Magical purple spinel!

Just scored this sleepy, 1.10 ct purple spinel on ebay for a good price. I realize the clarity is not perfect, but to I had to have it for the glowing color. I'm thinking rose gold for the setting, but I'd love to hear thoughts on metal color as well as setting ideas. I'll be sure to update when I receive the stone. EDIT: Does anyone know if this color is somewhat rare?

AHHHH! That is SO great!

I would say if its that bright in hand, it wouldn't matter what color metal if the stone manages to pop that much.

Personally I would choose a white metal or lighter rose gold. Some rose gold can be a bit coppery, almost orange, and that could take away from such a lively color!

Rare, yes, but also a very classic colour and also the silk is typical spinel effect.

Looks 100% like Ceylon spinel. Is that right?

Ed, the vendor has listed the gem as Tanzanian, but who knows? This spinel looks similar, http://www.etsy.com/listing/160628140/old-european-cut-oec-sleepy-periwinkle?ref=market so I suppose it is possible.

Very interesting spinel; it's the colour I like but I've not seen one so silky. As with the rest, I think rose gold will be lovely and look forward to your review.

It's here!! The weather is not good right now so I am having a difficult time taking a decent picture. I am really, really happy with this one! The color is more purple than blue, no gray, with flashes of pink. Now that I have the stone in hand, I think that white gold would be the best choice of metal.

The sun finally came out, so I grabbed some more pictures! Still basically impossible to capture the depth of the gorgeous color, unfortunately. This morning, I noticed that the stone seemed more purple, but in the sun, it actually shifts to a rich, almost Kashmir blue. I'm in love.

Can anyone give me a rough estimate as to value? The stone is 1.1 ct.
