MellowYellow's odds and ends

@DiaDiva Hmm but US is so much more expensive in comparison... argh still dunno what to do with my new diamond

I’m going to SIJE but not much budget after the diamond sigh
Haha yes they are better than any pics I can take!

Going to donate my $800 pink sapphire (like ring and stone!!!!) bought many moons ago to Lil Sis.

Oooh I'll look into that IMM place @icy_jade

Or I might just hit the local shops. I haven't been to a single department store yet other than the fruit section of Isetan!

Buy a ticket and come visit me this weekend :P

You can shop for cheaper jade, reclaimed teak pieces, local mangos, climb up pagodas, affordable art, cheap body and foot massage, fine dining at lower pricepoints than SG & Oz!

Any pics or link to your new diamond?

CONGRATS! AWESOME FIND AND DECENT PRICE.

You did well. I sound like a proud mum for once instead of smacking you down! :lol-2:

No. Pink tourms are NOT the same as pink sapphires.

In my defence I usually vaguely know when something is dodgy. I just get tempted and need to be yelled at. I find it easier to walk away after being yelled at.

Ok so I've got no money left (in terms of jewellery) so the one thing I set out to buy here I haven't bought!

Should I just wear WG diamond studs whenever I need RG earrings? And save for a pair of White jade feather earrings set in RG?

Okay here is a better pic of it!!! This is what I see in real life. Some beads are better than others.

Dont yell @Burmesedaze. Let me have this one!

By the way judging by the price of greens I'm really glad I bought my green strand a while back. I think that was all I can afford/feel comfortable paying until Pink Bandit lets me visit you!

Guys it came back unheated of Sri Lankan origin :eek-2:

I am beyond thrilled obviously!!! Pink Bandit fell in love with it. Hehe I was outside the store trying to ask him if I should be a good wife and go for a pink tourmaline instead. That was my pink stone aim to save $$$.

Pink Bandit was like "hmm I'm not sure tourmaline will look like that colour. Just buy it and don't try to be cheap. "

Haha we were like 2 blocks from home when we got the call and I was like "hmm too far to walk back I'll come back tomorrow."

Pink Bandit was like "Nooo go pick up your unheated pink ring"

So he had to carry the 20kg 5yo all the way back to the hotel in the heat because I promised the 5yo I'd carry him home.

Poor Pink Bandit was in charge of our kid all morning, shelled out $3k plus for a pink ring he can't wear and then had to take on my child rearing shift!

I've got a free day tomorrow (don't care for the science centre) so now I'm thinking of what to do. Nooo more money so any point in going to Chinatown?

Maybe I just go look for cheap kitchenware or something?

@Burmesedaze and @icy_jade Asiatique had the loveliest pair of unheated pink sapphire earrings in a halo! Would have matched my ring perfectly. Alas no more money!

I'm trying to load the photos of the earrings for you @Burmesedaze but my phone isn't downloading the pics.

What a day!!!! What an adventure!!! More pics tomorrow!!!!!

Congratulations on the unheated hot pink find! What a way to commemorate your trip to Singapore! What an awesome sport your Pink Bandit is. Please post many pictures.

Haha you are welcome. Where else to shop for CS in Sg anyone?

Btw threadjack but any rec for places to set stuff? Decent workmanship and pricing...

I want to know this too!

I have heard of these places for setting: Josi Gems, Yuen Tung and Madly Gems. Madly Gems has a gorgeous Instagram page.

You have roughly 10 months to just over a year to convince him as that's just how much longer my stint is.

I can offer nice pools where I'm staying. There's also an outdoor and indoor play area for kids! Topdown view of the pools taken from my apartment.

@Seaglow come visit soon!

Madly gems will be madly pricey. Yuen Tung I read about them from another forum. They have a Facebook page.

Sadly, the bench I used to go to at Far East let me down. Total crap, unresponsive and I had to make 4 wasted trips over 8 months to get my stones back since they wouldn't pick up my calls or reply my whatsapp msgs. Pls avoid.

I’m sorry to hear about your bad experience. Who did you use?

Still getting over the angst of not being able to have my diamond set by HPD but I just cannot justify paying 3x more than doing this locally... but gonna see if any ready made settings I’m happy with before making a final decision argh.

I’ve used Yuen Tung before but this time I may just go with Asiatique since the stuff I’ve seen so far looks good.

For the same price as doing via USA I can set my diamond in my custom design, get those stunning pink sapphire earrings AND another diamond jacket omg.

Madly Gems is stunning but madly pricey doesn’t sound good at all... sorry for the threadjack @mellowyellowgirl !

Wriston said unheated hot pink is very hard to get so congrats again!

@icy_jade Danny Fang at Far East. Just a few steps away from Nanyang lab.

The HK chaps can do custom too. Either hand set or a custom mould from us$150 extra upwards. Still works out cheaper than in US.

They only have rbs though so if you want a setting with baguettes, trillions etc you have to supply them.

No complaints about their work so far.

No worries @icy_jade

Here are some more pics! It is a gorgeous real true hot pink in real life that is just looking different through the camera for some reason.

Berrylicious and exactly your ring size too, it was meant to be yours.

Any inclusions you can see in the stone? I'm curious to know why he thought it heated to begin with.

@Burmesedaze Gem report says: fingerprint, needle, silk and repeated twinning.

I personally thought it looked very clean and clear when I saw it under the lights. When there is poor light it doesn't look as clear I guess? But it hasn't got any spots or anything like that.

Hehe I've got a good generic ring finger size. Almost everything on display fits!

What to do about non matching earrings? Keep wearing studs and hope they are not too noticeable?

So jelly of you and Seaglow. You both have generic finger sizes! I want to go for finger liposuction.

In case it's not obvious, I'm pretty easy going with gems, colours and settings. So they have very few if any problems with my setting requirements, compared to fussier local clients who are tycoons, gem traders, gem mine owners, who complain about the dainty and fine settings at times lol.

WG diamond studs are fine and classic. What do they not go with? Virtually nothing?

@mellowyellowgirl not sure what you decided but would really ask you to go to Le’Jade tmr... you have come all the way here and you need to go and see some proper jade... get a sense of colors and styles that you like... then next time you can shop online more confidently.

Tip: Ask Mr Ong to show you stuff from under the counter... Not everything is on display. They would have brought in more stock for the SIJE so it’s a good time to go and looksee.

There are malls in AU too right so no biggie if you don’t go...

Besides my last rec was good right? :Up_to_something2::lol::lol:

CONGRATS! on your beautiful new ring. :D:D

Too tired to trek out @icy_jade

Hehe I might have if I had money left since your recommendation yesterday was such a winner! Did you know I had been looking for a pink stone for a while now but didn't feel confident springing for a pricier bright pink stone like a sapphire or spinel. Returns from Australia are daunting.

Hehe so my plan was to wait for a pink tourmaline but I was fussing over the shade of pink!

So thank you sooooooo much!!!!!!

Window shopping at the closest mall is calling to me today. I've got to find laundry powder to do a load of laundry of all things!

Lavender jade necklace

You can do the jade run on your next trip back! Singapore is really not far from Australia, after all  The necklace looks great.

Omg me too!!! I actually really admire those that are thorough with their settings. I'm just terrible with details and couldn't hone in on specific details even if I tried.

I've got a few straight forward things I don't like (most bezels) but other than that you should read my instructions to JD. They are shockingly basic lol.

I really like premade settings. You know what you're in for cuz you can see it upfront! Hehe I'm just not a classy gal

Share your instructions!!! Like..halo? Yes. Sparkle and blingy? Yes. Fru fru enough but not too much pls?

My jeweller has to rein me in on my intended purchases at times lol.

Honestly too stressed with work here and gem hunting destresses me. Then I get impatient to wear them but I don't want additional stress from fussing over the settings and generally what can go wrong with halos???

Haha I think last time I sent a pic I found and said "Can you please make it look like this but with better prongs and a fancy basket."

To my credit I did send a pic of a basket!

I must admit I'm not really creative and it's very predictable what settings I would like. Haha the pink sapphire halo is new to me! Omg an oval in a cushion halo. That's me living on the edge!

And totally agree that not much can go wrong with halos. I don't even mind a lot of the bezel halos I see and I have a passionate dislike for bezelling most of the time.

@Burmesedaze Did you decide on your ruby setting in the end?

***
Mmmm I had the nonya laksa at Ion and chicken wings. Sooooo good! Should have bought extra noodles. Will have to eat that again with extra noodles! I'm such an Asian I'm not missing western food at all.

The necklace is so good in this heat!!! Keeps me cool!

This morning Pink Bandit side eyed the necklace and said "I can see you wearing that insipid necklace for the rest of our holidays."

@Burmesedaze how fast is this thing going to fade?
