So I have a 1.64 ct Square Cushion Red spinel coming to me from ATG I want to set it in a ring. I was thinking of going to logr for the setting, but i'm not sure he can do exactly what i want and i also don't know how good it will look. What i'm thinking of doing is a prong set halo (with diamonds) with a pave split shank with sapphires the halo and head in rose gold and the band in white. Does anyone know if Logr ever does pave work with stones other then diamonds? Also how would the rose gold part look good in contrast with the sapphires?

Honestly I wouldn't give that amount of customisation to LOGR. Also, I would want to pick the sapphires myself rather than let somebody pick them for me (who knows what they would be like or what treatments they would have had).

LOGR is great for standard settings with perhaps a tweek of customisation i.e. changing the head size, changing the colour of the metal etc but, personally, I wouldn't ask them to do more. Not only would I be worried about the quality, I'd also be highly concerned about the language barrier. What you want is very specific and you clearly have a "look" in mind. Far better to sit with somebody or at least deal with somebody in your own language for this.

I tend not to be very fond of red stones in rose gold. I don't think the coppery shades do much to make the red pop.

I think you are trying to push LoGR a bit too far, specially since their quality seems to be lower than it was in the past. There is a PS that has nice pave pieces from an etsy jeweller - I think the name was Laurie or Sarah, but I have to look it up.

I think it is way too risky:
1. We don't know the quality of those sapphires
2. LOGR does customizations but only very basic ones such as changing the metal colour or basket resizing, from what I've seen. What you are looking for is best undertaken by a reputable and highly skilled custom design company.
3. There are many different shades of rose gold depending on the alloy, so this adds to the risk.

So another question If i was just to get the ring made with a diamonds on the split shank how hard would it be to replace them with blue sapphires at a later time?

The labour cost will not be cost effective (might cost more than the melees themselves). Not only that, if the setting and prongs are not sturdy enough, your benchperson may not be willing to risk a switcheroo.

You should go with a highly reputable design company and work with them to get the sapphires you want in the first place. You should not begin with an inexpensive setting and expect to modify it at a later date.

I think LoGR casts melee in place (instead of setting by hand), which would make the switch even harder (and more labour intensive). Perhaps it would be better to get a plain shank and latter add pave to it, but I think this is something you really should try to get right straight off.

As LadyD says, LOGR cast with diamonds in place. I have lost one melee and my jeweller has told me that it's going to be very very very difficult to replace and much more time consuming than it would be with a handmade piece where the prongs are far easier to work with.

agree with the other posters, and especially this. I think you are just asking for a world of trouble, and likely it will end up costing you more than you believe you initially save.

Have a look around at the various PS or etsy vendors that offer custom work - this is not a job for LOGR.

Can I also say, its your ring so you should do whatever makes you happy - but it sounds like you want to squeeze quite a few colours/elements into the one ring..this is also where working with a proper custom jeweller with a decent 'eye' will come in handy, as they will be able to guide you whether it will actually end up looking like whats in your mind..

Thanks For all your help folks its much appreciated.

I believe you can do a custom setting with LOGR should you choose to pursue that route, but I do not know if they will do other color melee. The other thing is quality. If this is a special ring, well, I'll be honest, I do LOGR only for daily wear, not for special rings.

It would be worth it for you to get what you want the first go round with out resorting to making changes later on.
