My fiance proposed to be on Christmas Eve 2012. He picked out a ring from a shop in our local mall and though it was beautiful, the inclusions worried me. After a terrible experience at the mall store we decided to return the (overpriced) ring and do some research to pick out the best diamond for our budget and a band that I'd love forever.

Long story short, I wouldn't have such a beautiful and amazing ring on my finger without Pricescope. I received so much help with finding both the diamond and my dream ring. I really appreciate the patience shown while answering my dozens of questions and calming all my worries! I was able to get what I wanted and stay within my $6k budget easily.

Diamond from James Allen:
1.0 carat round, 6.43x6.40mm
I colour
Medium blue fluorescence
SI1 clarity, eye clean
Very good cut, excellent polish, very good symmetry

Ring from IDJ:
Gabriel and Co victorian ring in platinum http://www.gabrielny.com/engaged/style/ER5651W44JJ
Size 5.25

It's very cloudy today and I can't seem to get my cheapie camera to cooperate. Most of the pictures turned out blurry. :( I will try to take better ones later...

Also I bought a cheap loupe online which included a UV light. I specifically wanted this to see the fluorescence in my diamond and it looks very cool! There's a few fluorescent diamonds in my band too. :)

This is medium blue fluorescence.

Also how accurate/useful are appraisals? The local jeweler who set my diamond included an appraisal since we had to wait longer than expected. I bought both the loose diamond and band online and the jeweler had no idea how much I paid for either.

The appraiser listed my diamond as H instead of I colour, 1.02 carats instead of 1.00, and excellent cut instead of very good. The appraiser didn't have access to the GIA cert so he was looking at it blind.

Also the total overall appraisal is almost 4x higher than our total cost for the ring. Where do the appraisers get these numbers from??

Really pretty ring (and hands!) The replacement cost is obviously what you just paid for the ring + inflation over time. Wondering if your getting the matching wedding band - all so so pretty!

OK I switched my camera to close-up mode and took a couple pictures which turned out a little better :) Though I'm not sure why the first photo shows weird speckles in the diamond. It doesn't have inclusions like that. I think I have a long way to go before I am able to take those gorgeous ring photos so many people post on these boards :)

Also I couldn't find a wedding band to match exactly but I am considering just doing a scalloped band with the "eye" shapes from my engagement ring so it's a bit different and doesn't match completely :)

Thank you!! :)

I finally got my camera working! I don't see a way to delete the old photos unfortunately. If that can be done then please let me know.

Here's the new pics :)

OK now I'll stop spamming in here. :)

Thanks everyone for the lovely comments! I'm so excited I just can't contain it!!

Congratulations - love your ring. It is really pretty with interesting band. Like your idea of a similar WB. Enjoy looking down at your hand.

Congratulations!!!! Beautiful ring!!!

I love your ring!! It's delicate and Victorian and gorgeous. The Gabriel link you posted shows the matching band if that interests you.

Beautiful ring!!! :appl: I am also glad you were able to return the first one and start over!

Just do not use that inflated appraisal for insurance or you will drastically overpay for your premiums. If you needed the appraisal for that reason, take the sales receipts to the appraiser and tell them you do not want an inflated appraisal which would make you overpay for insurance and ask if they will redo the value for closer to the retail price that you paid.

Your ring is pretty and shining. I like it. Glad that you get your engagement ring.

Oh. I. Love. It!!! It's just beautiful :appl: :appl: :appl: :appl:
