COME ON EILEEN!!! By Dexy's Midnight Runners.

Oh how I big puffy heart this song!

OMG ME TOO! My mom has it on one of those little records (remember those???) and we used to play it downstairs when we cleaned!

ETA-someone said Eye of the Tiger-that came on the radio when I was in the truck the other day and I had to drive around the block a couple times before I went home. I think it used to be Hulk Hogan's theme song (he had a few different ones) and it just makes me smile.

I realize it's a Doors cover, but People are Strange by Echo & the Bunnymen - it's on The Lost Boys soundtrack, which is such a quintessential 80's film for me.

what springs to mind as faves are Money for Nothing (dire straits) - ha ha, when I was a kid I always heard / sang "and CHIPS for free" instead of Chicks - lol

LOL, CasaBlanca, just to make you feel better, the song "Invisible Touch" says "She seems to have an invisible touch, yeah..." Well, DH and I were at the grocery store one night, and this song came on over the speakers. I never realized how OFF my version was until I saw the look of sympathy/horror on my husband''s face. Apparently, "She seems to have a busy bottom top shelf" doesn''t really make a lot of sense!

I need a helmet!

Thank you all for so many wonderful suggestions! My list has certainly evolved!

I am rolling on the floor laughing out loud so much so I couldn''t leave it at abbreviations! SHE SEEMS TO HAVE A BUSY BOTTOM TOP SHELF! I can''t see the screen!

I can''t tell you how many times I get that same look! WHAT??? What did I do. I swear that is right! That is the way I have sung it for years! The eye roll thing...next he says, "it is just not safe to take you out. People with straight jackets are watching!"

Thanks Doodle!

You guys are awesome! My biggest problem with this is not coming up with stuff so much as narrowing it down (like I said in my OP, I have a LOOOONG list, haha!), so I figure if certain songs are the first ones to come to mind for people, and even more so if multiple people think of that song, then that one just HAS to be on the list, you know? It''s funny to me how different songs come to mind based on where you''re from, too. I''m a Georgia girl and my husband grew up in NYC; I immediately thought of the pop and rock songs first while he immediately thought of the new wave stuff (the vast majority of the people I grew up with have probably never even heard of New Order; my husband followed them on their entire last tour!). Feel free to keep ''em coming--I welcome suggestions from all genres!

You might be able to cut a bunch by checking the release date. A lot of songs people remember as 80s are early 90s.

That said, I would want to hear "Dancing with Myself" by Billy Idol.

I have way too many ''80''s songs in my ipod. My suggestions:

David Bowie "Let''s Dance"
Phil Collins (Genesis days?) "One Night in Bangkok"
Dire Straits "I Want My MTV" (cameo of Sting)
The Police...anything!
Beastie Boys "Fight For Your Right"
Bon Jovi--the "Slippery When Wet" album
Crowded House "Something So Strong"
Janet Jackson "Pleasure Principle"
Sister Christian "Night Ranger"
Prince "Purple Rain" soundtrack
Any John Hughes movie soundtrack
"The Secret of My Success" soundtrack

That''s the tippy tip of my ''80''s iceberg!

Sorry if any of those are repeats.

This is the most fun i have had in years! It takes me back to my teenage years. I think all my favourites have been overed but here goes.

Planet Earth - Duran Duran
Golden Brown - The Stranglers
Rise - John Lydon
Wham - Wham Rap
Love Cats - The Cure
Get into the Groove - Madonna
Radio Gaga - Queen
Happy Talking - Captain Sensible
Relax - Frankie Goes To Hollywood

And a million more. I just wish I could say to you all, come over bring your vinyl, we will have a party. I would love that.

PScope you are the best. Not only are my new family diamond daft, we have the same taste in music. PRICELESS!!!!!!!!!!

Shame on me. I didn''t mention two of my favourites from my home city, Glasgow.

Simple Minds - I Travel
Blue Nile -Tinsel Town in the Rain.

The latter is the song I truly believe I will hear when St Peter meets me at the Pearly gates and he will say "Hey Susimoo, this one is for you, ya wee cheeky weggie!!"

( Weggie = Glasgwegian)
