Hi All,

We are looking for a nice round sapphire for an engagement ring. We would like to go un-enhanced because we like the sparkle we get from lighter stones. We also are looking to get a tension setting, which means the stone must be less than ~1.3 carats. Here is a picture of a gorgeous stone we love, but is too big. Any ideas where we can get one like this but a bit smaller?

Thanks a lot! :-)

We really love this color too, but we''re afraid topaz is too soft for a tension setting. (It''s right at the limit, 8 Mohs)

Second that !

And it needn''t be too big in a tension setting slightly narrower than the stone, like this one:

In case anyone is interested, here is the tension setting that we have our hearts set on (BTW, it GelinAbaci style TR-025). Any opinion on how a sapphire will look in it?

Thanks!

You mean a blue sapphire such as the one from Richard Homer?! It will take my breath away!

You said the stone has to be 6.3mm and the round sapphire is 6.5... which should not be a problem (even hard to notice).

Will G&A set your stone ? I know there are certainconditions they pose for diamonds (at least medium girdle and at least VS2), but I have no idea about sapphires.

For what that matters, versions of that setting either in Ti or platinum with a 'bridge' ring under the girdle of the stone (not tension, but very look-alike) are done.

If you really likethe look of Richard Homer cut gems and don''t see one on his site that meets your requirements, do call him. He has options beyond what has been posted on the site and he is a pleasure to work with.

Thanks, Gale :-)! We''ll definitely look into contacting Richard Homer directly.

Seen this one ?

I just found this thread & am drooling at the idea of a Richard Homer cut sapphire in the tension setting you posted!

Did you decide on a stone/setting?
