Lost an ACA from my 5 stone ring...

My long necklace has 17 x 0.15 carat ACA's set two inches apart. I usually wear it doubled up so hadn't really planned on a short version.

I love, love, love the single DBTY as in your photo. It has long been on my wish list to have one. I think I want a 0.74 ct (birth year) and have been watching the Whiteflash inventory for one in F (all my stones). My hesitation has been fixed or not, to prevent the dreaded flipping, and I have settled on fixed recently. I have a miki sliding single pearl pendant and the clasp always moves to the front. Same with my reset princess ER pendant on a bale. I want to try a fixed pendant next.

Your collection is fantastic! So well curated across diamonds, branded pieces and pearls! I appreciate how generous you are with us, sharing your stories! Thank you!

A single fixed 0.74ct F sounds lovely! It’ll be so worth it when one pops up :)

Just a caution: my necklace still rotates so the clasp faces forwards sometimes. I think it’s because the clasp is heavier than the diamond itself. As you’re looking at a bigger diamond, hopefully it’ll help mitigate that issue.

Thanks for your kind words - PS is a wonderful community and I’ve learned a huge amount from everyone here!

If you’re still considering a DBTY style necklace, it won’t be pokey if it has a proper flat basket so that the culet isn’t touching your skin. However, that will make it more prone to flipping. It can be mitigated somewhat by having a thicker and/or less flexible chain, but then that doesn’t look as delicate. So there’s unfortunately trade offs all around!

How about a lariat style necklace with one stone at the top and three below in a line? You won’t need any additional stones that way!

It actually looks like you are at risk of loosing the opposite side stone as well. See how it has popped out of the end notch on the outside prong?

I got his setting (a year ago) because when I said I planned on wearing my 5-stone every day, they said this setting was very secure for daily wear.

@RMOO I'm curious if you know the width and delth/thickness of the shank on your five stone?

I have come to the conclusion that there is no perfect jewelry. There are always tradeoffs. Flipping vs twisting, vs light and airy vs tank...

By my calipers the width of the shank is 3.6mm wide and 2.3mm thick right right next to the baskets and tapers to 3.4mm wide and 1.7mm thick at the very bottom (palm side.) The ACA stones and setting are from Whiteflash.

How wide and thick in your shank on this ring MGR?

I’d say at least 3mm. I have to say that this ring has worn like a tank! I bought this ring years ago from Bill Pearlman at Pearlman’s Jewelers. He explained Memoire’s manufacturing process and while I didn’t pay much attention, he really knew what he was preaching. You do not see the sides of the diamonds through prongs, but the fact that I haven’t even had a loose stone in all these years makes up for it.

Yes those are tank settings for sure!

My five stone that is in the works is more delicate and now I am nervous lol!

It looks very similar to mine, but I have one thicker prong on each end instead of two single. I'm sure that will help keep it snug! The more prongs the better.

Each of your stones has six prongs so I think they will be super snug in there! I would do this if I reset them.

I never wear the lariat with two... I think it feels too dressy.

I agree nothing is perfect. I honestly would have had fun with a reset if it was my choice... not a fan of being forced into it. Of course it could have been my center stone from the 3 stone so I'm grateful it was one of these for sure!

I didnt realize you had a Butterfly...just looked at it and it's beautiful! Its side stones only have 3 prongs. You should
compare those side stone settings with your 5-stone setting to see the difference. I agree with @RMOO , the
other side stone in your 5-stone ring looks like it's in danger.

I have an idea!!!! What if I trade in one of the older stones (no idea which I lost, even with the loupe can't read the inscriptions, but they were $900-1000) for a bigger solitaire pendant. Then I reset the three I have left into a little three stone! I would have to pay all the setting fees (maybe with a metal credit) but would get something I've been wanting and something I would like! The three stone would be small but I think I'm OK with that. I could probably even upgrade to slightly larger stones for the three littles. Is that crazy?

The ring is in a drawer until I decide what to do with it. No need to lose more stones!

Yes this was part of my considerations! Its actually semi-bezels between the stones and at the ends and also split prongs. So most of the diamonds are encircled. My shank is more delicate though, but maybe I am not bionic like you!

I think it was the shank deformation that caused the issues, not the prongs per se, so a thicker shank in 14k might be the solution.

No, you will keep a close eye on it and make sure it has no loose stones! I chose a five stone over eternity because it was going to be a right hand ring. Car doors, grocery carts etc. would have probably done a job on an eternity for me. Even so, I am aware of my five stone on my right hand when out and about. However, the sturdy, plain shank on the palm side has saved a lot of wear and tear on my soul! You will be fine - you have waited a long time for completion and I am excited for you to finally have your ring!

I think this is a great idea, provided you actually wear the three stone, since you already have your main 3-stone!

Would you wear the three stone with your three stone engagement ring or use it as a right hand ring? I like the larger pendant idea!

Ha! It would be a travel/work ring. I only wear my big one on days off.

I’ve been looking at photos and really like the sholt semi-bezel or a full bezel style. I wouldn’t even need to size them up, maybe just the center.

I’m still percolating the ideas but this one may have traction!

Travel/work ring. I’m not sure.

I like the idea of using one for a pendant. I think I could easily get to a 0.7ish current budget wise. I may just sit on the other three. I’ve been wanting a round pendant forever but felt slightly guilty because I have my original ER princess as one but I didn’t like it as a ring and don’t like it as a pendant (shhhh).

Well, sounds like a plan! Lips are sealed about the princess pendant - maybe a bracelet down the road with the princess cut bezeled?

and gorgeous. I recently tried on several Memoire pieces and wanted them all. Beautifully executed.

Or match Princess in earrings? I think they'd be beautiful.

I like the idea of sizing up the centre, I feel like a 3-stone where all the stones are the same size looks a bit weird to me. I usually expect to see that more as a 5+stone. And a round solitaire pendant is a classic!

I think a sleek bezel setting is a good idea - it’s out of the way and usually more secure.

I love this style for three stones the same size. These are antique styles but it’s easily adapted to modern with a white metal and a brushed finish for example.
