I am not as awesome as Miss Lorelei, nor do I have beautiful brown eyes, but this one has real potential. ( I hear you on the feeling like a marathon runner with this stuff!)
The girdle is really just in the medium to *on the edge of* slightly thick range so no worries there.
You have checked already re: eyeclean and no negative fluoro effects?
GIA rounds #s so it would be nice to get an IS pic for comfort- can you get one?

I am sure Miss L and BEG will get to you soon, but since I was on I thought I would jump in now.

Ha ha you posted your IS while I was posting!
You picked a winner - please confirm the eyeclean and no negative fluoro effects?

Lemme run real quick and price check..

ETA: GIA reportcheck is down 'system is temporarily unavailable, try again later' so I can't make sure that I am comparing apples to apples with regards to cut, but the price actually looks quite high compared to what I am seeing when I run it. We can try later - by then I am sure Miss L will be along (she likely will be waking soon), and hopefully BEG will see this too!
I would actually expect a bit of a slight discount for the sb fluoro in a D color.

Here''s the photo...

You are gorgeous to respond! Really, the title is an inside joke (reference) to my last thread in LIW!
They offered to look at some stones for me - but, alas, at that stage, I had nothing concrete to go forward on!

Do now!

Hi Lara,

Congrats on finally getting the go-ahead!!! I can''t comment on your stone choice, but I just wanted to make sure you are aware that import duties and customs fees on a purchase of that value will probably be around the $3,000 mark. Basically you can expect to pay around 15% of the Australian dollar value of any purchase (5% import duty plus 10% GST). Apologies for pointing out the obvious if you were already aware of this, just didn''t want you to be in the same uncomfortable position I was when I had to explain this to my husband after thought we had already paid for my ring in full.

Good luck!!!

Thank you so much for the info, Softly!

ETA: Do you know if that custom/import duty apply to unset stones, as well as set jewellery?

I don''t have any advice re stone or taxes, but I''m so happy you''re finally getting your upgrade

Wow, the pic looks really beautiful. I edited by above post with regards to price, but there was quite a bit of activity while I was editing (the new pic, etc)
To recap the edit, the price looks actually a little high
15.gif
but the GIA reportcheck is down right now. There should be a little discount for the sb fluoro in a D, and I also wanted to make sure I was comparing apples with apples with regards to cut. Hopefully GIA reportcheck will be back up by the time Lorelei and BEG find this thread!

Are you in the UK? There was a recent thread about prices over there maybe not being as off as usually perceived. Lorelei had recommended trying Dr. Indira London at the Royal Diamond Exchange and I also admit I have always been intrigued by her posts (she seems very educated and interested in cut, etc) and I myself would likely look into purchasing from her if I were in the UK.

ETA:
Oh blast it I see that you are actually an Aussie (reference to Aussie $$ in previous post)
9.gif
- scratch Dr. London then I guess.
How about looking into Holloway (Precious Metals) or Jogia Diamonds? A lot of the Aussie types seem to have had luck there lately and reported it saved $$.

Thank you so much Brooklyn Girl, I appreciate your post!

Smily-face :)

I am so sorry you lost your post! I ahve found in similar circumstances, that if I simply hit the ''back'' button, I can recover what I have written! Luckily, the field does not seem to be cleared when you hit ''Submit''.
Try it for next time.
Do you find it shockingly overpriced? I would like to offer the ''correct'' price, rather than let it go immediately... I might have an opportunity to see the guy in person...

On initial perusal yes - too over priced for me to even consider even if I super liked the person and really wanted my $ to go to him/her, but I would like to make sure that the cut is not terrible on the ones I am comparing it to before saying absolutely.
I am seeing (all GIA) more in the mid 7 to highish 8K range, with one that is a strong blue fluoro for just under 6K (the main one I want to check cut parameters on to compare)

ETA:
yes if you can get correct pricing and offer him a fair price and see the stone in person, then let's get you some data so that you can show him what else you can get!

Yes, let's! I'd love to be able to walk away with the stone ... at the fair price.

I did suspect that it may have been somewhat overpriced...

I'm nervous about conversations on price, but I have to grow up , because I would feel bad overpaying knowing how hard my husband has to work for me to have the privilege of this (or other similar) stone!

I am like that too - but I always feel more comfortable if I have print outs in hand of comparable things that are priced differently so that it is clear it is just a fair conversation. It makes it much easier to have!

I saw a GIA graded E SI2 1.32 strong blue on James Allen''s database (although I suspect it was not inhouse) for $6920...

As far as I am aware. This link should have all the relevant info

http://www.customs.gov.au/site/page.cfm?u=4226

Yup you will still pay duties something also to consider Lara absolutely no Aussie insurance company will insure an unset stone, I should know I called all of them.

The duties if I recall correctly are 16.5% it is a fair bit, you might be better off shopping on home shores with the exchange rate an duties have you thought about Jogia diamonds or calling Gary in Melbourne?

I dread to think how much my e-ring would cost if he were to buy it now from OS

Ok down to business!!! I think I know which vendor the diamond is from so no worries there, do you like the idea of SB fluorescence and do you want a colourless diamond?

Hi Lorelei,
I know, it''s a classic, isn''t it?!
Did you see how the story finished up?
3.gif

this morning...!

Yes, I would prefer to shop local if I could, but it seems that the government taxes and general business environment makes it harder to get a reasonable value-for-money??

I *do* like the SB and the D colour was appealing to me - I think I might be slightly colour sensitive, because I do appreciate the icy whiteness of the colourless as they show up on the computer screen, that''s typical, champagne taste (beer budget) *coughs*

However, I guess above all I should be pragmatic, I have severely fallen in love with this diamond for some reason, but am prepared to ''think laterally'', and especially to buy overseas if it seems ridiculous for me not to.

I am interested in the upgrade policies vendors *coughs again* but I am wondering just how practical such a policy is for someone who lives overseas from the vendor?

I just got back to this thread after checking how the story finished up LOL!!!

Ok, the cut of the diamond looks great, verify it is eyeclean to your standards next by checking with the vendor - he will be completely honest with you. If you have fallen in love with this diamond then thats as good a reason as any to seriously consider it for purchase!

As to the upgrade policy I know of other PSers who live outside the USA who have used these policies no problem so you do have the option in the future.

Woohoo! I'm so glad I decided to check PS before bed - I'm so so excited for you Lara!!!

The diamond looks really, really nice! I'm with you on color-sensitivity - if it's eye-clean and you don't mind fluorescence, it looks like a great pick!

I'm sorry I can't help with the import taxes
7.gif
If you're looking though, to buy from WF or GOG or one of the other great vendors here, how about some of these?

1.2 D VS2 - more expensive though

1.22 F SI1 from WF - under $10K

Lara, so happy for you!
From memory, you will pay the 10% on unset stones, and the 15% as described by other posters on a set ring - but its not a flat 15% , so make sure you check that link from SS.
If you are going to buy the stone from o/s, also get it set there - Dee is right, you will not be covered here and its just not worth the risk.

I have to ditto Dee also on this one - the exchange rate is soo rubbish right now, you may get better value staying within our humble shores?
I know you have your heart set on a diamond from a PS vendor, but Jogia comes highly recommended too.

I'm sorry, I don't want to dampen your spirits, you are so deserved of this, I just want you to get the biggest bestest rock possible !
Please do check out Jogia Diamonds and ask him what he has in your budget - they also deal in H&A stones.

Lara, you are adorable! I went and found your thread so that I could understand your reference to past posts. Now I feel like cheering! So glad I am getting to meet you a bit.
I have still had a little trouble with the links (USA certed has some identical report #s for different sized stones) - now with the posts from AJ, Deelight, and BEG about looking closer to home, would you still like me to check on prices here? I have a feeling the answer is yes, because you mentioned in LIW that you had been 'visiting' a stone before the all out go ahead. Is it the one you posted?
3.gif

YAY! A upgrade for you! I''m so thrilled for you! Is there any particular reason why your going so high on the color though? If your getting a well cut round, you can easy go to G or H in color and not see anything (unless your super color sensitive) and then you can get more stone for your buck!

here and here and here. Im so excited! YAY for the "end" of the run (well you''ve really just kinda got started,
31.gif
)

Smiley face, perhaps it will explain the dynamic with my husband better if I explain that he is 6'4' and I am 5' nothing?
So far he has tried to talk me into using 'my ring money' for shelves in the garage, and for a new larger fridge!
I told him I was going to tell 'the American girls' on him.
I think he gets the picture.
2.gif

Yes, this is the stone I've been visiting for some time now! My teeth are starting to grind with the anxiety!
20.gif

Wow red rose, you have picked out some sterling stones there! They look fantastic!
In relation to value for money then, perhaps this stone is not sooo out of whack?
I am interested in shopping local, and this stone is local, so...
But if it seems reasonable that I should present some information so as to hopefully persuade the guy to come down a little in price, so much the better...

I am kinda hung up on this stone.
I am worried that by posting it, I will increase the chances of someone else snaffling it, from under my nose. I have called the guy, and he has promised to call me the instant someone else calls to express interest in it.

After I posted this thread I kinda got nervous and wanted to get Ali to shelve it, just in case!!
I just can't get in to see it until next week, as I live in the boondocks...

36.gif
Yay! You finally are getting your upgrade!!!
36.gif

So happy for you darlin!
35.gif

So is this a stone a local vendor has in stock - if so yay, that means you can see it in person!!!

Just wondering though, if it is indeed one that the vendor has in stock why is the price being quoted in $US? I realise this vendor would/will have bought the diamond for a US dollar price, but if he doesn''t give you and Aussie dollar price then the price is not fixed and will fluctuate with the currency which is great if our dollar goes up, but not so good if it goes down before you buy as even a couple of cents per dollar will make a huge difference.

Good luck bargaining!

Hrmm..ditto, I''m a lil confused. How come we were discussing duties etc if its a local vendor..?
Either way, still happy for you Lara!

I just put it in USD so the US girls would have something to go on... becase I am considering OS as well, most of the vendors mentioned on PS are US local, so I thought I might as well compare apples with apples...
sorry for the confusion!

Now I get it. Can''t wait to hear how it looks in person.
