This thread is a great idea!
I have a lot of moody stones, I’ve noticed it the most with my garnets, then sapphires. I also live in a region where the sun disappears for 6 months out of the year, and the overcast skies seem to really bring out the moodiness in a lot of my stones.

A picture I took in a light box of my purple garnet and demantoid ring.

This pink garnet is very moody!

I don’t know how to describe this color it‘s showing in the ring makers studio lighting:lol:
Luckily I spend most of my time in natural lighting!

Here’s a pink sapphire from Gene. I think this picture showing it‘s pink side was taken in artificial overhead lighting.

@2Neezers — thank you for sharing your stunning rings. The pairings and colors bring out the flavors of moodiness. And no matter what mood, they look glorious

@elle_71125 whoops—I did a hasty love on a busy day. Seriously gorgeous the both of them. Dang I love moodiness and mystery—in my rings—not my life

All the stones and pieces have opened up additional thoughts on settings too. I’ve been afraid of going for bold pairings and am feeling more confident now. Getting ideas for a spess/tanzanite duo. Hmmmm . . .

I love this one! That color pairing is just perfect! :kiss2:

Thank you. :D
I’m also a fan of bold color pairings. I have a spess & pink spinel ring, a paraiba & pink spinel ring (my absolute favorite color combo), and a bright pink and green ring. There’s a ton of gorgeous, bold pairings on here. I think @T L has a couple and @voce has several. You know, in case you’re looking for inspiration.

Adding a Gene/ Precision Gem whiskey zircon purchased pre-loved from a lovely PSer and set into a CVB halo I already had. It goes dark/deep brown and then lights up. In this instance, I like the brown! ETA CVB glamor shots.

And here is another Mozambican purple garnet by Jeff White—also purchased preloved—and set in a CVB Camesha. It’s definitely the moodiest of the purple garnets—most likely due to its size at over 4 carats. I added CVB’s glamor shot that shows it at its darkest.

I didn't know where else to put this, but I have a new phone(I still can't figure out how to take good photos on purpose)but this camera actually shows the gem colors my eye sees and it picks up the silk banding I can only see rarely! The only thing it doesn't really do is show how neon fluorescent this stone can be-it mutes that for some reason:(( 20230920_151509.jpg

Love the moody stone concept❣️ My moody and brooding 25 x 19 Andamooka matrix opal showing most of its colors. It has some tones in real life the camera can't seem to pick up. Hoping to have this big beauty set as a convertible ring/pendant - because I want both!andamooka-matrix-comp.pngandamoo-on-finger.png

So excited to see more stones—lovely additions @ItsMainelyYou — what type of beauty is that? Dreamy color(s).

and @Ninama — gah, glorious opal. Love the convertible design vision. Can’t wait to see what it becomes.

A lovely pad colored spinel. I wish I could capture it's glow, correctly!
That's seems to be the one drawback of this fancy new camera, it dampens fluorescence:blackeye:

I found another glowy spinel that was in a box, I haven't seen it in years!
Wonky little beauty.
She's moody as well.

Whoa! Gorgeous spinels! Will you be setting?

Some moody sapphires. Sorry, not good pics in the box.

Such an interesting variety of sapphires! I love that colored stones, even from the same chemical “family”/ species, come with a spectrum of variation.

Thanks! At some point the pad will definitely be set, it's just life gets in the way.

whoa! We need some details on all these stones please!

Few untreated milky/opalescent sapphires. Few with additional color change/shift. They are moody because of their milkyness as well as color shifting. They came together over several years. All look smooth and lovely. No bad inclusions and good proportions and symmetries.

Eeeexcuse me, girl, in what world are these two considered moody? And before anyone says, “well, compared to that red spinel…” No. That is in no way a fair comparison. Go away.

Going away…

Few more moody sapphires. Very few are the same from the post before. All other I recently sold as my collection became bit to big over the time

Beautiful collection! From where did you acquire all of these?

I bought them all in the mining area during several time traveling.

I have zero clue what color this diamond is except “not green.”

Wow! That's an amazing range of colours!

I have to say that the range of background colours (presumably all the same skin) suggests inconsistent exposure and white balance. Do these colours match what you see?
