Moi et moi ring

My suggestion is to not buy any more stones and use what you have. I like the ones you chose and I think accenting with white diamonds in a white setting would look amazing. You don’t need a halo necessarily though, even just a stripe going diagonally across the middle would be neat.

Oh yeah, I'm definitely at that point. I figured if I start setting them, it will slow down my buying. I just had my first CAD done on another stone! Anyway, thanks!!

I’m in the same boat. I have been buying used settings to get some of my stones set but somehow new stones keep showing up in the mail….

I don't know if you have the same issue, but mine is that I am first and foremost a gem lover, as opposed to a jewelry person. So whenever I have some extra cash, I instinctually want to put it into the stones and not the jewels. But I do feel that gems need to be set to fully enjoy them. Staring at them in a box just isn't doing it for me anymore! :P2

Exactly!! It’s fun to collect the stones and I enjoy playing with the gems in their boxes but I do think I would enjoy the stones more if I could wear them. I do enjoy wearing jewelry but I don’t dress up much anymore and working from home doesn’t help.

On the other hand I have set a few of my stones and a couple of them don’t look as pretty in the rings as I would like. And the other issue is that now the rings spend most of their time in the jewelry box where I can’t see the stones unless I’m wearing that particular ring.

At least in my gem boxes I can see them all on display. Here’s my collection of unset stones although this isn’t all of the newest ones and I did list a few of these for sale. Not the best photo since the box is in a drawer.

Do you have a display box for yours?

Oh my stars! Just look at all of those yummy candy colors!! I must admit, they do look sort of special just chilling in their display case.

There are ring/jewelry boxes out there that have glass tops too, so you can enjoy your rings in the jewelry box! I actually just bought this one on etsy, haven't received it yet. There are more out there that have different compartments and different amount of ring rolls depending on many rings you have lol:lol-2:Screenshot_20220330-091531_Etsy.jpg

Autumn, I think the combination of those two stones has the potential to look really, really good, but I've never seen a black spinel in real life.

Tough to tell in your gem box, but does yours shine like polished ebony?

Gorgeous as is! But would also make an incredible 36 inch gems by the yard necklace too… ❤️

I have thought of doing that at some point when I decide I don’t want or need any more rings (or can’t afford them!). I have heard that it can be quite expensive to bezel each one though. It would be a pretty awesome necklace!

Hello all,

Yes, you read that correctly. There is currently no toi to this moi. lol Although I am toi-less at the moment, I would still like to partake in this le style. I usually carry a mild disdain for the latest celebrity trends, but this one I rather like. So I was looking through my stones to see which might come together nicely for such a design. I should mention than none of my stones is currently set (because every time I go to do it, I find another gem and blow the budget!). In any event, I have this 3ct. gray spinel... it's super neutral, which I love, but it could be a bit drab in a classic setting. Yet, I don't want to actually add any color, since I have a rainbow of other gems. I thought it might be cool to pair it with a black spinel, and then add a bunch of diamond melee for a monochromatic look. I'd love everyone's opinions, and please feel free to add suggestions for any other style rings that may work well for the gray spinel, with or without the black spinel. TIA!

Autumn

Sorry for another lousy photo... it's shot through the gem box, which is sort of dulling the stones. They are both completely clean. Please ignore the lint.

Possible ring design...

This is an exquisite setting! Your stones will be fabulous in a white metal (IMHO). Just to toss about another idea, have you considered stacking the stones with fewer melee and baguettes? (see photo, wrong color metal, but a little interesting twist on design) I'm sure whatever you decide on will be fabulous! Enjoy the process and please share the finished piece with us! 0_moi et toi.jpeg

Yes, so it's opaque, which of course means there is zero light return through the stone. What I paid attention to when buying it was making sure the faceting on the crown was sharp and well-polished. That's about all you can do! It's definitely not a dynamic stone by any means. I've just been itching to incorporate black into something, and I didn't want a treated stone. I looked forever for a true black diamond that was not irradiated. No such luck. ::)

Thank you for the great suggestion!! :kiss2:

Without color, it might be important to emphasize the shapes of these stones. For example, bezel the grey spinel with a generous amount of white metal and halo the black one with salt & pepper diamonds.
This is such a fun thread!

I'm glad it turned out to be an interesting topic! Thank you for commenting!! :mrgreen2:

In that case I do think it would look best with a white surround to bring out both the grey and black colors, and to ensure those colors don't tend to blend into your fingers. Not sure if the surround should just be white gold or diamonds like your fabulous inspiration ring. Easy to find what works best by holding each stone next to the shank of a white metal ring and then holding next to a diamond bracelet or diamond halo set in white gold.

I agree, thank you!!
