Here is a photo of it sitting in the gem box lid to show you how transparent it is. I can''t really capture the transparency while it is on my hand since the green body color just sucks all the light in.

One more bad photo with some yellow diamonds to see how it would look with them.

I wouldn''t use these diamonds, but better matching ones.

TLemeraldandyellow.JPG

One more from further away. I realize it looks almost black and extinct here, but the green is just so intense under my kitchen halogens that it just messes with my digital sensor. The edges of the stone actually glow blue green. It''s really fascinating to look at.

TL Good news about your lovely emerald. They had never appealed much to me until I read Ron Ringsrud''s book "A Passionate Guide" and now I do have an appreciation for them although I don''t get to see very many in person.

Thanks Klewis, and I just bought that book. This is my third book on strictly emeralds now.

That is one heck of an emerald! Amazing color, to me emeralds have to have some blue in them. Otherwise a tourmaline can do clarity in green better. It deserves to be set and worn!

Oh I''m getting some emerald envy over here. I''m so glad you have peace of mind and can take it out of that box and enjoy it! I also agree with your sentiment that those who don''t like emeralds probably haven''t seen a very fine one. My original engagement ring (which got lost) had a half carat emerald cut emerald cut stone. It was deep color, probably a little on the dark side, but it was clear and the green color was so beautiful it looked like it had a light glowing in it. Can you tell I still miss my emerald ring? But to find a replacement I am put off by how most emeralds look or their price and/or both.

Thanks Kelpie. I prefer emeralds with blue in them, in fact I prefer blue in any green stone I decide to own, no matter the species.

Thanks Part Gypsy,
I''m sorry you lost your e-ring, that must have been disheartening. I do realize that emeralds are not for everyone and that other people do enjoy other green stones better. For me, emerald has been my one dear love ever since I was a child (I was a strange kid I admit - LOL!!).

I put it in an old CZ 14K YG setting I had. These are NOT real diamonds. I had this setting forever, and just realized it would fit my emerald, so I plucked out the center stone (a fake emerald) and plopped the real emerald in there. I would not use this setting for the stone, but just to gage it surrounded by diamonds in yellow gold.

Dim incandescent lighting.

Although it''s very hard to describe the color, in most lighting, it looks like this color. It goes brighter in other lighting.

TL - What is this picture of, I''ve been trying to figure it out? It looks like some exotic mushroom.

Haha! I know, right? Less food = less weight gain. I literally wait until my purses have holes inside until I buy a new one. Oops, was that TMI?

It's emerald colored glitter glass.

So do people like the emerald in yellow gold, and surrounded by yellow diamonds?????

Because you prefer the more blueish green emeralds, correct me if I''m wrong, and with that in mind I''m trying to imagine if yellow diamonds would enhance the blueishness of the emerald or detract from it?

I personally think the yellow gold, especially 18K will add a buttery richness to the green color of the emerald. And the yellow diamond sides will be a nice contrast with the blue tone of the center stone. It will be stunning. But not everyone may like those color combinations, so go with what you love.

Very pretty emerald.

Thanks RH, LovingGems, Marcy.

PR,
I think you''re probably right, the stone doesn''t lose any "blueness" in the yellow gold. I''m not so sure about yellow side diamonds though, maybe white ones???

White ones would be lovely as well, but you know me. I''m a sucker for color!

Okay, I just got the Ronald Ringsun book in the mail today and it inspired me to try and take more photos of my emerald. I love it so much more now after gazing over the photos in the book.

If you love emeralds, or green gems, GET THIS BOOK!!

Here''s my emerald in the best photo I think I''ve taken so far. You can see into it and the facets. I know it looks black in this picture, but if you saw it IRL, it''s a very intense green with a touch of blue.

TLbestemeraldpicyet.JPG

Here is another emerald I bought from the same dealer around 12 years ago, and it's a very nice stone, and pretty clean too, but the color isn't as saturated as the one above. I would call this a medium green though. It's a beautiful stone and the picture just doesn't do it justice. I'm guessing it's around 1.2 carats. It looks fantastic in my fakey diamond (CZ) halo. I shined more light into this stone in the photo in order to show you the step facets better.
