I don''t think I''ve ever seen tsavorite garnets in person. Is their appearance different from emeralds?

They are much less included than emeralds - mine is pretty much loupe clean - and they are harder and very sparkly in a way that emeralds are not.

Lots of people think mine is an emerald - even in jewellery stores, but they are quite a different colour. I think they match the green of a budweiser beer bottle rather well. It''s a more yellow green than emerald which is a more bluey green. They do look different side by side. They also have more contrast - mine shows black areas, bright green areas and neon green sparkles all at the same time, which move as you move the stone. Emeralds tend to be more uniform in colour.

My FI when he saw some top emeralds in Harry Winston yesterday said he much preferred tsavorites - for me they are different and I like both in different ways.

I seem to remember Sarah''s FMIL saying she didn''t get why anyone would buy an emerald when they could have a tsav.
