#TBT My ~.58ct OEC in a victorian rose cut diamond halo :)

Wow, that setting is so beautiful and unique...love those OEC's...great find!

Thanks all!!! I'm super excited, but I'm finding the halo may not be for me :? - the diamond, however :Up_to_something:

It's very feminine and beautiful.

is it bad that i'm lurking for another setting for the diamond? I'm so torn!

That halo is so delicate and beautiful! You're so lucky! And that OEC looks great!

I think that setting totally 'makes' the ring! (not that the diamond is not gorgeous... didn't mean that!!) but if it is not for you in the combination, would you consider putting a coloured stone in there? It is a beautiful vintage setting - very detailed and lovely to admire!

I've been debating on that topic.since I got it. Maybe a sapphire, or a pale pink spinel? I dunno. I think I'm going to put it away for awhile and just sit on it after a good cleaning. It still had some deep down grime in there.

Oh, it is such a pretty combination that if you don't love it, I would sell the whole ring as it is! It is simple to buy another loose diamond. But I'll tell you, it costs FAR more to buy a diamond and a separate setting, so I would just try to find another antique ring that you like more! I really understand taking diamonds out of ugly or damaged settings, but that one is so pretty as it is!

that's really what i'm torn with. After a lengthy discussion i'm going to:
1. clean it like crazy
2. put it away
3. pull it out in a couple weeks and re-evaluate.

i love love love the diamond, the setting would be awesome to stack (it sits high enough that if i bought a couple more size 7 rings it would look awesome on my right middle finger), and maybe after an amazing cleaning the halo with rose cut diamonds would sparkly even more than it does now?

fingers crossed!

When I first saw it, I thought "sweet", like I think of delicate forest things like ferns and fawns and rays of sunlight through the trees...it is really really intricate and a testament to what those early metal artisans could do once torches and saws gave them the freedom to create such complex tiny metal pieces. I would leave that beauty as is--as a testament to artists past. You can always add more jewelry to your collection :Up_to_something: That's just your delicate little fairy ring-which looks great on you by the way!

Polishing it up is a good idea, but remember, it was meant to sparkle in candlelight best. Just ask Jennifer Aniston how much her Rose cut sparkles...

I've recently been given more advice re cleaning. Does anyone have experience with steamers and old rings? I'm thinking about purchasing a steam cleaner and zapping those babies up.

In reference to your candle-light comment - AMAZING thing to realize! It's beautiful in candle-light, sparkles way more than I thought it would! Thanks for the tip :)

Gorgeous ring. Congratulations.

This is one of my favorite rings!!! So delicate and pretty. Are you wanting to keep it in its setting or still thinking of a change?

Congrats, it is a very unique setting

So, when makingthegrade posted one of her stackers up, I couldn't pass it by - it's such a unique piece with so many elements I love. Unfortunately, I'm not at the point where I can own so much sparkly and survive. I'm planning on getting her band, wearing the two of them and taking TONS of pictures :Up_to_something: , and then picking one to pass on to (hopefully) another PSer. I need to pay for my boards and in the midst of planning a wedding... something has to go.

I've been debating on putting feelers out there, but I think it's still premature seeing as I don't know if I'm going to keep this one or the band. I'll keep you all posted!

Let me know if you decide to let it go ! :) It's gorgeous!

I hope you're able to decide which one you love more! I can't wait to see pictures of them side by side!

The craftsmanship on this is so gorgeous!

It's really unique, congrats!

Stunning.

It's so beautiful. It's such an amazing vintage setting, and it fits perfectly with the stone! I definitely vote for leaving them together, but whatever makes you happy is the way to go :)

The backplate? Whatever the name for the thing below the prongs...reflects and makes your OEC look HUGE!!

That is sooo pretty! :praise:

Can we see more photos with your diamond band?

I don't think I'll be able to split the setting, you're all right.

Begonia, here are more with the band, I plan on making another thread for it one of these days :)
