I''ve been debating on a new setting for my recently upgraded diamond. I purchased the diamond (2.07 ct pear) and had it set in a simple gold cathedral since the whole selling-old-diamond/shopping-for-new-diamond/buying-new-diamond event was overwhelming to say the least. I could not even think about a setting at that time. Now, I want an awsome set (or one larger ring with no separate wedding band maybe).

I saw an awsome set posted here by Vatche (how is that pronounced properly anyway?). It''s #482 on the Vatche website - ering with pear side stone and wedding band with rounds across center and pears at the ends. My husband really likes it too. I''ll probably have to have this made because it looks on the website to have a knife edge which I am not sure I like and it''s in platinum. I like a yellow gold band with white prongs. I know, the trend is for platinum or white gold, but give it another 5 or 10 years, and the trend will be back to yellow gold again I bet - hehe.

I want something well made with comparable quality diamond to my center stone that won''t empty my pocketbook. Does anyone know of any custom designers in the Washington, DC, (I live south of Annapolis) area? I would prefer to sit down with someone and design this in person. I can purchase my own side stones if necessary.

Thanks everyone,

Diamondlil

Hello out there . . . Judging by the lack of response, no one knows of any designers in the Washington metro area? Help.

I don't know of any designers to help you out... but I'm looking for some/ANY designer recommendations or where to look/who to ask in the Georgia area. I live in central Georgia (macon) but traveling to Savannah/Atlanta and such aren't out of the question... if ANY of you can help us, PLEASE DO!!

I'm not really familiar with your area diamondlil, if you are near Dulles, VA there is a Finks in the Dulles Town Center. Finks if a well respected jeweler that started in Roanoke and has grown from there. My ring was custom made out of the Norfolk, VA store and I love it. They have always been wonderful to deal with. Finks can be found on the web at finks.com however the web site stinks, but it will give you the address.

hope that helps

Thank you, lesliez, for responding. I'm a little disappointed that I did not get any other recommendations in the DC area. Although Dulles is a little over an hour from my home, I have no problem driving there if they can work with me. I'll give them a call tomorrow and see what they say. In the meantime, if anyone knows of any other designers in the DC metro area, please respond.

Aras Jewelers on Rt. 355 in Rockville, Maryland is a small family owned jeweler that does a lot of custom work in this area. I imagine they are up to the challenge, particularly if you can show them something like what you want - you mean #842 on the Vatche website - right? This doesn't look too complex. Give them a call - they're in the book.

The best thing is to go straight to the source - the benchmen. I can't off the top of my head think of someone in your immediate area. BTW, I travel an hour to have my stuff worked on. My advice has always been - shop the little "craftsperson" stores & find someone who is a Goldsmith (generic term). Contact the Arts Council - they may be able to point you in the right direction.
