Hi!!! I'm back from the long hiatus of getting married AND graduating from University a second time! I finally have free time again. Now I can indulge in my gem collection once again!

Orange is my favorite color, so I have more than a hand full of orange gems. Most of them are smallish spessartites. But I have been dreaming of a big, bright, cushion orange spess for years. I finally came upon one early this year at a gem show (from a vendor I trust). The photos do not do it justice! In person, it has no brown modifier. To me, its just orange deliciousness! :lickout:

I plan to put it in either a halo with marquise or pear shaped diamonds. I think it can hold its own against them! But first, I'll send her off to AGL for a prestige report. Even if it turns out not to be from Namibia, I don't mind. Its the color that kills me!

According to the vendor the stats are:
13.05mm x 10.47mm
Namibia, untreated
9.7 carats
Finger size 6.25

Here a few shots! I'll add a few more later as 4 is the max. :D It was rainy here today, but I managed to get a few shots under a dry tree. Enjoy!!

That's one stunning spess!

The ring in your avatar is TDF, too!

That looks as orange as they come and that is a big one! It looks great against your skin.

HI:

Holy lust Batman!!!!

cheers--Sharon

Indeed TOP color!

Gorgeous!!! Can't wait to see it set!!

I'm back to say that I have "a handful of orange gems" in my head, conjuring up such a great image.

Amazing spess, the size and colour!

It is GORGEOUS (and huge)! Of course it would need to be, given your showstopper of an engagement ring. :lickout:

depth gives the intense color.....and it looks great on your finger.
have you thought of an east/west orientation?

OMG - the stone is nuts!

Wooow. That is something!

Holy smokes, what a fireball! I love it!!!!

You really rock that spessartite; it's gorgeous and it suits your skin tone perfectly.

That is gorgeous!!! I covet it :Up_to_something: Would you mind sharing where it was purchased?

Oh my gosh! It is amazing and really looks good on you. I am so eager to see it set! :appl:

What metal do you plan on setting it in? Also, congratulations on a stunning gemstone! Love the Mandarin orange!

Thank you for all the compliments!! It's so nice to be able to share with others who love gems with color. In real life my friends and family are like, "what's the big deal? It's not a diamond." In fact the first thing alot of people said about my engagement ring was about how nice all the diamonds were, why would we put a sapphire in such an fancy setting? I just smiled!

I think I have 15 or so orange gems. Spess, citrine, hessonite, sphalerite and fire opal - about half cabochons and half faceted. Will take a group shot to post here someday! Am I missing any? What other gems are orange? Coral?

I might like the way the spess looks set east to west! Never thought about setting it that way. I'm thinking rose gold for the setting. If I set it east west then a halo would be too much as it might be more than 100% finger coverage. I'll have to think about it more, now I'm not so sure.

orange sapphire, orange FCDs, carnelian, natural zircon, and one of my favorites orange sun stone! Just naming a few, many gems come in an orange color but spess and fire opal are renowned for their orange!

That is one fiiiiine looking spess! I love it! Everything about it. Size! Shape! Color! Saturation! Tone! Yup, everything!
