Looking for a Blue Sapphire 2.0 Carat E-Ring

I see a purple modifier and gray tone in the hand shot of the stone you just recently posted. However, the hand shot is tiny, so its hard to judge. I am someone who likes written descriptions when working with vendors, so I would ask Andrew about that stone if you're interested.

I am just too confused to be of any help any more, because I have no idea which stone you are asking about

I am sorry to be of confusion.

I am looking at the one posted earlier.

Here it is again.

I like the stone but I am trying to get more information about it at the moment.

I should have it on hold soon. :)

Let's not put the cart in front of the horse. Inquire about the sapphire, if it checks out, then see it in person. If its THE one, only then should you scout for settings.

I agree. But those are my thoughts at this point.

I am not pulling a trigger on the setting till later when I actually receive the stone and look it over thoroughly.

After which I might even visit some jewelry stores and find out what might look good and what people have to say about it.

Thanks for the input once again!

Aww, Mom!

Ulysses,
Do you have any idea of her ring design preference? The one you showed is a very safe and elegant choice. Can't go wrong with it.

Minou,
Are you talking back, young lady? Off to the corner you go! :nono:

I'm coming out of the corner long enough to say that I agree that Ulysses's design choice is simple, timeless and elegant. Now I'm scuttling back to my corner.

Y'all are too funny. Haha.

Thanks for all who put their input. I hope that everything works out.

I kind of already put the horse before because I still need to talk with her parents. :)

Thanks

Ulysses

Oh that's SO cute and really respectful. I'm sure they'll say yes.

Hey what are everyone's thoughts on buying gems online like this?

I buy things online but I guess I am growing a little nervous over the idea.

Please let me know your thoughts on Gemfix.com

Thank You

Ulysses

I haven't bought from Gemfix, but I know several people have and I have not heard of any customer service issues. You can do a search for "Gemfix" in the search engine on the top right.

Sometimes people return stones, but that's part of trying to buy a gemstone online with a photo. Very few vendors, and people in general, I think, can get gem photos to be accurate. Our monitors are also all different. I've found it's actually just as important to ask pointed questions as it is to look at a photo (e.g., does the color shift, what is the secondary color, does it look as saturated in person, etc.)

EDIT: I looked through the search engine, and you should too to make your own judgement. There are also 2 negative threads that Gemfix seems to have responded to today.

I bought a 1 carat heated Burmese ruby from Gemfix, and I was very happy.

That was my only purchase with them. I do not have any experience with their return service.

I bought a Gemfix sapphire and ended up returning it because although it was close to what I wanted it wasn't exactly right for me. They were great throughout the process. You shouldn't have any concern buying from them online.

Hello JF,

I may be able to add a little perspective as a fellow newbie to online gem buying. In the past few weeks, I have bought 2 gemstones from 2 separate online vendors. Rather then describe the purchases in detail I will summarize it as follows:

1) Most reputable online vendors know that colored gem purchases are different from diamond purchases and much depends on how you see the stone in real life. One vendor was exceptionally accommodating, tops in communication, and even such a great resource of information that I was amazed. The other was also better than your average "salesman" when it came to helping. Just make sure you know the return policy.
&
2) Sometimes what you see in the online pics is not exactly what you see in real life. It could be tricky photography, or to be honest, sometimes its just difficult to make a pic appear exactly like real life. If it turns out to be completely different (as was the case with one of my purchases) then see #1 above. Just saying that you should be prepared for anything when you open that little package that comes in the mail.

One thing that several of the PSers have pointed out is that if you see something you like, jump on it as soon as possible (well, within reason). Heck, I saw the stone you were looking at, and if I didnt respect your position (new to this and looking for help), I might even jump on it. In short, beware of lurkers. They may be honest people that want to see your happiness, but sometimes its hard for one to say no when one sees something one likes.

Best Wishes,
J

I just purchased a couple of inexpensive stones from Gemfix (my daughter's birthstones). One looked better than the photo on the website, the other was quite comparable. The delivery came two business days after I placed the order. I can't complain.

I greatly appreciate your input.

I can understand most of what you said. I appreciate the respect.

I understand that I am taking a gamble with throwing the stone out there but I guess I would rather buy with confidence and knowledge rather than buying in the dark without ever posting.

Thank You to all who responded to my questions!

Please feel free to continue posting.

Thank you.

Perhaps I am being a pessimist, but at this point, if you have not reserved the stone, I doubt its available any longer.

Pregcurious: Can you post the link to those threads? I cant seem to find them. Also, I like the advice about asking the vendor questions. Sometimes photos are completely accurate but they only capture a micromoment in time. Direct questions might be a way to get an overall feel for the stone.

BTW - As of a few minutes ago, the stone was still available.

Perhaps Pregcurious is confusing Gemselect with Gemfix? There were several old threads today that were revived and responded to by Gemselect about their stones and business - completely separate from Gemfix. If that's what she is referring to, you're fine!

Note that sometimes the listing shows the stone as available but it isn't because the vendor hasn't had time to update the status. Unless you emailed or called him to confirm, you are taking a gamble. Just a warning.

Yes, I confused the 2. Thanks for catching that Minous.

Wow I cant believe how much time has gone by since I have made this post.

Well I am still on the hunt for a stone.

I actually ended up having that 2.4 round sent over to me and it just wasn't what I was looking for.

Unfortunately it was darker than I wanted it to be.

The cut on it was surely amazing as the pictures show but the color just wasn't where I wanted it to be.

Any help on this search will be great!!

I have branched out to the following:

Medium to Kashmir Blue
Round to Ovalish Round

If the color is phenomenal, it will only be then that I decide to go with a cushion cut.

I am trying to propose soon so I am anxious to get a stone but I want it to be a really nice one so I have the patience.

All the help is greatly appreciated!!

Thank you

Ulysses

This is a set stone but I thought the ring was nice

http://www.langantiques.com/products/item/30-1-5092

Thank you for the post. I am looking for stone around 7.5mm round.

If its oval I am ok as long as its more round than a long spread out oval.

Therefore I am looking for something bigger than 2-2.5 carats.

I like the color on that stone.

Thanks again

Ulysses

I'm sorry the stone didn't work out. Have you looked at others in the meantime?

Why not do it the other way around? You know, having been here, about the Recommended Vendor sticky list above -- see if you find anything you like from those vendors & then link to it & ask for opinions. Roger Dery at Spectral Gems has a number of sapphires up at the moment in various cuts.

Good luck!

Looks more oval to my eyes.
I'm sure David would change the setting to your taste.
Didn't he just say he'd prefer a round and didn't want ovals unless it was a rounder oval?

It's still out there. Sapphires aren't like diamonds, and they take patience. Sometimes a lot of patience. Did you take any pictures of the stone you had bought? I'd like to see them if you took any...
