i''m pretty sure we''re keeping the stone! the more i play with it, the more i love it. hubb''s only concern was re setting and whether or not i felt like was settling for less being as i originally thought i wanted a diamond and that''s what we''d looked at together.
i have assured him that there is no way i feel like i''m settling for less, that i''m unwilling to spend the $$$ that an equivalent diamond would cost, and pointed out that the most expensive diamond we saw at over $13K in no way compared with this stone in my eyes. i wanted something unique and different and this is going to be beyond my dreams when completed. additionally, richard wise has assured us it can be set to show its beauty...perhaps a bezel cut away to show the pavillion... hubby likes the overall shape and cut of the stone and thinks a complete cone bezel won''t show it in all its glory.
i was playing with it in the sunlight this afternoon and i noticed something new: light goes through it and , it comes out as orange dots on the paper...and i do mean orange, just like the stone color face up. if i lower the stone, said dots get closer together like its channeling the sun!!!! ok, now i''m raving just like the diamond folks!
i''m not moving away from the mokume gane for the band but i want to explore options further with richard wise, especially re a girdle bezel with creative prongs.
i was again on the phone with richard yesterday and explained my husbands concerns re being able to set such a large stone. richard sent me some pictures which has pretty much sealed the deal for my husband. i can''t say enough how much i appreciate richard''s tolerance, understanding, and patience with me as a first time quality gem buyer. it has meant a lot to me that during the 7 day preview period he has been totally available to answer questions and share knowledge.
i hate to continue to gush on this one but this stone is so spectacular, it doesn''t need diamonds to enhance it. having said that, never say never: i''m keeping the option open to add some to the band!
