I want to start giving my girlfriend some jewelry that she can treasure forever. Most of her current jewelry she received for her first communion or various graduations. Others are just low quality pieces bought for the look, not the quality. At 26, she thinks it''s time to leave the costume jewelry and get some real stuff. Her birthday is in September and I know she would like some jewelry with sapphires.

For Valentine''s Day, I thought I might get her a ring like this:

My 2 questions:
Is this a nice ring and a good value at $295? I haven''t seen anything quite like it, so I''ve found it hard to compare to the other rings I''ve seen. It caught my eye quickly and I think that''s very important.

How in the world am I supposed to get her ring size? I''ve thought about "borrowing" one of her other rings (without her knowledge), but I''ve never seen her wear any rings, so I''m not even sure that they are the right fit. Any tips?

I''ve also considered getting her a tennis bracelet with sapphires and I like the look of this one from Signed Pieces:

I thought about calling Signed Pieces and seeing if they could substitute sapphires for all of the diamonds in the bracelet. But then again, my gf is a girl and I know that she loves diamonds. I also wonder if the bracelet would look as nice with 60 sapphires instead of 45 sapphires and 15 diamonds. What a dilemma

Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

I think the price on that ring is just about right. It''s 18k white gold which is more expensive than 14k. The stone looks like it will be light but some people prefer lighter sapphires (me included). I much prefer a lighter sapphire over the dark nearly black ones you find in the mall sometimes. The lighter ones have life to them. No clue as to how to find her ring size. Can''t help you on that. But the ring looks like a winner to me!

I think the ring is a great choice. I would ask her mom(my SIL did this) or best friend to help get the size right. Keep us posted and show us pics!!!

Thats a lovely ring for someone who doesn''t normally wear rings - actually its a great ring for anyone who does normally wear ring as well!

The price seems pretty reasonable, and the stone looks a very nice colour. I''m a September baby too, and I think we are drawn to sapphires - I love them and just can''t get enough!

Great choice

I have bought a couple of pieces from Signed Pieces and I have been happy with them. I also prefer lighter sapphires with life to them. It''s a lovely ring and the bracelet''s nice too.

Can''t help you with the ring sizing, though the Mom idea is a good one.

Best of luck!

Sounds like I''ll have to get creative to get her ring size. I''ll see if her mom has any idea what it is as well. Thanks

I was just thinking... Why can''t I order the ring, give it to her as a gift, and then have it resized by a local jeweler? I''m going to run this by the folks at Signed Pieces and see what they think. I know it would void their 30-day full refund, but I wouldn''t take it to get resized until I am sure that it''s a keeper.

why not take a stab, and if you are wrong, return it for a different size, instead of re-sizing it. It seems silly to re-size a brand new ring.

^^^ That''s essentially what the fella at Signed Pieces told me. I purchased the ring and I will return it to him if I need a different size. Works for me...
