My cat is sick, and I'm a mess

Hi Everyone,

She’s gone. It’s soooooo hard. It was particularly poignant the last day and a half, bc at first she was hiding but then she got in our bed and stayed there the entire rest of the time. She didn’t eat, drink or go to the bathroom. It was evident she was feeling so bad, but she moved up so she was touching me whenever I was in bed.



She was such an affectionate cat, always wanting to be on a lap, very vocal, very social etc and so for me this is tougher than with Ruby who was more aloof. Her absence is SO palpable. I’m going to miss her terribly. Thank you all for your kindness and support. Some more photos. My son is seven now so even in the pics with him as a baby she was still a “senior” but never looked it.

I’m so sorry to read this @Mreader, I didn’t want to post before because a similar thing happened with one of my boys. It’s only natural to feel bad, but you did everything you could, and most importantly, you gave Sugar the best life possible.

I agree with Kim, words are inadequate. I am so so sorry for your loss. I've been there(dog) and have a senior cat now with health issues. Clearly, Sugar was dearly loved throughout her life and was lucky to have you!

I know it’s a cliched thing to say but I think the ones we love never truly leave us. Once the numbness fades and the pain ebbs - I know that you’ll feel her in your life. A twenty year love doesn’t disappear with the loss of a body. It won’t be the same as having touchable fur and audible purrs, but I know that she’ll still be *there* to comfort you.

I'm so very sorry she's gone. Making it to 20 is exceptional and she had a long life, well lived, with humans that clearly adored her. It doesn't make it easier, but you gave her a wonderful life and she had a very long run because of you and your family. It sounds like she also knew it was time to say goodbye at the end and I'm glad you had the extra day to do that with her, rather than having to make a rushed decision at an appointment.
