" setting...stat. ;))

Is he grading though, using GIA standards then? in which case EGL should come back higher on the color grade (assuming they usually are more lenient). Patrick Davis grades by GIA standards, and mine is a J by him. I can see a little warmth compared to my F, but it's hard to tell by glance. And it's faces up white set in platinum. So what I am trying to say is, I don't think you would have any issue if your stones are I/J by GIA standards in a white metal. It will look white!

For all I know he is using lucky leprechaun standards ::) The stones are in yellow gold which makes it really hard to judge tint I have found. I had a smaller OEC set in yellow metal that I thought matched my EGL I color stone. When I unset it -- BAM -- it was very obvious that the stone was at least 2-3 color grades less tinted than the EGL I! In this case, I compared these set stones to the EGL I color stone when the EGL was loose and they look similar in tint. They face up very white. In situations where my AGS K color RB and AGS M colored AVC used to turn taupe and deep brown or russet, these stones look grey, which is an optical thing I associate more with less tinted stones, I color or better.

When I compare them to my Aurora with its G color diamonds, there is a noticable warmth to these stones, but not stark. They could be I-J per GIA. Hard to say! I don't think I will send them to GIA since the wait time is so long and EGL is the old cut standard anyways -- so for isurance purposes and EGL report is probably more beneficial. But it would be interesting. When they are loose I will be able to get a good sense of it. My own sense of diamond color is decent.

Anyways, I have no concerns about setting them in white metal. I am totally satisfied with the tint! Or lack thereof.

My own thought too when looking at the stone was that it was more like 1.3 to 1.4ct. It is a fat stone with a high crown and good depth. Looking at OECs on OWD with similar proportions they all top out over 1.4. It doesn't matter much since face up size is the thing I was after, but its nice to know anyways for pure hedonistic pleasure :rodent:

It feels a little like this was meant to be. As far as old cuts go, as far as a suite of three stones go, this is pretty much my holy grail. In some silly fantasy land, if you could order up suites of old cuts like Tacos, then I might have liked a suite of stones that were a little older in make, even smaller tables and even higher crowns. But you can't get *exactly* what you want with oldies buying the way that I do, and frankly, there are so many amazing pluses about these stones that I am utterly satisfied. The color, the clarity, the symmetry. It ticks really important boxes.

Settin... oog I have to rustle up the funds woman! Did I tell you I have two kids in daycare which is a seriously scary financial situation :o I am enjoying its "temp" setting now and got a really thin YG band to wear with it. And I will ponder and save :halo: But your emthusiasm is noted and appreciated!!

LOVE LOVE LOVE it!!!

I hear lucky leprechaun standards are...well, lucky!

It will be interesting to see how they face up without the gold. I think they will be whiter, as I think you're right on the gold affecting the tint.

I wish I could see what those stones would look like on my 5.25 finger, because man...even my suite of stones is STILL huge on me. They must be MASSIVE together on yours...a ring size bigger isn't that much, lol!

Happy for you...very exciting, and I'm still circling for more pics, lady.

The temp looks good on your hand, so no issue there. I only have one in preschool, which is a scary situation as it is. Which is why I push to do my projects immediately...rumor is they only keep costing MORE.... :knockout:

I am going to stick my nose in (I've been circling, but quietly :wink2: ) to further clarify that the gender of the kiddo makes a biggie too. My daughter has cooler clothes and more shoes than myself. My son...meh, he'd walk around in his undies all day if I let him (he's four).
If the kids are happy, well dressed, etc. then we can walk around in flip flops and baseball caps without the "oh she's really gone downhill...bless her heart" looks, right? They do get more expensive. Get your bling while you can!! Maybe they will try to stay in our good graces if the jewelry is cool enough. There's the will and all, ya know...

Well, I know when you have the ring made, it will be awesome DD.

Well there are generally types of people when it comes to cool stuff...

1) the type where they want to be special and have it, and no one else can, so they hate sharing the details, even when asked.
2) the type where they want everyone to see and own the thing they think is special, so they say "You MUST get one of these!"

I'm pretty well type #2. I love having a three stone ring, so I'm excited for other people to get the one of their dreams too!

OK, got some photos at last.

Here are some RLP shot. Honestly, this ring is really over the top.

OK, this is why that last pic made me laugh.

Henceforth, I proclaim that anyone who wants to do a 3 stone mirror RLP shot must wear a black v neck shirt (with some frilly bits) and a pendant. :cheeky:

YOU WILL BE ASSIMILATED!!

I knew the pose was the same as yours because I was paying homage to your shot for me, but the same clothing too!

We shall start a club. New members will be sad to learn that the ring is not the membership gift. Just the pajama t-shirt.

It looks really good on your hand and I like the yellow gold on your skintone! You are now blingalicious!!

So glad you found a ring that you really love - I'm delighted for you! :appl: :wavey:

OK - I'm busted! But I just had to "lurk" until I found out that you were going to keep the ring :) Sounds like you got a wonderful deal, Dreamer - evidence that your knowledge, hard work, and willingness to take a risk paid off. I'm happy, because I got a price that I was satisfied with, and the pictures were pretty awful! As I told you before, I had been given a verbal estimate of $14000, so I'm happy to hear that it's even more valuable. But I was never in it to make a ton of money - just enough for my next purchase. You've been extremely nice to work with, and I appreciate that - sometimes e-bay is a gamble. I'll probably retire from this site now that I know that you're happy, and will get on with my life. My best to all you sparkly people :)

BLING BLING! You are blinding us with that thing!

What is the total mm across your finger? 7mm center plus 5.5mm each for the side stones for a total of 18mm across?

Looks great on you! Your finger is definitely covered!

Loving the uniform! I can't believe your latest photos - they are incredible!

Ye gods. Deal of the century doesn't begin to cover it! :$$): :lickout:

I suspect most PSers are type2s TGal :cheeky: then again, if this was MY deal the best word would be.. smug

Dreamer hurry up with the setting design!!!

Bling bling, both of you!! Love those matching shots.

But oddly, TG stones look bigger, maybe it's the octagon halos? Interesting.

Probably smaller ring size and the fact that my hands are closer to the mirror cause the illusion. Also the setting does make my center (including the delicate metal) about 7mm across, making it about the same size as Dreamer's center stone. My stone itself is easily half mm smaller without the metal. The three stones are also set about .5-1mm apart from one another on the horizontal axis.

Ah, and I just realized Dreamer's ring finger is the most forward. Mine's tucked in, causing immediate photo finger lipo! There's more finger there than meets the eye, lol. If my finger was jutting forward, the stones would look smaller as well.
