lol! My favorite is the one that says "post money add here".

Yes, time to make it smarter.

When I was in Europe someone asked me, "Why are all American bills the same size and color?"
Initially I thought it was a dumb question.

Then I thought about it, and it makes sense.
Different sizes prevents blind people from getting ripped off.
Different colors further prevents one bill being mistaken for another denomination.

I'm sure it's only a matter of time before the deficit will be so large that the US Mint will be selling advertising space on currency.

I've thought for a long time that American money is behind the times. People mistake the denominations all the time. I imagine it would make it harder to counterfeit as well.

I'm Canadian and find American money to be very plain and sometimes confusing. I find myself thinking I have way more money than I do, until I realize I'm carrying around 20 $1 dollar bills, what a disappointment :nono: I like that with our Canadian money I can just glance into my wallet and recognize what denomination of money I have by the colour, it makes life a little easier. But in today's age most of us (including myself) use debit or credit more often than cash.

"In fact only 3% of the US money supply exists in physical currency. The other 97% essentially exists in computers alone." Zeitgeist

I hate that our money is all one color (well, two). It's boring and I wish it was prettier.

:errrr: i love old the style...

I really like your $1 bills-I always feel like I'm loaded when I visit! I wish that instead of one euro coins they were a note instead.

I love the American $1 bills too! I miss the old $1 and $2 Canadian dollar bills we used to have. I always have to be very careful though, that I check and double check the denominations when I am using Amercian money. The Canadian bills have always been jokingly called monopoly money :cheeky: , but the colours are good for easily spotting what I need in my wallet.

I once read that all U.S. cash currency is, for the most part, minutely tainted with cocaine. Cash is king when it comes to illicit commodities, and the same hands that handle drugs handle huge quantities of cash. I watched a program last evening on the Discovery Channel called The Cocaine Cowboys, a first-person account of how cocaine was marketed in the United States from 1970 on. Archival photos and video of truckloads of cash siezed, all with a forensic trace of the ubiquitous white powder. It still circulates, as does the white powder.
We are heading toward a cashless society, or societies. Governments like this move, as every transaction is traceable.A high-tech solution to illicit trade. Love your currency now, for it will be gone within a decade. The tattoo barcode on your neck is not as far-fetched as you think.

This is a non-issue for me. I can easily see what money I have in my wallet... the numbers are just as quickly identifiable as a color in my opinion. I'd rather the government keep the "boring" money the way it is and spend its time on something more important.

I'm with GuiltyPleasure on this one.

When we were in Ireland we kept on saying how much we wish item prices always came out to nice, rounded numbers. It made it so much easier to keep track of everything when we didn't have all these small coins flying around.

Yup, and I kept thinking how much would it cost a government that is already broke to change all the machines and ink.

T-Gal, not just the money that is behind the times... How about the fact that the US is still not using the metric system?

I'd love it if the money changed. Having different sizes/colours for different denominations just makes more sense to me. It makes it easy to glance in your wallet and see roughly how much you have. No leafing through, no moving it around - just have it sorted and you can tell in an instant.

I hate $1 bills, though. I think I heard somewhere that the average lifespan of a $1 bill is 18 months - think about how much longer a coin would last!

Whilst we're on a somewhat related topic, I'd love to see tax already figured into the price of things like in Europe. I hate the way we have to look at the price, then mentally calculate the price with tax. Just add the tax in there already and have the price listed be the actual price the consumer will pay.

I want to see them eliminate the penny.
Just round everything to the nearest nickel.

agree with Kenny and Amethyste on their last points.....

BIG ditto on adding sales tax to the listed price! I can see why this is difficult when shopping online, but in physical stores there's absolutely no need to make customers mentally calculate 8.75% of the listed price

Or you could move to a state without sales tax, and then it woudn't be an issue!

I hate coins in general, but I REALLY hate pennies. I do wish prices were nice, round numbers.

I much prefer $1 bills to the 1- and 2-euro coins. When I was living in Spain, I could not handle carrying so many coins around--it was really heavy and aggravating. I turned into that weird old lady at the grocery store counting out coins from her giant sack of change. I did love, however, that the sales tax was calculated in and that prices were always in multiples of 5.

As far as the U.S. dollar's appearance, I'm not too concerned about it. It's not all that pretty, but it's distinctive, and I'm used to it. I don't really think it needs a makeover.

When we visit the US, people are always fascinated by Australian notes, 'they're so colourful!!' and they are made of some sort of plastic so they are very durable and wash well.

We have $1 and $2 coins, our smallest note is $5, so I always get sad when I have a thick wad of notes in the US and when I count it I have $13. :(sad

This and then some. Complete non issue, given the current state of our "issues".
