Hi:

I am wondering where I can buy loose 1-5 pointer diamonds good cut and quality, EF/VVS/VS, and how much should I expect to pay for them and also, how can I tell if they are a good cut?

Thanks

Most of the vendors here on PS can assist you with finding well cut melee upon request... As a vendor, we can''t address the question pertaining to price. The lens configurations on our Sarin machine do not enable us to measure diamonds weighing less than 0.10 carats with any accuracy, however melee is cut in different qualities the same way that larger diamonds are - basically those of us who work with melee tend to purchase better goods from the same cutters who we purchase larger ideal cut diamonds from and there is a visible difference between it and the melee produced / sold by other cutters if that makes sense. Be sure to let whoever you decide to contact know the number of diamonds that you require and consider buying a few extra because it''s a real pain to have to stop and order more in the middle of a job. Be extremely careful when opening the parcel paper / envelope that they arrive in because they have a tendancy to literally "spring" from the paper when opened - in other words, open it on a clean, flat surface and definitely not in mid-air (I''ve seen it happen and it''s scary!). Another thing that is important is whether the diamonds are going to be prong set or channel set because they need to be calibrated for outside diameter more precisely if they are going to be channel set.

let whomever is making your ring source the diamonds.

I agree with Belle here.

The "best" person to select the stone is the person who has to set them, and have the finished product looking it''s best.

Many people try to source small stones, thinking they can save $$$. Many times, they are dissappointed because the setter refuses to set stones (if they do QUALITY work) that aren''t matched well.

Some people in the trade match stones far better than others. Even some diamond dealers don''t do it well. You need to put in a decent amount of time matching diameters, tables, clarities, colors and depths, so the item comes out the "best".

Many diamond dealers just put diamonds from a parcel in a sieve, and those that "drop" through are considered to be matched. The question really is "how well matched" were the diamonds in the parcel?

so if I let my jeweler get me the melee, how can I ensure that I am getting good cut and quality as small stones like that don''t come with certification?
