Looking for ideas on how to set 4.10 carat pink sapphire

I bought this 4.10 carat pink sapphire last year and it has been sitting in a box. My husband is considering getting it set for me for Christmas so I am looking for ideas on what to do with it. I know that I want it to be a pendant and I want it to be something more than just a basic basket/prong setting. Maybe add some diamonds or other gemstones? Maybe set it in a pave halo--but in a circle shape?

I''ve been thinking about it for months and am rather stumped so I''m looking for ideas. Pictures hugely appreciated.

I have a 5 sided stone that I really, really considered putting into a circle halo. I decided against it in the end, but I think it would look really stunning. I''ll be doing something similar to this:

I wish I had photo shop. I have a great design in my head and I will try to describe it.

Set the stone in a basket with the point attaching to a bezel set round diamond.


So you would have the pink stone basket set in a white metal, preferebly platinum but white gold would do. with the point being towards your face. Then with a tiny ring you attach a bezel set diamond, maby 1/2 ct or so in a thin bezel. Then have a chain attaching to the bezel so the penant part is stationary and does not slide around the chain.

I hope I''m describing it OK. I think it would be stunning.

Hi IslandDreams...this is just an idea...sorry, but all I have is Paint right now too...I am not sure if you want to go white gold/Platinum or yellow gold, but just an idea...and thanks for the fun of trying it :}

Hmm, the drop idea is interesting. I couldn''t afford a diamond of the right size. Maybe another gemstone?

What about an amythest? Those are not expensive and purple and pink would be really sharp! And then if you ever want to do a diamod instead, you would only need to reset the bezel but you stil lhave the chain and the sappihre set.

Hey asscherisme, my thoughts exactly!!! Utoh IslandDreams, you know what they say, when two minds think alike - lol I now know for sure I am addicted to PS...I am driving along the road and all of a sudden, say out loud, " Of course, an amythest would go perfect with that pink sapphire, gotta suggest that to IslandDreams!" I hope no one saw me talking to myself - lol

You also mentioned a halo-type setting. I found these while looking for pendant ideas for my diamond-shaped amethyst (similar to the cut of the yellow stone below). You could have yours set with just one of the halos... or both if you like lots of bling!

I was so excited when I found those. I always loved the cut of gemstone trillions, but never knew how you could set it. Now I know exactly!!

Portia--If you figure out how much the Bloom or Blossom pendants are please post it. I contacted the company via email but haven''t gotten much from them yet. They work through local jewelers and there are none in my area. I gave them my ZIP code but haven''t heard back yet. If there is an interent vendor that deals in this line, please post a link.

LizzieC. I''m not sure on the mm of my stone. I will have to take it to a local jewler and find out. It''s decent size, but needs something surround it so it shows up better. The Bloom and Blossom pendants are perfect...some regular halos could work too.
