Athenaworth,
I'm not sure what you are looking for; are you looking for something redder or are you looking for something with strong saturation? Personally, I'd rather a hot pink stone with strong saturation over a red stone with medium saturation but that's just me. The least flattering light for my Mahenge is those dreadful plain fluorescents but it never browns out nor desaturates. It remains strongly saturated but is a smidge darker in tone. Indoors under natural lighting, the stone performs fabulously as well. Unfortunately, I agree that the holy grail of Mahenges (like all other holy grails) will take time and of course, money. It is getting incredibly difficult to find strongly saturated red or neon pink spinels these days unless one is willing to pay up the wazoo.
