Dkata, I love it! Beautiful color and I love the shape!

@junebug17 - yes I love the shape also. It has a nice checkerboard pattern on the top, I love this cut!!

Dkata, is the stone medium or medium dark in tone? Does it look brown under fluoresent light? What is the actual colour? To me it is a beautiful purplish red like raspberry colour. The colour is vivid for red garnet

@pwsg07 - to tell the truth, I have no experience with garnets, so I don’t really know, if the stone is medium or medium dark.
Regarding the brown tone, I have to check it. I can do it in our bathroom.
The actual color is something between red and pink, this is what I see with my eyes, although it photographs more red.
Bevor I have decided for this stone, I was browsing a lot for vendor and owner pictures, and I have learnt, that in order to have a not too dark stone, I have to go for one, which seems rather light colored in the vendor pictures. And it worked for me, because it is really vivid, and lively.

So I have made a picture at fluorescent lightning! I think the stone does not go brown, but it goes from pink to red, or just a dark less attractive pink, but definitely not brown. What does this indicate?

I just wanted to add that I received my own umbalite from Jeff Davies but as I don't want to hijack this thread, I will post the pictures back in mine.

I do love it and hope the jeweler will be able to place it in my setting.

dkata,
Your umbalite is beautiful - and yes, it is so amazing how much red/pink it can show in some lights (nicer than many rubies) but in others, it can go a very dark deep red.

Almost all gemstones shift in color in various light sources. Garnets are no exception. That's why it's really important to evaluate a stone in various light sources before purchasing. It's a very pretty umbalite, enjoy!!

I think it turns brown. On your photo, your hand is lighter in tone but your garnet goes darker. It is a beautiful stone as long as you understand the colour shift of the red garnet

Would love to see it! What thread is it posted on?

This comment should be made a sticky in Colored Stones!! Or there should be a pinned thread about this.

@dkata I think you were right to go for a stone that looked lighter in the vendor photos than what you wanted in real life. Please start a thread for your stone with setting ideas. :mrgreen2:
