I just happened to notice this yesterday after reviewing some photos I took. I took my loop to take a look and can see the same thing as well.

What do you guys think? What kind of risk does this pose? What are my options?

Thanks!

I'm sorry to hear that. Was the girdle very thin to begin with? If so, there are a few options. One is to polish out the chip as well as get the girdle faceted to thin or medium at the same time. Alternatively, you can bezel the stone. Option 1 will allow you to enjoy your current setting.

Yes, the risk is there if the girdle is extremely thin. If I bought a stone with a girdle that was very thin. I would either set in a bezel or do the girdle rehab to make it less thin. But maybe yours isn't since it didn't come up before you had it set? Does it have a GIA report?

The certificate states the girdle as "thin to medium faceted", so it's not extremely thin.

Erica e-mailed me and said it could be a "natural" and I know there are a few plotted on the certificate (pavilion).

I think I'll take it to a gemmologist to confirm.

Oh great! I hoped that would be the case that the girdle was not too thin! I'll bet it is a natural.

My diamond has a natural that looks like that.

I thought I had chipped my previous 3.48 too, but it was just the natural . :) I hope that's all it is for you.

Thanks ladies, you have put me more at ease. :saint:
